Whats the Hold up with Andre Smith?
Lets Get him in camp
Dont know if its just me,but Im getting a little jumpy now about the lack of movement here.I know top 10 picks usualy get their contracts on a sliding scale but the top tackle drafted has signed his deal with the Rams,Sanchez who was picked before Andre has signed and DHB who was drafted straight after also has his deal,Surely we are down to a ball park figure in the middle of those two,and we are doing a bit of give and take, shouldnt take as long to get done.
Protection was a massive issue last year and Andre is a massive part of the solution, the longer it takes to get him in camp the worse it is....I do have confidence in Anthony Collins(in all honesty we should have him and Andre at Tackle and have kept Whit at Guard imo)but come on front office get this thing done.

There are players ...
that have knacks for making good decisions. Dough Boy isn’t one of them. Wouldn’t be surprised if he wants No. 1 pick money. It’s very doubtful Smith gets into camp before the season starts, and doubtful he’s a factor at all this year.

The deal
They are arguing over if he is able to get a box of twinkies during snack milk morning break during practice or will they be little debbies. Andre draws the line at anything from sunbelt or other dolla store snack cakes.

It seems the problem stems from more than the #5 and #7 pick. For starters, Kirk opined that the Bengals might want to see Aaron Curry’s deal to reduce their ceiling.
Going from there, Curry’s agent will likely wait to see what Tyson Jackson gets, and vice versa…just like the Rivers and Harvey standstill.
Speaking of the Jags, they have a serviceable LT, and can afford to wait on Eugene Monroe. Also, they’re not a team that gives in to this rookie contract nonsense (see Derrick Harvey). The worse part about Eugene Monroe, is that his agent is probably waiting to see two contracts: Andre Smith’s and Michael Crabtree’s.
Crabtree is a diva that believes he ‘should have been drafted earlier’, therefore his agent is trying to blow up San Fran’s pocket book on that deal.
If in fact Crabtree’s agent can hammer out a better deal than DHB’s, and Eugene Monroe has nothing but time, then why would Andre Smith’s agent hurry up and get a deal done that ends up paying less than Crabtree’s or Monroe’s? He won’t.
All of the above notwithstanding, with the NFL discussing 17 or 18 game seasons, and no clues as to capped or uncapped years forthcoming, these agents are trying to break the bank. The 2009 Draft might be the last year these agents can pull off these blockbuster Top 10 contracts given Roger Goodell’s mumblings of a Rookie slotting system. What do the agents have to lose? They’re not playing, they don’t care what the fans think of them, they don’t care if their client misses an entire training camp. No agent wants to negotiate a lower paying deal for a higher draft pick, they’ll look like a fool and be less marketable to the players. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again………..F*** Agents!

I'm pretty sure it's the twinkies
Sorry, what you just said makes too much sense. I’m going with UpState’s analysis. He wants Little Debbie snacks at halftime, and the Bengals are afraid that this will break the bank, given the rate that he consumes food at.

collins
im comfortable with him in there as our RT, especially now that RG is done for the season.
Smith will sign eventually, but I don’t see him as our starter at RT against the Broncos.
I just hope he is staying in shape

Round
doesn’t begin to describe it. I would go with rapidly expanding Amorphous black hole.

I want a man his size on the O-line..
I understand hes fat, I get it. But he is a lineman, if he looked like Chris Henry we’d all be ragging on him for being a scrawny little woman. As long as he can push people out of Bensons way, stay healthy, and make good decisions to stay on the field, I wouldnt care if he grew those man tits into double-D’s..

Me too.
He don’t have to be svelt.
I’ll bet his crackberry already has every rib joint in town marked by the quality of the food and closeness to the stadium, the practice field and his crib.
He needs to balance it all though. Eat, practice, workout. Anyone seen Fridge Perry lately?

It would have been nice to have seen Andre in camp while I was there
but, the line looked adequate w/o him.
If Jelly-Belly Smith is holding out so he doesn’t have to eat camp food, there is a DQ in G’town that he can visit.
Anyway, I got Anthony Collin’s autograph while I was there….so I guess i should root for Collins now instead of Mr. Holdout :-)

I already have been. I more or less “knew” they were going to draft him anyway but I really didn’t want them to. I got resigned to it afterwards but have once again decided I’d rather they’d drafted a punter there than him. Well maybe that’s a slight overstatement… :)

I was hoping for E Monroe when he fell to us
But what’s done is done, so hopefully Andre Smith eventually proves to be the right choice.
