Second Half Open Thread: Denver Broncos @ Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals first half played out as well as one could hope for, with one glaring issue; the Bengals inability to finish drives and score. Offensively, the Bengals recorded eight first downs and 185 yards total. Carson Palmer has completed nine passes for 132 yards; a nasty blemish is the interception off a deflection by Champ Bailey. The defense forced five first-half punts and four-straight three-and-outs. Cedric Benson leads the team with 81 yards total.
Palmer - 9/15 for 132 yards, interception
Orton - 7/14 for 58 yards
Cedric - 15 rushes, 55 yards
Buckhalter - 5 rushes, 35 yards
Moreno - 3 rushes, 6 yards
Ochocinco - 2 receptions, 56 yards
Benson - 2 receptions, 26 yards
Gaffney - 3 receptions, 25 yards
Team Stats
First Downs: Bengals 8, Broncos 4
Total Yards: Bengals 185, Broncos 91
Third Downs: Bengals 4/10, Broncos 1/6
Time of Possession: Bengals 19:47, Broncos 10:13

Cheating on the Broncos.
I think the NFL should give the punting team an option of taking blocks in the back from the original line of scrimmage. That would enable some first downs and cut down on these calls that plague special teams.

Because he knew a lucky bastard of an outdated player
would be there waiting. I’m glad we can be oh, so holy on bang-bang plays.
2 should-be picks, and Denver gets the TD
what the fuck is this bullshit? I don’t understand… Incomprehensible
Five seconds.
From the 25.

Wow. Unbelievable. Only things like that happen to the bengals.
Winner of All Movie Quote Challenges

I already did.
Can anyone explain how time was re-added as a result of our supposed under 2:00 min maerk challenge???
I will apologize later for what I'm about to say now, because it's only anger talking..
But I hope the Broncos plane crashes on the way home.
Not really, but I’m glad I got that out of my system…
You know what will piss me off really bad?
If Jonathan Joseph actually came down with his feet in bounds.
dude, we just lost to a mediocre team...
and we get to play at least 4 more games against ridiculously good teams that happen to be on our division. Things are not looking so good.
by pedro_oliveira on Sep 13, 2009 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions
but why
did our player tip the ball inbounds? Shouldn’t you tip the ball towards the sideline since, you know, you are on the freaking sideline… seriously dumb play.
And you are being dumb...
He tried to make a damn play on the ball that, nine times out of ten, we would be praising him for. Stockley got lucky just Franco Harris’ ass.
He was fully outstretched as it was.
I don’t think he could have done anything else.
"If it wasn't this, it'd be something else."
then he should have let it go...
even if the guy behind him catches the ball there are at least 2 other defenders to tackle him..
he tipped the ball over alll of our defenders..

yeah righ
you don’t believe that, do you?

You can't blame the defense for that, you guys are insane.
They made a play on the ball, and Stokley got lucky.
You NEVER let a ball go as a defensive back if you can make a play on it. There probably should have been someone deep, but that’s fucking luck and that’s all you can say about it.
he had two choices..
he could’ve tipped the ball towards the middle of the field like he did, risking a play like the one that happened, or he could have let it go and just make a play on the receiver afterwards..
Maybe he didn’t make the right choice.
by pedro_oliveira on Sep 13, 2009 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions
You've never played football, have you?
He tried to knock the ball down. He didn’t know who was behind him or who was running up the field, he found the ball like a good defensive back should. He didn’t manage to get high enough or knock it down, and it bounced up off his hand instead.
There should have been a safety back, no doubt, but you cannot blame Hall.
I don't think he made the wrong choice
If he lets it go, marshall makes the catch, gets tackled out of bounds and the clock stops with 20 something seconds left on the 40. 1 more play and the broncos have a kicker that easily puts it in from 50.
Not only that,
but the only choice Leon Hall can make in that situation is to play the ball. That’s textbook.
If the offense had played like it should have all game...
the Bengals would have been up by three TDs – not even including the Sheffler fumble that was Ed Hochuli-ed. This is what happens when the Bengals leave a crap team in the game – lightning can strike, and it normally strikes the Bengals.

I know this means nothing to most of you guys...
But I am also a South Carolina fan. Their last second loss last night, coupled with today’s frigging tragedy, well let’s just say this has been one fucking shitty weekend.
well
Problem is, the matter of the fact is the Bengals had to play D for 38 seconds against a team led by Kyle Orton, and they couldn’t. I wouldn’t be praising the D either.
by pedro_oliveira on Sep 13, 2009 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions
it might be the anger talking
but you have to agree it comes down to this
they had to play D for 38 seconds and they couldn’t, against Kyle Orton…
by pedro_oliveira on Sep 13, 2009 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions
They played great defense for two plays.
Two balls were nearly picked off, and the ball bounced the Broncos way. The only mistake on that play was that a safety didn’t stay with Stoke.
Either it is the anger talking or you’ve got your head up your ass. Hall made a good play, it was an absolute freak occurrence. The Bengals defense played MUCH better than I expected, especially against the run. I’d like to see more pressure on the quarterback, but all in all they played very well against a very solid offensive line. The letdown was from the offense. The line played pretty well, but as long as they keep wasting time feeding Benson the ball as if he were an effective runner they’re going to struggle to score points. A guy that gets multiple house-sized holes to run through untouched for 10+ yards and still can’t manage 4.0 per carry is NOT an NFL-caliber starting RB.
The defense played well and the offense came through in the end.
I actually think the Bengals will be around .500 this year.
I hope Leon Hall does not hesitate to do the same thing again...

Not a single orton interception.
Palmer had 2.
Pro bowler????
just sayin……………
Bringing Bronco love from 1,112 miles away
neither of those are really his fault. the one OC should have knocked down and the other was on the last hail mary throw. 75% of the time those are intercepted.
Wrong. You don't throw to champ bailey. Either he'll pick it off, or he'll tip it to someone who will.
There wasn’t much Ocho could have done.

did you watch the game?
after it’s tipped the ball is considered loose. Ocho could have drilled the guy who was going to catch it, he could have jumped for it, he could have knocked it down. instead he backed away at the last second and let the guy catch it.
he had a hell of a game, but that’s still a mistake.
true, but he didnt. he went for the catch and woodyard beat him to it.
either way, great play by champ.

Hall's Fault...
It’s Leon’s fault for not stopping in the middle of that play and thinking “I might jump up and tip this ball away from the receiver but what if when I tip it some other guy runs up and catches it and runs it in for a touchdown. As crazy as that sounds, I better be safe and just let the receiver behind me catch the ball and not tip it.”
Pure sarcasm
He made a play on the ball, and a great play at that. He should always try to make that play. Always.
Marvin Lewis’ Bengals are not a big fan of common sense.
by pedro_oliveira on Sep 13, 2009 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions
That doesn't make sense
A FG still wins the game for the Broncos.

Even if there's a single guy way deep
Preventing the touchdown means nothing if they get the deep pass anyway and don’t score the TD.

Coach lewis made just as bad a call
He calls a TO when the ball is inches from the goaline to see if its a TD… You have all three TOs RUN THE FCKN CLOCK!!!12 secs instead of 21
Yeah, that's not it at all. It was 4 down territory for you guys anyways.
