Mike Brown Not the Worst?

When Matt Millen got the axe in Detroit, I just assumed that Mike Brown would vault to the bottom of any ranking of NFL team personnel.  This is, after all, a guy who may give the disgraced former FEMA head a run for his money in the category of least competent Michael Brown.  However, along comes Yahoo Sports with a ranking of NFL owners that doesn't place Mike Brown dead last.

Star-divide

Instead, Al Davis gets that spot.  Arguably, Davis is being placed there primarily because it is intended to create controversy and make people think, as these sorts of lists are prone to do with picks in certain slots that defy expectations.

Still, you've got to love Michael Silver's description of Mike Brown:

It’s hard to put Brown’s philosophy in its proper context, but here’s a loaded attempt: He’s the 21st century’s answer to a Communist Party bigwig in the Soviet Union’s heyday – gaming a system steeped in shared revenues for his own benefit while setting new standards among his peers for brazen laziness.

Al Davis can put his feet up on a Lombardi Trophy. He may be a has been but MB is a never was.

Davis v. Brown

Davis can put three feet up on Lombardi Trophies.
That alone should get him a lifetime exemption from being last.
I voted Brown #32 dead last. It’s not even close.

Senile Al may have three trophies and may have even been a genius at one time, but these rankings are about NOW. What did you do for me lately baby? Jack Squat vs. Very Little => Very Little wins hands down.

I agree

Anytime someone tries to bring up Al Davis, I laugh. He might be a Looney Bird today…but Al Davis has not one…not two…but THREE Super Bowl Trophies.

Al Davis has forgotten more football than Mike Brown ever knew.

You may be right that Senile Al has forgotten more than Mike ever knew… but Senile Al is still worse. He’s a preview of Mikey’s future after a few more years kill off a few more brain cells if something doesn’t happen to change things. He is actually worse because he’s leading the way and Mikey’s just following in his footsteps.

You and I should Co-Host a Talk Show

…no matter the subject, we can both play devil’s advocate to one another.

I think you are right about Al leading the way for MB’s future behavior…and I understand the rankings are about now and not yesteryear…but facts are facts.

You always use some sort of “Spade” reference. Here’s one for you:

Super Bowl tropies are the ultimate trump card in ANY argument NFL related.

If you have 3 Lombardi’s…and I’ve not only never even sniffed one – but my overall winning percentage is in the .300’s – AND…yes, AND…I’ve NEVER won a playoff game, I don’t deserve to be even considered in your league.

Lost of people grow old and get senile. At least Al was a stud in his hay-day, right?

Heh that might be fun. Kinda. Dunno I’ve never tried.

Of course, I know that “officially” trophies are the “ultimate trump card”… but I think that people who use them that way are flat wrong. By those standards Big Ben is the best QB in the league right now. Um… yeah… pull the other one elf lord. His team may be (although frankly I don’t even agree with that) but he didn’t pick up a crappy team and carry it on his back. No the honor there goes to Kurt Warner far more than he. Or Drew Brees, whose defense couldn’t hold onto a 4th quarter lead if you super-glued it to their hands, yet somehow he still managed to save his team from a losing record. Or maybe Jay Cutler except even he couldn’t save his team when they needed it most. And I suppose Phillip Rivers deserves at least an honorable mention here. Of those four only Kurt has a ring, and I rank him number two of the bunch. So you can see just how much belief I have in this “trump card”. Absolutely zilch.

Tom and Peyton are still “officially” #1 and #2 but Drew is knocking on their door hard and Kurt’s not far behind. If either of them find a helpful defense this year they are going to make a strong case for top billing. And Rivers isn’t THAT far behind them. I leave Jay out only because now he’s going to a team with the softest schedule in the league so even if he pulls a Kurt there are going to be questions of whether he was the primary factor or whether the schedule was.

Whoa, whoa, whoa...

Now you’re talking about Quarterbacks….which has nothing to do with the conversation.

Does that mean you’re seeing eye to eye with me on Al vs. MB? (I doubt it)

First off…I’m not suggesting Al Davis is the best owner in the NFL. I’m merely suggesting that he could arguably be considered one of the best of his era. And for that, he doesn’t deserve to be considered in the same sentence as Mike Brown.

I know you and your trump cards by now!! …unfortunately, I don’t know all the rules of how trump cards are correctly played. I thought I just laid the Ace of Spades on you. Here to find out, I apprently just laid the deuce of hearts.

Bottom line: Al MIGHT (yes, only MIGHT) be worse than Mike Brown today. That though is debateable. Anyone could contest both sides. I think though that what isn’t contestable (and what is lost in this debate of ours), is that they are BOTH a clear cut #1 and #2 in the argument. You wanna argue who’s the # 1 or who’s # 2? …who cares? They both suck.

My point though was that at least Al was “Arguably” one of the best owners of his era. If someone was the best in the world at what they do…and this someone was the best in the world at it 3 times…gees, Friar-B, is that not worthy of least acknowledging they should be considered better than a guy that never was considered better than amongst the worst in the world EVERY year that he’s been competing at his trade?

That’s GOTTA BE a well played Trump card by yours truly? No??? ;-)

Now…if you wanna talk Quarterbacks…I really can’t shy away from a good debate…

Now…you’re stating that if we were using my theory that TurdLessBerger in Pittsburgh would be considered the best QB in the league…a statement that you know good and well that you and I both would emphatically disagree with.

Thus…using that theory, Tom Brady would be considered the best. He’s got 3 Lombardi’s to his credit. I think most would argue he is the best QB in the league. Him or Manning, anyways.

Now…on to TurdLessBerger…let me state that I agree with you how painful it is to give credit to anything Steeler related…BUT…even though the dude is a complete punk and we both wish he’d tear both his ACL’s, the guy has proven to be a stud when the stakes are high. (GAWWWWD, that pains me to say that). The guy makes big plays in big games and in big situations. You simply cannot argue with that. That’s not contestable.

For that, he NOW (since February) deserves to be considered amongst the best in the game today. I’m not going to say he’s better than Brady or Manning. But Brees, Rivers, Cutler, CarsonP? Oh yeah. Without a doubt. There’s an intangible quality that winners have. A trait that allows you to find another gear when you and your competition are tired and have nothing else to give. Unfortunately for us and all his peers, TurdLessBerger has that trait. That trait aloneis far better han a big arm like Cutler’s, or 5,000 yds passing like Brees…or a loud and obnoxious attitude like Rivers.

Sorry, nope, no trump card here. It wasn’t the deuce of hearts tho. It was the cookie sitting beside the table that you threw down instead. It looks nice, it’s got lots of nice chocolate chunks (or whatever your favorite cookie decoration is) and it looks really edible and tasty. And in a card game I’m looking at you and going, what good does this do? :)

Actually, what really happened is you didn’t realize that we’re playing not playing spades at all. We’re playing bridge and the contract is in no-trump. :)

As for changing topics to quarterbacks, perhaps I should have said “for example” first. I wasn’t trying to CHANGE topics or anything, just use that as an example of the way I think. And I’ll play bridge in just about any trump suit necessary but when it comes to real life I’m pretty much a no-trump feller straight up and down the line with very few exceptions.

Assuming you weren’t just blowing smoke, then we really should look into having one of those debate podcasts or something. Even if we both want to strangle each other by the end of it it would probably still be fun to try out. Because I bet we could make a pretty good debate out of it that would be at least sorta entertaining for folks to listen to. And just in case you are interested I’ll save my rebuttals for the moment…

agree with toastincock

Mike Brown is the worst. MB has the worst winning percentage in all professional sports. NFL, NBA, MLB, (even the Pitt pirates, that’s really pathetic) NHL, & MLS. That is horrible to have that type of record. Look it up. The measure of success is decided by how many wins you have, not how much money you can swindle out of the people that support you. But MB doesn’t realize this, because if he did he would have a Lombardi trophy. NO WAIT!!! A PLAYOFF WIN !!! He is obviously doing something wrong. For 18 no 19 years not to mention the couple of years that MB was controlling the team before PB died, MB has totally screwed things up. For Al Davis, he has won and made money. If you think Al Davis is the worst now, then your really lost !!!!

Mike Brown Stupid???

Mike Browm is a business man and is treating the Benagals team as such, and doing so very successfully. I dont think he could be considered “stupid” in any form, with proof of manipulating a major metropolis and the people here, into financing his place of business, producing a below grade product, and still the consumers buy product he produces. Wish I could become as rich as he is by screwing the consumer.
