Carson Palmer Throws Two Pick-Sixs Against The Pittsburgh Steelers

PITTSBURGH - DECEMBER 12: Carson Palmer #9 of the Cincinnati Bengals drops back to pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the game on December 12 2010 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. (Photo by Jared Wickerham/Getty Images)

The results dictate the next statement. If Carson Palmer isn't playing in Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bengals are in a better position to actually win the game on Sunday. After an impressive opening drive to take a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter, the Bengals offense resumed their trend of being an awful collection of overrated talent glued together by KY Jelly aptly applied to their own defense.

With the offense taking a 7-0 lead, the Bengals forced the Steelers offense to punt the football on their first three possessions in the game. Cincinnati's defense, while not shutdown, did prevent the Steelers offense from reaching the endzone. However, the team's offense quickly remedied that with two Carson Palmer interceptions that resulted in a touchdowns by LaMarr Woodley and Troy Polamalu. So far this season, Palmer has allowed five six-picks and, per Joe Reedy, leads the NFL with 15 pick-sixs dating back to 2004.

With 5:24 left in the second quarter, Carson Palmer drops back and looks to his right, which means he's likely going to throw to his right. Terrell Owens lines up right and runs a slant route. Instead of running it underneath in a more script route, Owens fades the route into a stale route, running flat upfield. Troy Polamalu jumps in front of the pass and returns it for a touchdown. With 12:27 left in the fourth quarter, Carson Palmer drops back and looks to his right, which means he's likely going to throw to his right. Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley drifts back and cuts underneath Chad Ochocinco, who is running a quick out route. Woodley picks off the pass and runs down the left sidelines for the touchdown, taking a 20-7 lead.

It wasn't until there was 5:34 left in the game before Pittsburgh recorded their third field goal in the game, which would have been the first time Pittsburgh took the lead if not for Palmer's interceptions. The Bengals fell to 2-11 on the season, riding high on a ten-game losing streak. And you can give thanks to Carson Palmer for that impressive streak.

What ya’ll think bout Mallet? Boys got a cannon but looks like Santa Clause with his mobility

I like Mallet

Good pick!

But I think he may be a red shirt junior. Unless he declares and comes out early, I doubt that it will become a reality.l

by sao402 on Dec 12, 2010 8:27 PM EST up reply actions

Mallett is in a spread offense.

Which I guess if you’re Sam Bradford still makes you a successful QB of the future in the NFL….BUT that’s the biggest concern I have for Mallett. Other than that his frame reminds me of Big Ben.

My biggest concern is that Mike Brown won’t draft a QB. I’m glad there are at least good options in the draft this year.

Message Received CP9 !!

Gosh if the message is trade me or change things, I think MB is getting it.

But why throw your team mates under the bus with two intentional pic 6’s. Guess MB didn’t hear you, maybe he will now.

I think He'll be a Seahawk next year

He’s trying to get cut, and who could blame him?

by BonnieBengal on Dec 12, 2010 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

irony

I yelled out “have fun in Seattle next year, Carson” as the overrated shampoo salesman dove inside the corner pylon for the score.

overrated?

oh come on man. He is really impressive shampoo salesman.

Contract terms

Can anyone explain the remaining contract for Carson? Guaranteed money? If he gets cut do they owe him anything beyond guaranteed money? If traded, does the new team absorb the entire contract? Do the Bengals get draft pick compensation much like a free agent signing? Or, in a trade deal do they rewrite everything into the trade terms?

So, if he’s trade bait what can we gain?

by sofakingood on Dec 12, 2010 5:59 PM EST reply actions

No collective bargaining agreement in place, no salary cap.

No penalty for releasing him. He already got his signing bonus. You keep him, you owe him $12 million next year. You cut him, you’re off the hook completely and his contract gets thrown out the window.

These are the last days of Carson Palmer in Cincinnati.

by eric nyc on Dec 12, 2010 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

Maybe they could negotiate a deal like Harbaugh/Luck may get and trade Marv/CP9 with JP5 thrown in for cash plus draft picks. Maybe the interceptions are intentional, perhaps to send MB a message……trade me!

by sofakingood on Dec 12, 2010 6:48 PM EST up reply actions

any other team

I would agree, but the Bengals, I’m not so sure….. Any other team in the NFL would have fired the head coach by now. Not to say ML is entirely to blame but the firing is a symbolic statement that losing is unacceptable. But with ML you have no change. Since the season is lost why not play the young guys. Why not start the rookie QB LeFeavre ? See what he’s got. Maybe add some excitement to the team. Instead we get the Bengal version of Groundhogs Day.

I loved it when Bill Murray punched that insurance agent he knew from high school in the movie. I wish that was Mike Brown getting knocked the F*uck out.

i was shocked to notice that carson's seasons stats were not that bad at the begining of the game

but his love of the pick six is unacceptable.
bengal d dropped three easy interceptions in the first half.
i ruined a family get together screaming at the tv watching a game that shouldn’t have been on ny tv.
this may be the most underachieving bengal team of all time. done in by the pick 6 qb, awful coaching, and injuries to the secondary.
nice to see the d line play well.

by andyfrombrooklyn on Dec 12, 2010 6:02 PM EST reply actions

Not new, but it explains it all

http://abitdistracted.com/carson-palmers-brain-unfit-for-a-qb

He really does appear to lose his mind when the pressure mounts. Spiking the ball when the D jumps offsides, delay of game penalties, letting the clock run out at the opponent’s 3 yard line, dumping the ball off well short of the first down when he has time to throw, throwing into triple coverage, etc….)

This article is really worth reading, folks...

First use of the Myers-Briggs test on an NFL QB that I’ve seen, and yes…it really explains a lot.

Feel free. I read about this a few years back, but never thought much considering Palmer played pretty well for a stretch. I’ve seen quarterbacks with much less physical talent, but few who go about the position in such a braindead manner.

If anything, this season has cemented Palmer's legacy in the Natti

All the excuses, injuries, bad luck, etc. etc. gave us reason to stay on the Palmer bandwagon. No more. Dude is done.

You think he is related to Jake Delhomme?

Hi fans it Brandon Roy.
And ME.....LaMarcus Aldridge

I’m a die hard USC fan and a Bengal fan… One thing to know…. NEVER DRAFT A QB FROM USC unless you are sure they are a stud

note

Damn… I was going to rub it in but you guys are down enough so- get off the ledge. Last year was a dream, like when Bobby Ewing dreamed a whole season on that show"Dallas".

welcome to the jungle

it gets worse here everyday

trust me, this team is bleeding out the gut when it comes to fanbase. 10 game losing streaks, and letters from the owner that say basically nothing will change will do that. Now, we could be happy and change teams, but we’re fans dammit! And we couldn’t call ourselves fans if we just jump bandwagon to bandwagon. Have some pride

Heeeeey, Ochocinco, he's a good guy, no?

by bill schwab on Dec 12, 2010 10:35 PM EST reply actions

Let’s keep Palmer and get some WR’s that run the correct routes/finish the routes.

Carson Palmer???

I sure hope that Carson has the decency to let us know when he decides to pickup some extra cash by fixing the games. He would have to inform us because right now, I’m not sure we’d be able RECOGNIZE ANY DIFFERENCE IN HIS PERFORMANCE!!!
