What To Do With Andre Smith?
Unless you've been in a cave these past couple of games you have noticed that our offensive line is very solid and has played exceptionally well in protecting Carson. With Andre Smith poised to return either this week or 2 what do we do? Do we take a risk in throwing him out there without playing in the preseason at the risk of Carson taking hit? What would be the best scenario to incorporate Andre into the O-Line without him stirring things up? He would definitely make the already beasty Cedric Benson even more of a beast, but will he struggle in protecting against the pass? I say if he's healthy we need to get him some experience in the Brown's game or any other weak opponent..but at the same time I'm a little worried about maintaining the chemistry.. I definitely wouldn't throw him in against Baltimore.. Anyone else have any suggestions of what we should do with Andre the Giant?

LG
put him at LG, or he can take Bobbie Willaims place at RG next season

Short yardage plays
I think he won’t start for quite a while, but that doesn’t mean you leave his hulking frame watching the entire game from the sidelines, either.
I think his biggest impact will be to push the line forward to give us needed first downs and goal line work could be invaluable.
As he gets more comfy to the team and gets more confident, then get him more involved as there is no reason he can’t be ready by the second half of the season where he may need to come in to replace someone hurt. Overall, he’s a great backup at this time though.

Dual tackles...
As they have been doing on the run, I think they should put him in when they are going heavy on one side (with Roland now) and stick him in the RT spot with Roland/Collins covering him. Mix in some passes from this formation to (1) confuse the defense since it has primarily been a run formation and (2) get some NFL film of how he protects the passer with limited risk.

Now that's a solid solution
It took my two years to come up with an avatar and sig
and this is the best I could come up with.

+1 Timzilla
What to do with Brad St. Louis, trade him to the Rams?
I think a good way to break him in slowly might be to just put him in on some running plays. Just get him up to NFL speed slowly so his other foot doesn’t break and work him into the playbook slowly. If he shows he can handle some run situations, begin trying his pass protect skills.
Or maybe throw him in as a run blocking TE.. he’s like a gazelle with DD’s…

Watching the 9ers and Vikings yesterday
and saw Loadholt (Andres teammate?) starting Rt.Tackle for Vikes. He is the real deal at Rt. Tackle. This just makes Bengals Smith pick more confounding than it already is. All I can say is thank god Rey fell to us.
I know I’m going to get flak for dissing Smith and a bantering from those that excuse the Bengals for the Smith pick (examples-the Bengals couldn’t trade down, the Bengals can’t control who he chooses as his agent, Andre was a stud in college etc..) but he is a dissapointment being a top ten pick so far. I hope he turns into an all pro-but he had agent issues before he was picked, he played Lt. tackle in college and the Bengals want to make a project out of him at Rt. tackle, and he was clearly out of shape before the combine, after the combine and during minicamp-leading to holdout issues over weight limits.
Saw a few former players; Madeau W. -didn’t look so good. Mark Roman-nickle or dime back looked great. Justin Smith-looked the same, plays the run well but can’t get to the Qb (except late).Takeo Spikes looked steady and very aggressive-he’s playing Mid. Linebacker.

Smiths contract stipulates that he has to come in under 350 lbs, or he loses half his paycheck per game. That’s going to go a long way. I think that Andre’s foot is going to thank the front office for that one.
But really, there’s no reason to panick on this guy yet. He’s going to get in the mix at some point and slowly work his way into the lineup, the way it should be for a rookie.
This is our year!

I'm not panicking
but until he starts playing and shows he is a top 10 draft pick- that picture just reminds digs at me.

Look at it from a different angle....
Not “what are we gonna do?” in a bad way, but “what are we gonna do?” in a good way.
I’m looking at a 2-1 team that’s 1-0 in the division, that’s sitting on Top 5 pick to help slug through the months of November and December. As posted above, when we’re able to steam roll a team with the run-game, you put him in at OT (either side) and let him do what he does best….roadgrading.
And if he isn’t to be trusted in pass-pro, then you rotate him out. The Bengals have essentially been doing this since Week 1 with their usage of 6 or 7 Olineman in various packages. Imagine them needing to convert a short yardage play and you can call on Andre the Giant instead of Dennis Roland…..Roland’s been great, but Andre gives you better chance, especially when teamed with Big Bobbie.
So to answer your question: What to do with Andre Smith? run it down the other teams throat

tummy tuck
Hey if he got a tummy tuck he could try out for baywatch. Hard to predict how this slob will be if he ever gets in shape. He looks like he ate his family.

I was just wondering about this yesterday
I think it’s tough to say, without seeing the dynamics between him and the rest of the team. I think the only way of finding out is to get him some playing time and see how it goes. I’m not opposed to sitting him, but I would definitely like to see some return on our expensive new purchase.

no hurry
I understand the guy is a #6 pick. But, at this juncture, we really don’t need him. If he’s healthy and in shape, (neither of which we know), let him roam the sidelines for awhile…..get a healthy dose of what this team’s trying (and mostly succeeding) to become. Put him in situations where the likelihood of failure is small. Get him a full camp next season and see how he shakes out (pun intended).

Everybody is already panicking and the guy hasn't played a single snap.
Reminds me of fans calling in on the radio after the Broncos game. All doom and despair. Season was already ruined. Sometimes fans just get too ancy about this and that. I think it’s way too early to call this pick a waste. Sure, he’s overweight. But the guy was NEVER on his back in college in a very tough SEC conference. He hasn’t played a single snap in the league so it’s too early to label him as anything but a disappointment right now- and that’s because of his injury. On the bright side, even if Andre is a bust we still had a great draft. Rey should’ve been a first rounder and he’s already a leader on the team that the guys in the locker room respect. He came back from injury yesterday and went back into the game. That’s HEART! Something our team has needed.

Too Bad Andre's not ready to play next week
Playing Cleveland would have been a great time to get him into the mix. I certainly wouldn’t want his first game to be against the Ravens, but who knows? We need to see this guy in action. I’m not worried about him though. He’s already a project in the works, what can you do?
by UpStateMike on Sep 29, 2009 8:20 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think he’s going to get in against the Ravens, unless our line collapses next week or somebody goes down.

I forget his name..
but some guy stepped in for Jim Rome last week on his radio show and had the funniest bit about how Andre tripped over his titties while trying to block and therefore broke his foot. Probably one of those ‘had to be there’ moments, but it was hilarious.

Andre's Option Contract...
has the Bengals deciding in 2010 whether to keep him for 4 or 6 years. They need to see what he can do THIS year to decide what to do NEXT year. Maybe after the break unless someone gets hurt first.

get his body fat under 25% would be a decent start..
