Chad's MRI: No structural damage to his left knee
Earlier on Monday Chad Ochocinco had tweeted that he couldn't extend his knee and that he was having an MRI. Joe Reedy wrote that " An MRI to wide receiver Chad Ochocinco revealed no structural damage to his left knee." There seems to be little concern and we should expect to see him against the New York Jets.
If Chad would have been unable to go, the Bengals would have had to depend on Laveranues Coles and Andre Caldwell, who have a combined 94 receptions; but less yards and less touchdowns -- combined -- than Chad.
With that thought in mind, on a totally different subject that's months and months away, doesn't that make you wonder if the Bengals may go wide receiver in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft?

We have to address the WR need in the first 2 rounds
Just think, a few years ago we were stocked at WR.
Which means we’ll try to grab somebody in round 7 and hope for another miracle like Colston, right?
I hope I’m wrong of course…
simpson
If you draft a wr early your essentially putting that guy ahead of simpson, all of this depends on what we do with coles i guess
catalina wine mixer
simpson
can anyone really tell me what is wrong with simpson? i don’t think I’ve seen enough of him at this point to even say if he is good enough or not, maybe I just answered my own question
What I heard when I was in cincy for the KC game
was that he doesn’t always line up right, maybe another year will help. I don’t know the truth to this, but it is what the radio said, probably 700, maybe 1530.
I hope so
physically the dude is a stud, if he can figure it out mentally he could be the deep threat we are missing
Caldwell
Caldwell played similar to Houshmanzadeh in his second year. I think in his 3rd year, Cason will look to him more. He has also proved to be clutch.
Coles has not earned his money, but has improved through the year. I think we jettison him if there is no cap hit.
We then need a third receiver, which could be Cosby, with Purify at 4. We can’t wait to see if SImpson will be ready. We would still need a receiver in the draft.
I think there are positions that could use the 1st pick more such as safety, TE, or Guard, but in the end if we need a #3 who can play in his first year, he has to come from a big time program in the 1st 2 rounds.
The problem is this year’s class looks weak at WR.
Gilyard and Tate are both short. Dez Bryant looks to be long gone, and Briscoe isn’t a downfield threat. Brandon Lafell and Arrelious Benn were minor disappointments in college. Eric Dewcker might be a good choice in the second round, if healthy.
Neither Cosby nor Purify
is more than a special teams guy. You need a lot more talent than that to win in the NFL.
Coles is definitely not worth the money and they appeared to commit a lot to him. Caldwell is fumble prone and hasn’t caught a deep ball all year. His CAREER long catch is 24 yards. Back in the days of slinging Greg Cook that was the average catch. :-)
They cannot afford to spend their #1 pick on a WR. They have huge needs on the defensive line (Geathers is way overpaid, Odom hasn’t proven he can stay healthy, and besides Peko nobody else scares anyone). They have huge needs at safety or a third cover corner. They could use a better offensive line since I’m not sold on any of this group as dominating. If Chase Coffman is a bust they need another tight end.

totally disagree on Cosby
I watched him play every game of his college career at Texas, my alma mater. He is an extremely skilled player, probably in part due to him playing for a very small high school and having to play multiple positions, both on offense and defense. I know people in Cincy might just think of him as a special teams guy because they aren’t as familiar with what he can do or because he’s not tall, but if you look at what he’s done, he has some crucial skills.
Like ball control, blocking, and doing what a WR needs to do – running routes, being quick, evading defenders, and making the clutch big play.
I agree to an extent
I am willing to give Cosby a chance. When the passing game has worked, post-Slim (RIP) Cosby has had some catches. It takes the pressure off Caldwell and Chad, allowing them to get open.
Guys, guys...
We’re in the playoffs! We don’t have to start draft talk yet!

Agreed, except
If Coles and Caldwell can’t hold onto the ball on Saturday to advance us, then we’re going to be revisiting this issue sooner than later.
I took this as more a end Bearcats year talk than draft talk in all honesty
The Cincy-Cincy fans will want Gilyard.
The Notre Dame grad student/Texas undergrad/Bengals fan girl votes Tate or Shipley
naturally. I’m a homer and I’m okay with that.
