Interesting things I found on Wednesday
Well today I was browsing around and found a few things that might be interesting to Jungle fans:
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen checked in on the media front. He’s been convinced there’s nothing wrong with Palmer physically ever since he asked him with six weeks left in the season if there was anything wrong with his arm and was told it was “fine.” He agrees that Palmer’s problem is his lack of receivers.
“I don’t hear a lot of negative stuff from people in the league about Carson,” Mortensen said. “When you have a quarterback like that it, it’s like anything else. You have to look at what a (Colts general manager) Bill Polian does for Peyton Manning: ‘I’m going to give him a Dallas Clark. I’m going to give him an Anthony Gonzalez. I’m going to give him a Reggie Wayne even though I already have Marvin Harrison.’ You’ve got to surround him with weapons. He’s absolutely OK.”
When Rex Ryan was asked if Palmer was still an elite QB:
“I don’t think he is. I know he is,” Ryan said. “You put him out there on this field in front of these guys (NFL scouts and coaches) and it ain’t even close. He throws it better than almost anybody in this league. He’s a superstar.”
The agents for Bengals free agents Reggie Kelly and Bobbie Williams said they have yet to hear from the club, but expect to.
Breshnahan gives Odell Thurman a Great recommendation to the NFL for reinstatement
“Odell played lights-out football. It was really fun to watch him come back and do the things he loves to do,” Bresnahan said. “On the practice field, in the games, even in the meeting rooms during training camp and the season, he was incredible. His personality is infectious. He did a tremendous job.”
Thoughs on Tony Pike's Senior Bowl performance so far:
Arm Strength: There's no question that Pike has an above average arm from watching him throw live. He's able to throw with power by pushing off his back foot. He was able to get his ball through the mild breeze during the Tuesday morning practice to his intended receiver.
Accuracy: Because his rushes his throws every once in a while, Pike's passes would tend to sail over his intended target. He's able to drive the ball outside the numbers and hash area fairly well.
Pocket Awareness/Movement: Pike had little trouble moving around in the pocket during the practice session. It doesn't hurt that he's a tall quarterback. He's able to see over his offensive line rather easily.
Mechanics: Pike's footwork was inconsistent, and as a result, some of his passes went awry. Since he has a good release point, Pike is able to get good power into his
Justin Smith was added to the Pro Bowl roster for the NFC........HA!!!
Taylor Mays Not impressing NFL Coaches:
The most impressive physical specimen on the field has underwhelmed scouts with his play this week. Mays has struggled staying with receivers in drills, and his outstanding measurables haven’t translated into smooth or fluid movements in coverage. While he has shown up occasionally as a hitter against the run, Mays' inability to get around the ball consistently has drawn red flags from scouts expecting to see a "can’t miss" talent at the safety position.
Rey Maualuga seems to be the next face of Under Armour:
Nice reviews for guard Mike Iuapti:
Iupati has power and excellent balance. He rarely struggled with one-on-one blocks, quickly squaring up the defensive tackle and neutralizing his rush. He is quick to get out of his stance and into the run-blocking game. Iupati showed the ability to torque a defender and put him on the ground. I want to see more when he pulls, but this guy can play.

Any bet on MB picking Odel up in the next few months?
also, I’m all for Iupati. While our O-Line is getting better; he could help them become a top 5 unit.
I would not put it past MB
Dhani is a FA, and he could redeem Odell on the cheap.
Slim 15, you will be missed. RIP Chris Henry

odell's season line from the UFL - 7 games
listed at 6’0", 235. 34.0 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 1 INT, 2 FF, 1 FR. his 34 tackles were good for 6th in the league and 2nd on the team.
in a full NFL season his stats would project to 78 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 picks.
obviously he is in game shape, but he’s probably not at game speed. i’d put him on special teams as my third stringer and go from there. league minimum.

I would give him another chance
I bet he learned his lesson

oh yeah, i know guys can turn it around
but i keep thinking about the shit that happened right after odell got kicked out of the league. the thing with the gun at the party and the fights… he seemed worse off than slim. slim’s stuff was all alcohol related. odell was straight thuggin’.
but slim is also evidence that just staying out of trouble isn’t the same thing as changing your life. slim kept a low profile off the field and made choices that kept him out of trouble, but deep down he had the same tendencies to act before he thought which got him killed.

Why the hell would we want Odell Thurman?
Our line backing unit is solid. Let’s just draft an outside linebacker and move Rey-Rey to the middle, we’re set. Plus we got some nice back ups with BJ, AH, and RJ. Plus we don’t know what’s gonna happen with Dhani.
If you don't live like you wanna, you live like you shouldn't
Depth
and would not come at a high price, just like LJ

We need to get our act together and help Carson out. If everyone in the league thinks Carson still has it then that’s shows you what they really think of our skill players. How great would it be to grab gresham in the first then a reciever like Benn or Tate in the second round. I think that gives us a great chance at the division back to back. We should worry about saftey in the third because we can add a player to that type of position in FA but with the un capped year the odds of us getting a player like Marshall or boldin are less likely but adding that type of talent in the draft will help Carson take us over Tue top.

Pick up Odell as insurance for...
his clone Maaluga. If the eerie parallels between these two continue (see my comment in the DUI thread) … Rivers better be careful cause he is destined for career ending injury while Maaluga is suspended in the Fall (no I don’t know he will be suspended, but if he is and we play Cleveland during it and I’m Rivers, I might wanna sit the game out purely for Kharma).
In other news, i am guessing Under Armor is gonna hold off on making Rey its new face.
