Open Thread: Bengals Play On Monday Edition

Since the Cincinnati Bengals are enjoying a day off before the much anticipated Monday Night showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers, we can sit back and actually enjoy a Sunday afternoon like the rest of humanity. It won't be like our typical Sundays, where we tend to get all worked up based on what the Bengals did/didn't do. No, we can actually sit back, eat some red meat, pillage our towns, drink mead and say inappropriate things to our wenches.

In the Cincinnati area, the games are, well, alright I suppose. Fox's lone game has the Cardinals at the Vikings. On CBS, the Browns/Patriots and then the Colts/Eagles. So sit back, enjoy Sunday afternoon and let's talk some football.

Sweet, finally Sunday Ticket will be worth it!

Even though I know I’ll just watch Red Zone Channel…

Browns 10, Patriots 0

Browns are a team on the rise, methinks.

next year might end up being the perfect storm with 4 competitive AFCN teams

….or three if we can’t get our act together.

Anyone notice how hard the Browns are playing for their coaches

and how much emotion the coaches are showing on the sidelines? They both act like they want to win on every play.

Everyone

seems to like playing for the Ryan’s. Rob’s got his defense playing well and even Mangini is getting them to play well. I hate Mangini but he’s getting wins without much talent.

Falcons get lucky again. Jets get lucky again. Browns kick the #1 ranked ESPN power poll team’s butt. Chicago gets lucky again. Baltimore whips Miami’s butts. Saints kick the Panthers butts.

Notice any kind of pattern here? Good teams winning games, sometimes by luck, sometimes by better coaching. Most of them have similar talent to us. We could be in that list. But we’re not because Mike Brown and Bob Bratkowski are idiots.

I still think Baltimore is really overrated...

and that’s not bias, b/c I hate Pittsburgh more, and I think they deserve to be in the top three of the ESPN PR. The Ravens haven’t really impressed me. Teams make mistakes against them at an alarming rate, and they aren’t forced mistakes.

Also, why were the Giants No. 9 last week? And why won’t they be No. 1 this week? That’s the best team in the NFL right now. They had some bad games early, but they just killed Seattle at Seattle, which has never been easy. The ’Hawks are good at home, and they got demolished, just like Dallas, Houston and Chicago in the last month or so.

And yes, MB and Brat are the worst combo imaginable. It’s the stuff of nightmares.

Cleveland is building a team with Rookie QB Colt McCoy and the Browns. “GREAT” game against the Patriots no way could Palmer compete with McCoy’s arm and his on the run throws for completions. “Like it or Not!” It’s time to find a “NEW” QB in Cincy if they wish to be a Super Bowl Contender,, it’s time the Bengals start building and stop bungling. The Bengals have both the Off. and Def. talent but does not have a “QB” in Palmer that offers any confidence or leadership as a team player.

On the Hillis TD, two things happened

1. LG Steinbach pulled and got a great block on the DE
2. Their FULLBACK made a great block on the edge

I’m not sure we have either of those capabilities to make a play like that happen

exactly true

Browns O-Line>>> Bengals O-line

When you chart (the plays) and see where it broke down there was no common theme to it. Bob Bratkowski

by featherman on Nov 7, 2010 8:04 PM EST up reply actions

wasn't necessarily a knock on our o-line

because with Andre Smith and Livings playing pretty solidly now, I don’t believe they’re still the real issue – though aren’t as good as Cleveland’s. My frustration was that we let Steinbach go (who definitely would be an upgrade over Livings) and we don’t have a true fullback.

Fully agree

The O Line was a huge issue, but it looks a lot better right now. The offensive play calling, the D Line, and the QB are the issues (in that order I think, but it’s a tough call).

he's built like a fullback

but he looks like Stephen jackson out there. nuts!

I think I'm just gonna start auto-skipping the "can Palmer" posts.

Man, there’s gonna be so little to read around here.

And yeh, I’m damn pissed about that Lions loss, losing four key players to injury really turned the tide of the game. It’s damn easy to beat back-ups and even easier when field goals can’t be kicked.

I don't agree

what’s the point of blowing up the Bengals when Mike Brown’s just going to pick worse people to run things?

What needs blowing up is Mike Brown.

I will get murdered fir this but...

JW has a point. Lewis, Palmer, and Chad have had 7 years together and haven’t had a single playoff win. No disrespect to either of them but the window is closed. I’ve expressed my faith in Palmer but with a base salary of 11.5 mil next year…well, I just don’t know.

by smoormandiddy on Nov 7, 2010 10:01 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

by 2014, his base will be 14 mil

and of course, that’s just his base salary before other bonuses… I’d like to see him get surgery on his elbow to actually fix it and then see what happens. As for Chad and Marvin, I agree as well.
