Marvin White is going to the Dallas Cowboys

The Bengals official tweet writes that former Bengals safety Marvin White was claimed by the Dallas Cowboys. While many saw his potential as a destructive hard hitting safety when he was drafted, White really never fulfilled those expectations. While he showed a terrible weakness against the pass, his inability to be a sure tackler as a safety killed his chances with the Bengals. Remember last year during the preseason game against the Packers when he drilled the wide receiver, but the receiver never went down and scored a touchdown?

White finished last year on Injured Reserve after rupturing his ACL and MCL after a 34-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. What was the most impressive thing in White's career with Cincinnati, was that he suffered the injury early in the game and spent three quarters playing with the injury. You have to admit, he was tough.

Oddly enough, in the end, the Bengals and Cowboys swap hard-hitting safeties that are weak in coverage. Hopefully Williams is a far surer tackler than White ever was.

he wasnt that bad in coverage

His ball skills just sucked. I dont remember him getting beat deep last year. i just remember him mis judging ball in the air.

he didn’t need to get beat deep. he did just fine getting beat in the intermediate range and then missing a tackle to allow the receiver to make it a long play.

Its kinda sad to see him go

but i didn’t really see much progress from him. Ndukwe was clearly the best safety we drafted that year

I wonder if his injury has resulted in a decline in his play or were the Bengals concerned about it. He went from a starter to being cut about as quick as one can do it.

RE:

Yea, but it just didn’t help that Roy Williams was signed and Chris Crocker replacing him midway through the season last year. Tom Nelson and The Duke’s play eventually just made White replaceable.

But I wouldn’t disregard the injury factor either. That could have been the final straw, you know?

win of a 'trade' for bengals

white has shown little reason he should or could ever be a starter for the bengals. with his tackling issues, its doubtful he can even bring much to special teams. wish dallas luck with white, he’s good on paper, just not on the field.

williams on the other hand, is an improvement over white. he’s nearing the end of his career and has speed issues. but can help bring a nastiness to the secondary that hasn’t been seen since the swat team of the late 80s. crocker, nuke, williams. there are going to be a few tatoos handed out to any WR not watching for defenders this season. can’t wait for the pitts games. its time to remind ward last season hasn’t been forgotten.
