Browns name Derek Anderson as the starting quarterback against the Bengals
Browns starting (former) Quarterback Brady Quinn played for ten quarters, completed 45 of 74 passes for 400 yards passing, a touchdown and three interceptions (pass rating of 62.9). Quinn was tasked with playing three tough defenses in the NFL; Minnesota (4th overall defense), Denver (1st overall defense) and Baltimore (7th overall defense). The excuse didn't save him.
Dawgs by Nature writes that the Cleveland Browns have named Derek Anderson the starting quarterback against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend. I do appreciate that SB Nation takes the same view that we take. We should be 3-0. But whatever.
As we wrote in the Primer, Anderson is 2-1 when starting against the Cincinnati Bengals with a passer rating of 82.9.

Anderson
I think it’s a bad move by Mangini. He could’ve forced us to watch tape of both Anderson and Quinn throwing interceptions all week.
Bruce Bonser? Boone Bonser? Boot Bonser? BOOSE BONZER?

thanks Kirk,
despite Anderson’s 2-1 record, the Bengals have never had a Front 7 this good in quite a while. and if i’m not mistaken, the rightside of the Browns OLine has been shaky thus far. Hopefully Jumpy Geathers and Michael Johnson can have some success off the edges.
3 yards and a pile of dust

just sit back and watch the Mangenius at work.
seriously though, this is stupid and i can’t imagine any Browns fan being happy about this.
on the flip side, i can’t wait to face Anderson. he’s going to throw like eleven picks.

He’s no doubt hoping that Anderson can reignite the “magic” of 2007. But unless he can find a receiver who can actually catch the ball on occasion AND he finds an OL that gives him more than half a second to throw, then all he’ll recapture is a face full of dirt.

I'll take the under
Because Joe Thomas is a beast. But geathers might get 12.

re-watching the steelers game i noticed Geathers beat out a triple team block on a play! Sadly he didn’t finish it off with a rib-busting sack (he wiffed in his tackle) but hopefully he gets a bucket load of sacks forcing teams to struggle to game plan for both of our DEs

regarding your bet, is that the same Joe Thomas who got beat early and often by Elvis “sing us a song” Dummervil?

dumervil got those sacks against the other tackle.
you're all posers. i hated bratkowski before it was cool.

hard to look past a divisional game
not to mention, the bengals are only a few games better than the brownies 2.0 in the win/lose record since 1999.
on paper this game seems like a laugh-er, in reality, its a little early to take any team as a freebie
by palewook on Sep 30, 2009 1:11 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
True. And if a single member of the 53 man roster is taking it as a freebie they should be cut immediately.
But as fans, there’s a slightly more lenient standard.

I just hope...
…we kick Anderson in his horseballs.

Bottom Line
The Bengals win this game if there truly has been an attitude change at PBS, not matter who the Browns’ QB is.

Mangini unwisely tips his hand
Is it Christmas already? Spares us the utter chaos and anxiety seen in Minnesota during the week leading up to their matchup with Cleveland. I mean, Mangini threw that organization into an absolute state of bedlam, yet for Cincy he announces it’s going to be DA well ahead of time. I don’t get it…but I’m thanking our lucky stars we have time to prepare for the hurricane.

Remember Anderson’s first win against the Bengals ? The Bengals were favored by a sizeable margin. They came in thinking it was an easy win.Anderson started hitting his recievers. You could see the confidence rise.End result, the Browns won. I hope the Bengals take the Browns seriously. This is their opportunity to further rise to the top or start sliding back to the bottom.I hope the intensity is there like it has been for the first three weeks.I hate to say it but of all the teams that the Bengals had to face after Sunday’s win against the Steelers the last team I would pick is a team like the Browns.

I think they did take the Browns seriously. Chuck Bresnahan just couldn’t help that he was a terrible, terrible defensive coordinator.
by bodacio on Sep 30, 2009 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
ooh, worse coordinator? bresnahan or bratkowski? it’s really kind of close.
you're all posers. i hated bratkowski before it was cool.

To his credit, Bresnahan didn’t have great tools to work with. Bratkowski has 3 or 4 good receivers and will still run the ball on 2-15 or 3-4.

which is the reason i think bratkowski is worse. nobody does less with more in this league.

Over on Sportsline.com Prisco is laughing about this. He says it doesn't matter WHO the Browns' QB is.
The very first comment is as follows, from poster sircheeks:
~
You’ll eat those words this Sunday, Prisco.
Derek Anderson is for real.
~
Wow. The guy who urinates right down his leg in any pressure situation is “for real.” I hope our boys have him on the turf more than Tim Couch.

Derek Anderson is for real
…when it comes to throwing game changing pick-6’s, which I hope he throws at least two on Sunday.
