Reggie Kelly Done

According to Geoff Hobson of bengals.com, Reggie Kelly has suffered an Achilles tendon rupture and will be under the knife Wednesday when the doctors will confirm that he will be out the rest of the season. Kelly is 32, if he misses this season chances are his career is over, leaving us one crayon short of a pack. Four days into training camp and Reggie Kelly is gone, I really hope this is just a bad dream. Daniel Coats will not replace Kelly in the least and we all know what will happen if we send Utecht in to block. (if you do not know, his birdchest will snap) Coffman is basically a WR that played the TE spot in college, so unless he learns how to block soon, we may be fishing for TE's come cut day.

this makes the fullback position even more important

Kelly played FB on 3rd down situations b/c Coates was so bad at blocking.

I hope Jeremy Johnson is healthy.

minor problem

Fui Vakapuna will be the big blocker on third down for the Bengals. Jeremi Johnson is a fat, lazy joke.

The Kelly injury just opens the door for the Bengals to use the tight end the same way most other teams do… actually throw to him on pass plays and expect it to be caught. Crazy, huh?

Yeah, he’s a great blocker, but I’m not too worried about this. Coffman is the future.

All indications are

Johnson is looking to be back to form. If he is back to top form, I will definitely take him. Though I do hope Fui makes the team, I think he would be more of a running threat than Johnson.

It's still a good season if we go 2-14 and beat the Steelers twice.

name the teams with good catching tight ends

and i promise you those tight ends can block just as well.

exactly… it’s possible to be good at both and I think Coffman will be fine. He’ll develop into a solid TE.

there is no proof of this as of yet

he recorded the most receptions by a TE in NCAA history for a reason……he was running a route almost every play

good call

that’s one of the first names to comes to mind when you talk about Bengals Pass-Pro. What about Brian Leonard, though? Is he not shaking out to be the blocker we thought we had traded for?

3 yards and a pile of dust

Yea saw that.

At least it does not sounds serious. It is getting me thinking what free agents (other than Bubba Franks) are out there at TE.

It's still a good season if we go 2-14 and beat the Steelers twice.

Those are the signed/unsigned TE’s available, I am unsure how up to date the list is because I do not see a last updated date… but thats something.

Found a list

but thank you. Got excited for a sec because I saw Tony Stewart’s name on their but realized he re-signed with Oakland.

It's still a good season if we go 2-14 and beat the Steelers twice.
