I only missed 2...

…on my earlier fanpost (Shirley, Fui). Not to brag or anything :)

I honestly wasn’t surprised to see them cut both fullbacks. They likely will not both be plucked so one should be making the practice squad.

Smith's injury

had to play a part in it. They had to keep another OL since he’s hurt, so they likely took the last spot over Blackstock/Vakapuna/White (my last 3 cut). It’s unfortunate because they would probably have more of an impact (on special teams) than Mathis or Roland will have on the bench.

:( Ventrell Jenkins

Oh well. The Cats won today and looked better than the Buckeyes in the process.

No kidding......

I don’t get why Marvin would keep Jeremi Johnson……with all his overweight/out of shape/ injury issues, over Vakapuna or Pressley

I had them keeping:
RB BENSON
RB SCOTT
FB LEONARD
FB VAKAPUNA

So I can see some of what they did…..but I don’t know how you make Leonard 3rd string, when he could be 1st string FB……

How dangerous of a duo would it be when you take the field, and you have Benson/Leonard, Scott/Leonard….or if you have a short yardage situation on 3rd…….you can go Leonard lined up as RB and Vakapuna FB……split set……you would have two dynamite runners that can pound it up the middle and could even do it to fake the defense and go quarter sneek up the gut……..

Sometimes I just don’t know….maybe Johnson does wonders under the desk?

After watching Hard Knocks, it’s pretty amazing that they showed how JJ was so out of shape that he was telling coaches how he just couldn’t move right to make plays and how much the coaches loved Pressley’s toughness and nastiness but some how JJ still makes the team. I think they were pretty disapointed with Fui. I’ll guess that Pressley makes the PS but Fui won’t be invited.

marvin’s not the one keeping jeremi johnson; that’s a mike brown call. marvin and his guys clearly wanted pressley.

leonard couldn’t be a starting fullback. he’s not big enough to be a full-time blocker, which is pretty much what our starting fullback is.

Definately surprised they kept four RB's

I guess if they let them go though someone would have taken them. Fui and Pressley will probably not be taken.

I don’t think many people are cleared from waivers to be taken yet. Hopefully we go for a CB or two i’m worried about that position

i’m not sure that any of them actually surprised me. abdul hodge needed to make the team, and blackstock lost to the numbers. there’s no way mikey boy’s going to let jeremi johnson go, so the two rookie fullbacks lost, because they also rationalized that coats can play fullback. i would’ve cut pope and kept lynch or white, but this kind of reads exactly how most of us have suspected it would.

I agree with R Clue White instead of Pope.Just read where Dave Thomas was traded to NO for a hefty price of a 7th round draft pick.NO lost one of their key TEs to a season ending injury similar to the Bengals..They go out and get a couple of street free agents, or in other words fringe players. Within days of losing their TE they pick up a former starter from a playoff team. Thomas is no world beater,he’s primarily a blocker as was Hartsock who was cut earlier this week by the Falcons.Hartsock use to play for the Colts. This recent edition of Hard Knocks, Marvin was screaming about the number of mistakes the team had made. Could one of the reasons the Bengals continue to make more mistakes than their opponent is the lack of experience ???? I don’t know much about Foshi, but he’s played in 7 games and my guess is it’s very limited. The starting TE (Coats) has limited experience and when he’s gotten an opportunity to play he’s not looked impressive.Who did he drop the TD pass against last year when he was wide open. Coffman looks green and on a slow learning curve. Kelly was primarily a blocking TE.I think Hartsock or Thomas would have given them the proper depth with experience and it wouldn’t have cost the Bengals much in compensation.Thomas by the way makes around $500k so he wouldn’t have broke the bank. Considering they SAY they want to protect Carson, they have a funny way of showing it.

Pope might be good, but what about Alex Smith? He’s been a solid starting TE for a few years and was cut today. I really hope no one snags Shirley and the Bengals can give him a solid year of training on the practice squad. He has power to spare and just might become a really great guard if he develops the footwork and mentality for it.

Pope

I agree pope is probably the best pickup out there, he’s a veteran and big target which carson likes; I still dont understand why they kept 4 rb’s. Bratkowski isn’t creating enough to give any other RB other than benson more than maybe 5 carries a game

Unless there are any injuries, I’m guessing that Dorsey will be used mostly on teams.
