I don't like to give Bratkowski credit but the offense looked rejuvenated and composed. Brat's playcalling in the red zone was perfect this week which is a relief. The run selection was also much improved. Most runs were stretched behind the tackles which allowed Benson to break it outside when the middle got stuffed (as it did all game last week). I'd still like to see the offense throw a bit more and be more creative, but boy does it feel good to see the offense help out this top 10 defense. Carson made two very poor throws directly to Woodson, but other than that, Carson stood in there and made some good throws under pressure. Caldwell and Chad seem to be the go to receivers (but have to wonder what it would be like if Coffman were ready to take the place of Coats who dropped a catchable touchdown although he did basically convert that 3rd and 34). All that aside, great effort from the offense.
The highlight is seeing the defense play this well. The tackles get enough pressure up the middle and the ends deceivingly get to the QB without too much blitzing. I know the defense has been dubbed "Blitzinnati" but I still don't see too many blitz packages. I would LOVE to see more. Rey Rey is a monster and Roy Williams brings the mean streak. Crocker is talented but not a nickel back (I'd like to see David Jones play that role). If it wasn't for the penalties and the interceptions, the defense would have pitched a shutout.
Bring on Pittsburgh, but clean up the penalties. I'm hopeful for a 2-1 start (although it should be 3-0 as most of you know).
