Send this article to Brat/Marv/Mike

We've been complaining about Brat and Mike for along time, and we probably won't stop until one or both is gone. But just in case Brat's not actually irredeemable after all, I'd like to offer him and Mike some good advice. Read this article. Study it. Apply it. Get us some decent WRs. And a decent WR coach as well if need be.

Today's league is a passing league. Yes you MUST be able to run the ball TOO. In 2007 and 2008 the Saints couldn't and they paid for it with a defense that was already not that great that then was too exhausted to get stops and avoid big mistakes. Sound familiar? Like the second half of our season, when we couldn't pass to save our lives and as a result our defense, though pretty good, was too gassed to pick up all the slack for a non-existent offense?

In the playoffs so far, the team that won was the better team each time. In the AFC wild-card games the running games seemed to be the key. They weren't. It was the fact that the teams running the ball were playing against exhausted, worn-out and worn-down opponents who had nothing left. Running just happened to be the poison used, not that running was some magic elixir that gave them the win. And in the NFC, the team with the most balanced rushing AND passing game beat the tar out of its opponent. The teams with only passing games? They had a shootout and wore themselves out such that either team would have been destroyed last night by the Saints.

You have to be able to do BOTH. Right now we can't. We can run. We can't pass. We have the QB, we have an OL that looks to be on the upswing, but right now we don't have the WRs. Until we can pass at least as well as we can run, we're going to be having "what do we do next year" chats in January every single year.
