Post-Game Open Thread: Bengals Lose

The Bengals are pretty bad at football. Ryan Fitzpatrick has thrown 4 straight touchdown passes, and I'm leaving, so here's your postgame thread.

hard to find words for this one, keeping it simple is best.

1) we lost.
2) we suck.
3) we earned this.
4) all of the above.

I’d move OC to worst
I’d move drafting to bottom five
Offensive line might be near bottom five.

I, personally, still feel Palmer is certainly above average but we can never know with a rotten OL and other issues just listed above.

Carson:

I think could be listed as “average” rather than below average.

I think he can be successful with a very good offensive line, but I think you could say that about many, many quarterbacks…even some backup QB’s. Shit, I may be back to listing him as below average.

I do think the problems that ail the defense and the team are much bigger than Zimmer, but at this point he’s not doing much to earn serious consideration, let alone keep his DC position. If I were more optimistic I’d like to say “aim higher”, but we know Mike Brown won’t. Wouldn’t be surprised if Zimmer was the head coach by tomorrow.

by bodacio zk on Nov 21, 2010 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

Well, it might not be the worst.

I’ve said all along that I actually think Zim would be a better head coach than DC. The HC job plays to his strengths and largely minimizes his weaknesses, which were (presumably) highlighted today.

What's the point anymore?

20 years and now ANOTHER rebuilding project under Mike Brown? There are maybe 5 players on this roster worth holding onto and there’s not a chance in the world of luring any top level coaching talent into town. When is the next stadium lease standoff supposed to be? I say let them leave. Oklahoma City might be desperate enough or St. Louis if they end up losing the Rams. It s just absolutely not worth anyone’s time to be a fan of this team anymore.

Ive defended Marvin in the past and even last week wanted to retain him...

I cant stick up for him any longer…he needs to go,Brat should have gone a long time ago. Zimmer was out coached today also. Carson Palmer threw 2 horrible picks that had fuck all to do with scheme or WR route confusion, and more with his failure to see the field and stare down passes. In the 2nd half today if TO made a catch Palmer decided to throw to him exclusively, later he did the same to Shipley. Cedric Benson…hold on to the football for f’ sake. Fuck the whole shower…Only Jordan Shipley can keep his head up after that.

As for our all powerfull owner?GM…he is the reason I feel completely jaded, this guy couldnt build with stickle bricks nevermind an NFL team. He will never get a GM in and never run this team like a proffesional organisation…why should I bother following them…even though I know I will watch on Thursday….Dammned Fool

sad part of the story

brown is in his mid 70s. he’s not about to step aside this far into his ‘career’ as the bengals gm.

the great thing is, mike’s records as gm will become his legacy to the nfl. nobody will ever lose 200 games faster nor will they win 100 games slower.

"wherever Brad St. Louis is and Shayne Graham is about to be." -R.F. Mehl

by palewook on Nov 21, 2010 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

If he stops being GM

It’s because he’s retired altogether. You’re right that he won’t relinquish that power at this point. The question is how long he feels like working anymore in general. It’s a demanding business, and he might be tired of it. But he’ll never give up his decision-making power as long as the team is his.

It's time to sink or Zim.

by Pardon_My_French on Nov 21, 2010 4:41 PM EST up reply actions

Even then, that won't matter.

He’s handed down the incompetence to his daughter, demonstrating that football knowledge skips at least two generations in the Brown Family.

by FordhamRam on Nov 21, 2010 4:42 PM EST up reply actions

I also do not see ANY reason not to fire Marvin Lewis immediately.

Yes his contract’s up and it doesn’t matter, but you’re obviously going to give Zimmer a look as the new HC so why not let him coach the rest of the season in an interim role so you have SOME kind of gauge on whether or not he can handle the job? You’ve already paid Marvin. You know Zimmer is itching for the opportunity. It’s not like you have to spend a single extra cent and you send the message to the team and the fans that you’re willing to actually DO something.

by eric nyc on Nov 21, 2010 4:23 PM EST reply actions

I just said that there’ no reason NOT to now. Which means if Mike Brown doesn’t, which he probably won’t, it will just be a blatant statement that he doesn’t care. Which, as far as I’m concerned, means I have no reason to pay any attention to or spend any money on his football team anymore.

What I just did with my old NFL-replica Carson Palmer jersey

After the game today, where my heart was cut out by the apathetic losers that are the Bengals, I took matters into my own hands:

I have 2 dogs that needed a walk. So, I cut 2 8’’x8’’ swatches from the front-bottom of my jersey, and used them to pick up my dogs’ shit.

Anyone want to see the pics? Looks better than Carson did – and I finally did something good with my Bengals jersey.

1. Fire Darrin Sh*thead, special teams coach. Today.

3. Lose every game from here on out.
4. Blow up Denny’s when the Brown family goes in for there grand slam meals tomorrow morning
5. Let Marvin go on to greener pastures, make Mike Zimmer head coach.
6. Wade Phillips as new Def. Coordinator.
7. Build a practice bubble.
8. Expand the scouting department by 15 members
9. Hire a potential GM from a classy, well-run NFL team
10. Draft Andrew Luck first in the draft.

OK - Reality time

The Bengals are going to exceed my preseason pick of 5-11.
I actually had this as a winnable game in the preseason.
The Bengals are ensconsed (sp) in the number 2 poisition in the draft behind the Panthers (who would have to lose twice for the Bengals to move to the number one spot).

Do I have any solutions? Only if anyone remembers what I wrote in the preseason about this team (but you do not) before being run out of here as a realist, then you know my gameplan.

PS – my draft board has Andrew Luck in the one spot and AJ Green in the two position. Oh goody – another primadonna receiver.
