General Banter & Breaking News

Bengals-billboard_medium

via www.midwestsportsfans.com

Per Josh's and some others' requests, this post will serve the purpose of day-to-day Bengals & NFL Banter and also serve as a running forum to break new stories that have implications towards the current and future state of our beloved Bengals.  If you're breaking a story, may I suggest using Bold or Italicized font's so that they are more easily recognizable.  This is in no way a personal post of mine, and will be a work in progress so feel free to make suggestions and I'll try and accomodate by editing them in if need be. Also if we want this to stay relevant/easy to find, please rec it so it stays towards the top.

Thanks Bengal Nation and as always Thank You Cincy Jungle!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Cincy Jungle's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Cincy Jungle's writers or editors.

Is that Sign real?

if so, how long will it be up? Is there a way to donate towards a collection for keeping that sign up?

Yes it's real

however I believe it is an older picture from a WDR project mayhem plot a few years back….

by TruWhoDey on Nov 17, 2010 12:12 PM EST up reply actions

what can we do to get that sign back up?

I would seriously contribute up to $10/year to keep that sign up and I have the feeling a lot of people would donate as well. You’re not the writer of WhodeyRevolution are you?

Does anyone know the Waiver Wire schedule?

Pretty sure we’ll find out at 3 or 4 today about whether or not Party Boy passed through waivers….if so, MB could very well still sign him and cut Pettrey.

by TruWhoDey on Nov 17, 2010 12:15 PM EST reply actions

Jeff Reed

passing through waivers….we’ll know today at 3 or 4 O’clock…..accurate or innacurate?
I’m worried that Party Boy drops to us on the wire and MB signs him instead of a kicker w/ZERO NFL experience and 1 miss in the preseason. Reed would cost us 1.5 mil for this year which is right up MB’s alley, however if he takes this chance on the unproven Buckeye for next to nothing- does that say he’s given up on this year too?

by TruWhoDey on Nov 17, 2010 12:28 PM EST up reply actions

We have probably something like 5th priority (or so) on Reed if we want him. After all 32 teams pass he gets his money form the Steelers and is a UFA that we could sign for cheap if we wanted.

I don’t know if I want him or not. He’s not having a good year. And sometimes a young guy with no experience means he has no demons to conquer either. So I’m OK with sticking with the newbie. He could flame out or he could be pretty good. Just give him a shot and see what happens. In another week or two we’ll know whether he was a mistake or not and there will be others out there to look at if he was.

Nailed it

Theres a report out on PFT that confirms we went after Jeff Reed. I understand it from a football standpoint of hey, we need a kicker. But what a kick in the dick to us as fans. I don’t want steeler leftovers and i’m sure most of you don’t either. Good thing Reed turned us down, what’s next???

Personally I think Fan Shots should be used for breaking news.

And I think if people are looking for breaking news they should look and comment more on the fan shots. However this General Banter is a great idea for people those of us who almost live roaming Cincy Jungle taking in every little bit of information and data we can find :)

Great idea.

Sort of a community thread, I guess.

Something we kinda need.

Go to Pride of Detroit or Mile High Report, they usually hit about 10+ fanposts a day on subjects and many will quite frequently draw 100+ posts fairly easily.

So Marvin does correspond w/ a coach in the booth when deciding whether to make replay challenges.

Sorry for all the hate, Marvin. The quesiton than becomes….who the #$%# is reviewing plays up there? OJ Simpson? We all know he knows a thing or to about judgment calls…..

How will Chris Carpenter explain this to his children?

This is the kind of Man Marvin Lewis is

and this could very well be him just saying the right things so the players don’t completely quit on him…but i really hope this means MB has finally succumb to Marvin’s requests….. Per MARVIN:

"I see a future here," said Lewis when asked about his expiring contract and 2-8 record. "I haven’t got done what I came here to do. And I failed ‘em. But we’re still doing it and we’re going to keep doing it and keep working. This has not been the season we all wanted. But it is where we are right now. My guys coach very hard and that’s not going to change."

I think it's a lot of hot air

Marvin has had so many experiences with disappointments that he’s prepared a sheet with things to say each week to keep us thinking that he cares.

by TheCinWin on Nov 23, 2010 1:18 AM EST up reply actions

It's possible although not likely

MB will give into Marvin what he needs. Because of the potential work stopage the future has been put on hold. MB will do what the Bengals regime has done every year with their head coach (except Homer Rice-fired and Bruce Coslet-quitter) review the year and assess their direction(this is usualy game planning for a .500 year.

Bengals tried out Nick Novak and signed Stitser instead

Speculation is that they opted not to sign Novak due to the UFL’s $150,000 transfer fee. 14-15 in the try out with the one miss being from 54 yards away.
Garrett Lindholm ,Sam Swank in for kicker tryouts today.
