Bengals Player Pick 'em Wild-Card-Weekend vs Jets

Here is the thread for the first playoff week of our Cincinnati Bengals player pick 'em contest.  The voting was quite overwhelming, so this game will end when the Bengals season does, whenever that may be.  To see the full write-up of the original rules see here.  Last week's (lack of) scoring results and a summary of the rules are repeated below the jump.  Here are the current score standings:

Did anybody besides me bother to watch the second half?  Ugh.  If that's the team that shows up this weekend, good riddance to a season that might as well have been over a week earlier.  But I don't think it will be.  Will we be better enough to make enough of a difference?  Not sure, but I expect the game should at least be a BIT more entertaining and a LOT less nauseating.

This time we have the New York Jets coming to visit our house instead of vice versa.  They do have a really good defense, but it's not invulnerable and they have now one of their best players injured badly enough that he at least will almost certainly not be at 100% on the weekend, if he even plays at all.  That improves our chances.  The offense is not as much better than ours as they appeared last time around, but I think they are a bit better.  Then again, they have guys who can drop the ball as well as or better than ours can.  So a lot depends on who screws up worse.

Time to place your bets.  Pick your player to hang your hat on, and best of luck to all.

Star-divide

The scoring recap post from last week is repeated here as well:

Well with such a butt-ugly puke-fest of a game, I’m glad this is not our final week of the games here. Not a single player on the entire team did anything that would count as scoring. Unless we want to give points for the jets players abusing us or Dan Coats for actually catching TWO balls in the same game… but we won’t. So we’ll head into the postseason with a completely unchanged scoreboard.

If you haven't played yet, here is a brief recap of the rules:

1) Pick one player (Make it easy on me, make him the title of your post.  Both first and last name please.) who is NOT officially listed as a QB, P, or PK on the roster.
2) An offensive score is worth one point per participant who did not pick your player.
3) A defensive player is worth 3/2/1 point per participant who did not pick your player based on if he 3) actually scored, 2) gained possession of the ball for the team but didn't actually score, or 1) allowed the Bengals to gain possession by causing a fumble (or blocking a kick) that another Bengals player recovered.  Sacks or tackles behind the line of and by themselves are not worth anything unless they are a strip-sack (1 point if we recover) or they are also a safety (3 points).
4) You score the maximum possible points for your player but only one time.  So a defensive player who forces an opponent's fumble that Cincinnati recovers and recovers another opponent's fumble at a different point in the game is worth 2x points (not 3x cumulative).
5) Keep commentary to the bare minimum please.
6) Predictions on how they will score are not required, and if you provide one they don't net you any bonus if you are right nor do they detract if you are wrong (so long as they do actually score by game rules).
7) Try to be original yet still pick somebody you think has a realistic chance to score or cause a turnover.
8) Only ONE (1) player entry per contestant, per week is allowed.
9) Deadline for player entries each week is THIRTY (30) minutes prior to kickoff.

Sorry cincyboy, you get one entry per week and changes are not allowed except in exceptional circumstances and even then only by invite. For precedent on this, see the first week’s thread.

He’s going to make up for a season full of follies with the last second game winning TD catch. You heard it here first boys!

Leon Hall

Leon hasn’t been doing well of late, probably as much because people don’t want to throw at him as anything else, but with Peko back to help stop the run I’m hoping they’ll end up in a situation where they have to throw some.

I’m surprised so few are going for Caldwell. If it comes down to another Cardiac Cat performance, isn’t he the guy we should be expecting to win the game for us?

Well is anybody truly that surprised? I wish I was. But I saw this coming weeks ago and while I wish that things had gone differently I’ve been on the fire Brat bandwagon for at least two years now, and I’m getting close to joining the fire Marvin one as well. Well at least we made the postseason. I suppose that IS a step in the right direction. But if we are going to do more than show up occasionally, we have to be able to pass the ball, which means we have to be able to pass protect. And we have to have receivers that can actually catch the ball. Right now we don’t really have any of the above. Not even Chad, although he’s at least decent. But your #1 can’t be merely “decent” if you want to win in the playoffs. And no matter how good your OL is at run blocking, if they can’t pass protect as well you could have Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf back there and it wouldn’t make a bit of difference.

Anyway, enough of this. Time to wrap this game up for the year. First off, as promised, an honorable mention to 80% for giving the rest of the players free points by consistently picking people who aren’t on the team and I think most of the time are retired ex-players. Not entirely sure if he did that every week or not, but hey for all of us who scored points, you owe a thank-you to 80% for giving you an extra freebie pretty much each week you scored.

Now for this week. Our defense did nada again. At least we put a few points on the board offensively, but Mr. Franchise became Mr. Choke and that didn’t help. But Laveranues Coles and Cedric Benson did score TDs, so at least some people will score this week. With 21 participants that means 20 max “uniqueness” points. Unfortunately nobody picked Coles so his TD is worthless in this game.

So here is our weekly scoring only:
Mr X – 20 points (Cedric Benson)

1 – FriarBob – 119 pts
2 – brandone – 108 pts
3 – The Dealio – 87 pts
4 – ZJiff30 – 85 pts
5 – CincyMike56 – 82 pts
6 – Richard L – 74 pts
7 (tie) – supergrover – 72 pts
7 (tie) – Mr. X – 72 pts
8 – Deisel2405 – 60 pts
9 – Danimal – 56 pts
10 – Vman in Germany – 54 pts
11 – jsl413 – 50 pts
12 – featherman – 49 pts
13 – WHYUS!! – 44 pts
14 – Carsonorbust – 43 pts
15 – Bengals FTW – 36 pts
16 – Kabash – 32 pts
17 (tie) – ritalin – 28 pts
17 (tie) – Purple City Middie – 28 points
18 – Greener’s eyes – 20 pts
19 – IFChris – 19 pts
20 (tie) – JohnnyK – 15 pts
20 (tie) – indesignkat – 15 points

Honorable Mention – 80%OFTHETIMEIMRIGHTEVERYTIME

If you see any problem with the scoring above please speak up ASAP.

And until next year, this game is over. Next year everybody starts at zero, so our latecomers to the game this season will have an equal chance to play the whole season and take a shot at grabbing the win.
