Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

Open Thread: Bengals Bye Week

The Bengals are on vacation, enjoying a relaxing time away to hopefully regroup and come back with a renewed energy with the upcoming rough rough schedule we've been waiting for.

That means with Cincinnati off, fans can turn their attention to other NFL teams on Sunday. If you're in Cincinnati, you'll see the Ravens/Patriots on CBS and Falcons/Eagles during the early game. The late Fox game will be the Desperation Bowl between two 1-3 teams, the Cowboys and Vikings.

This is our open thread, to discuss the events of the game or to generally talk about the Cincinnati Bengals.

Watching other teams (especially the Pats) makes me realize just how badly our playbook blows.

Agreed

Kevin Kolb looks 10 times the QB Palmer is. The Falcons have no idea what to expect. We should be able to do that with our talent, end arounds, reverses, etc. Makes me angry watching other teams look competent.

Yeah, but it does give us some ideas for a blueprint. Now if Marvin can turn it into something useful (since we know full well Brat won’t)…

People here just don't want anything to do with any non-Bengals football.

and at the end of the Ravens v Pats game

the fans were booing the Pats.
Hmmmm, another fanbase booing a good team… But we’re not allowed, huh?

by WHYUS!! on Oct 17, 2010 2:37 PM EDT reply actions

They have high expectations

things like winning super bowls.

The Ravens are the best team in the AFC right now.

by occams_tiger_teeth on Oct 17, 2010 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions

we have high expectations too..

Especially this year, we did. What’s the difference b/c if the Ratbirds are the best in our division, then we beat them. Expectations? Yeah we have it too.

by WHYUS!! on Oct 17, 2010 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

I didn't really have high expectations this year

given the Bengals history of lousiness, and the fact that major weaknesses exposed last year, like safety, were completely ignored in this offseason. {Not to mention that I completely expected Bratworst to use Gresham as if he was Coats, rather than having a playbook where the tight end can actually run a deep route… Gresham is averaging a pathetic 7.2 yards per catch this year!}

But I was agreeing 100% with your thought that fanbases boo their teams when they have high expectations. it’s nutty that some Bengals fans who have battered spouse syndrome insist that such things are “not allowed”.

by occams_tiger_teeth on Oct 17, 2010 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions

My experience...

…is that Bengals fans boo a lot quicker than other fans. If your team does poorly an entire quarter or half, of course boo. But at games and in threads here, when there’s one bad play everyone acts like the season is over.

hmm. I was thinking Stockhold Syndrome

but Battered Spouse Syndrome seems more apt

The Ravens are beating the Pats.

I am not happy about that.

I just saw Brady get sacked

and he absolutely threw a fit on the ground. Who do you think he’s going to have a talk with?
Ummm, his line. Like an elite QB does.
That is the spunk I want Carson to have. The spunk that makes everyone better.

"in the grasp"

wtf ever happened to that rule? I saw one where a DL for Cleveland was wrapped around Let Ben In and he plodded about and threw the ball out of bounds. Seems that Esiason used to get that mess called on him if the defenseman’s finger was caught in his shoe lace

The steelers are the dirtiest team in the nfl

It’s official. James Harrison should be suspended for at least 4 games for his actions today. 2 concussions? Both leading with the helmet, one on a defenseless receiver. And getting up acting like he’s tough.

RIP Slim.

James Harrison

I am a huge bengals fan, as well as colts fan and there are and have been two guys i have never been able to stand, Rodney harrison and James harrison. I agree they r talented, but all that talent is over-shadowed by their lack of humility and dirty play. I dont like Hines Ward either, but i can live with him. Ray lewis on the other hand, even tho he’s a dirty bird and makes some big plays, hits he does them cleanly because he has some common sense and decency.
