Anyone else see the 3 Tight End set up that the Pats use?
I wish we had three tight ends to do something like that with our team.
I was just so envious watching three TE's lining up on the same side and being able to use them as blockers or run a play action off of it. Wow I really would've loved to run something like that with Jermaine Gresham, Reggie Kelly and Dan Coats Chase Coffman .
They showed this three tight end set where they had this huge overload to one side then ran behind them. Then on another play they had a play action in the red zone faking that then throwing it to Randy Moss. I mean we have some quality TE's ourself and just wonder why we couldn't have thought of something so ingenious. Maybe I'm crazy to like a formation like that. But it seems like a formation with promise.

Haha wouldn't go that far..
but wishful thinking.
I just wish we could use an interesting scheme in the AFC North.
It might actually be able to carry over to our division.
Well shit
we do have the 6 O-linemen front, so you can’t say we don’t at least have an “interesting” scheme. But I would love to see Coffman back and maybe on the field with Grisham. You figure with those two and TO on the same play, that makes three big targets for Palmer. Pick the guy who has single coverage on a smaller DB and throw to him.
Whatever happened to Ben Utecht?

Utecht had to retire because he got something like 5 concussions.
He just couldn’t risk playing any more. They talked about it on Hard Knocks.

I mean I didn't forget about sending
a 6th lineman out there. But it just doesn’t seem to have the same effect as it did before. Maybe because Brat keeps running it as a counter. I don’t know, I’m not coaching at the moment.
I was being a bit facitious
I’m getting tired of seeing it to be honest. Just looking at it from an X’s & O’s standpoint: when you take away one offensive threat, you enable one extra linebacker to crash the line of scrimmage – which pretty much negates the extra lineman and allows the safeties to focus more on the limited 3 recievers.

Ahh sometimes a lil' hard to pick up over text haha
I think it still has it benefits. For short yardage, I was personally a fan of when we sent Evan Mathis in motion and had him lead block like that.
It definitely can’t be used as much as we did last year. It was a one year thing.
or....
surprise with the 6-man front and immidiately go into the no-huddle so the defense can’t rotate personnel or have time to call defensive plays to counter it….

An extra LB against a O-lineman is suppose to be a mismatch lol! I see the it is some what unique and if I ever saw them run a Playaction or pass play out of it, It would be great but they haven’t and it’s a one dimensional formation at least in the Bengals predictable offense.

It was effective last year when we have a lead
I did see at least one Play action from it last year. But it would be most effective when up by a TD or two when we can say stop the run or else. Or in a situation like cleveland’s when they had the lead and 4 minutes left and wanted to run for a 1st down. Its not a trick play formation, and most successful plays require at least some surprise.

TO vs Randy
TO: selfish, lockerroom & field cancer who has pretty much ruined every QB and subsequently every team he’s been on. Plus he’s 37 and talent is quickly fading.
Moss: proven to coexist with others (Welker) and play his role. Still only 33, so has more years ahead of them.
bottom line: TO is here because nobody wanted him except Chad. The Patriots will not want to let go of Moss – and he will not want to leave a winning franchise to come play for one of the most notorious owners in the NFL.

he wont have it
are you saying Moss doesn’t want to be there anymore? I think if he sits down and ruminates about it, he’ll realize leaving the Pats would be a big mistake. He was absolutely dismal in Oakland before heading to NE who revived his career. Don’t see him running away from a good organization with a smart coach, great QB, and system which sets him up for success – and potential superbowl appearances (don’t think he’s had one yet?)

At least you're not doing as bad as I am at Player Pick'em
I just don’t seem to have the magic this year.
This is our year!
I about shit my pants when I saw Moss signed with the vikings
less than 10 hours after making that previous statement. I think I pretty much discredited myself on anything further I have to say.
Hmmm, let me make another prognostication… Bratkowski remains the OC beyond this year, Mike Brown will never sell the team to a more competitive and win-seeking owner, we won’t draft a solid offensive lineman with our first pick next year, and the players will definitely strike in 2011. Let’s hope my streak continues….

RE: Formation
Pittsburgh already has a formation that is VERY similar to that. The fans even have some dumbass name for it (it’s whatever the 3 diamonds on their helmet’s are called)…I’d wager to say that I bet Baltimore uses something similar to that this year as well…..that’s what happens in the copycat NFL when you have coaches who aren’t complete hermits in the film rooms. Try and notice how many other teams are using Jumbo/Unbalanced lines this year after the success we had last year
Well Tate did it again

Are either of you
guys salavating over the LT Jake Long? Couldn’t Andre Smith have looked a little more impressive during college and garner and draft pick from Miami….. so Long could drop to us?

Andre Smith will never be as good as Jake Long

I know
though at one point of course, the “experts” were claiming Andre Smith was the best offensive lineman in that draft $^#^%$ – I’m sorry I just threw up in my mouth

na the good OT's that draft were Oher, Monroe, and Jason Smith
Andre was the sucky one

Actually,
I hear Monroe has been a bit of a dissapointment with Jaxonville and Jason Smith got pushed over to RT after being beat out by a rookie second round pick this year. But, I’d still take either of them or Oher over Smith.

The problem here is..
Even if we did line up in said formation, our beloved and ingenious OC would have the sure-handed Daniel Coats release for the dropped TD in the endzone. Then we’d put in B. Scott and have him run up the middle for a 1-yard loss.
Why do I feel like our OC wants us to lose?
