What do you expect if we get another QB?
I personally think its time for Carson to go. I think he has lost all hope in the Bengals and his play has fell because of that. WIth that said, Is another QB going to save this team? Unless we get Andrew Luck, and we probably wont, what else are we going to find better than Palmer. Especially if we dont make any major coaching changes. Even if we get rid of Brat, Mike Brown will probably just hire someone from in house who is just as bad as Brat. Is another QB going to be able to work with this offensive line, these recievers, this horrible play calling? What if we continue to lose and not replace? Say Chad and TO is gone, and Andre Smith never comes back right, Bobbie Williams continues to play worse, Kyle Cook stays playing at this level, and all the other possibilitys for this team to get even worse. I just dont see reaching for Cam Newton, Ryan Mallet, or getting Locker or Ponder in rd 2 is going to save this team. I think throwing a rookie into this team is just going to destroy his career like the Browns did to Tim Couch. What I think we should do, Trade Palmer for a whatever we can get, be it picks or O line help. Pick up a Kerry Collins, Jon Kitna type QB. Draft AJ Green because Luck will be gone. Trade Chad for whatever we can get. Dont resign TO. And draft whatever the Best O line we can in rounds 2 and 3. Or if a suitable QB is in the 2nd get him and let him sit untill the team is able to protect him.

1. Couch was a product of the Offense Hal Mumme had at Kentucky, he was that drafts version of graham harrell. There was actually little any team wouldve done with him.
2. Kyle Cook has no support on the O Line period. Tell me how good you can do when you have Livings on Williams to your left and right. The mantra of the of the O line is 5 fingers in a fist. When 2 of these guys dont work it will effect the ones on both sides.
3. You need a new QB because it’s not about winning this year or immediately, its about a quick rebuild that needs to take place. So sure maybe his rookie year Luck, Newton or Mallett may not be playing better than Carson is now, but their upside will be a lot more than what Carson’s.
Sports = Money.
cook had them last season too
I don’t think cook is a great center, only good. And I agree with getting a new qb but we can’t just throw him in with a team that’s only going to get worse if they don’t make changes fast.

agreed
Cook may not be All-pro but I feel he’s solid and the two guards on his sides are not helping him at all.
No you don’t want to give him a sinking ship but you do need to go future.
Sports = Money.
I agree about planning for the future.
I just dont think throwing a rookie QB in will be good. Thats why I say draft Green, and build a line. Give a QB a chance to produce.
But this is actually a pretty decent class
Most of these QB’s at least give a Franchise QB vibe.. Next year I’m not too sure.
Sports = Money.
Luck
is the only one who I think will be a franchise QB. I think Newton might be but im not sold on him, and I dont think Mallet will ever be.
Locker and Devlin
I are projects, they are 2nd round picks that need to sit for at least a year probably more. They could turn into a franchise QB way down the road, but i dont see either as elite QBs.
Yea I never said they were
Blue chips or going to be big helps. Many times one of those developmental qb’s step in when the starting QB goes down, and you find out he’s not a development.
Sports = Money.
I wouldnt mind drafting them in round 2
But i dont want to hand over the keys to the franchise to them.
Totally agree about building a line.
A rookie QB won’t be any good (even if it’s Luck) if he’s on his back every play.

Easily.
I think one thing that will effect the draft outcome of the OL is the progression of G/C Reggie Stephens.
I honestly feel if he steps up to the plate next yr with a FA or Draft pick at the other guard we’ll have a solid line.
Sports = Money.
Evaulation
Not that I trust the Bengals to evaluate properly, but their draft choice needs to be based on that.
If they think Luck can be a playoff-type QB, and he is there, take him. I’m not nearly as sold on Locker/Mallett/Newton. Newton would be interesting, but I’d prefer a more polished passer. Of course, with our oline, maybe having a guy that can move is good. If we draft Newton though, we better have an offensive plan in mind, b/c he won’t fit into a conventional offense.
I’m still very high on AJ Green as well. Not often you get a chance to draft a true #1 type receiver, and with Ocho and TO getting old, that will be a big need soon.
i agree on AJ Green
people are saying he’s a Megatron/Andre Johnson type of guy….how can you pass/miss on that pick?!?!
Luck is the #1 pick…if we don’t have it, someone else will take him. Carolina has the #1 so if they don’t want him, they will trade out to someone who does (IE: don’t ready that as the Bengals even trying to trade up, it won’t happen)
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
I'm for Locker
He can run pretty well and is a very good passer. Mentally, he needs a little work, but he played for a god-awful Washington team. I don’t think throwing him behind a mediocre offensive line with decent receivers is going to push him out of his comfort zone. I think he fits the players who would be around him very well.
I don’t like Mallett. He’s got a cannon arm, but he’ll screw up the short passes that will be available to Gresham and Shipley. He also doesn’t have good pocket awareness or quick feet, qualities you need if you want to survive behind Cincy’s offensive line.
It's time to sink or Zim.

what about this
bring kitna back on a two year deal, draft a qb and let kitna mentor him while starting, then if the guy is ready his second year keep kitna as a backup…..
"God has blessed me and I will continue to do my best for him. This is more important than anything I could do in baseball." -Albert Pujols
I wouldn't be opposed.
I liked him when he was here, and he still can play. As for who we draft, just get the best damn player available! In terms of who I’d want to grab:
1. Luck
2. Bowers
3. Green
4. We’ll see.
NO!
I’m sick to DEATH of “taking the best player available.” That’s what got the Bengals Chris Perry in ‘04! You have needs? You DRAFT to fill them! Would have gotten the Bengals Darnell Dockett (still in the league, unlike Perry) when they couldn’t stop the run to save their lives!
Who was the defensive coordinator back in those days? Oh yeah…that guy who just fell bass-ackwards into the head coaching job in MinnesOOOHHta!

I agree with The Walrus
You should draft the best player at a position of need. If you have multiple positions that need addressing than look for the best player to fill one of those positions. Example being if you need WR, O-line, Safety or D-line you shouldn’t draft a QB or RB just because they are the player available you should find and draft the best in those four areas you need.
Not at the number 2 when we have glaring needs.
But I do feel going best player is available in the 2nd round is the best option, be it OL, WR, FS, DL.Who ever just slipped out of the first we need to snag. I really don’t wanna say we need __ in the 2nd because I feel waiting out the draft is the best idea.
Sports = Money.
I was thinking something similar, but Kitna may not want to come here.
He handled it well because he’s a classy guy, but how happy can he really be that we threw him on the bench after his best year?
"I bet that sex Bengals fan is really pissed now." -DT3428
He knew it was coming
the Golden Boy wasn’t going to get paid to warm the bench for long, and they made the right decision.

Get a QB
Get the best QB that we can at our draft spot. We can still get OL in the 2nd an 3rd rounds. Cut CP and get a vet QB that maybe can play for a year or two. That will give the rookie QB and Rookie line a year or two to learn so we dnt have to rush them in to play. But i believe a QB is the first need. Would love to see Kitna back he has fire and wants to win.
Why reach???
I would not want to reach for who we think is the 2nd best qb in the draft. I would rather draft a player who is worthy of that draft slot and has alot less bust potential than Newton or Mallet.
Locker will re-emerge.
I guarantee it. The scouts will love him in the combine and in interviews.
Same old Cyanide, new look.

When reading Brees' book
one of the really cool parts was when he talked about QB Depth Charts….specifically when Whale’s Vagina drafted Rivers to be his replacement and how he handled the situation/ the type of fire it lit under him etc…..
I’ve defended Palmer all year, and will continue to do so until he’s no longer a Bengal or until he sucks under a new OC. With that being said, I think it is time to draft his replacement IF we cut ties with Brat, and let his replacement sit for 1-3 yrs (depending on Palmers production or not under a new OC).

How bout Smith?
Not being a homer, but I would trade CP to SF for Troy Smith and then draft a first round QB. Troy can not be any worse the CP right now, and he has the legs to survive with the Bengals O-line. Troy at least plays with fire. The Bungles need an offensive leader as much as a quality QB.
And how much does it blow that we are already talking about who to draft when the season is not even over?
In nyeguy's defense, he DID say to draft a first round QB.
I don’t really like his idea either to be honest, but he also isn’t saying Smith should be the future.

What do I expect if we get another QB?
The same thing that happened to Carson Palmer.
Joe Reedy: "Supposedly Marvin could not find his flag to challenge the call. I am not kidding. #bengals"
If we don't improve the line and get motivated wideouts
yes the same thing will happen.

Another QB
You guys just have to face reality, this team will revert back to the ways of the 90,s. It will be 5 or 6 years until they win 8 or more games. Dont know about you guys, but I am tired, I am tired of the same old crap we get from Brown, and i am not going to do it anymore. i am going to settle on a new team, one that i can actually cheer about, one that I can have confidence in to win a game. I will watch the Bengals from afar, however i will not spend another dime on this team until, well you guys know and we know that aint gonna happen. Mike brown doesnt give a shit about me or my family, so its time i dont give a shit about him or his family. Adios Mike Brown, you win. And Im out.

The Bengals will draft Cam Newton
The Bengals will draft Cam Newton because there is so much pub around this guy that Mike Brown will it as a way to sell jerseys and other merch. The choice will not be made to win games but move product.
Don't bey on it...
While I wanna see Cam in the Bengals stripes I also understand he is a man already – meaning he’s not long from a starting job in the NFL no matter where he goes… I love him!
6’5" 256, Accurate “pocket-passer”, Extremely mobile – Can run wih it with great speed and moves to make you miss, “A Beautiful Mind” for reading defenses.
With our depleted line, these are attributes we need!!
I don’t think getting him in Cincinnati is gonna be easy at all.. But if we do, and we “FIRE BRATKOWSKI” It will surely be a winner in spite of Mike Brown’s antics…
"Bratkowski-- Off with his head!!!"
Dan LeFevour
Why is nobody talking about this guy? He was a good college player, is mobile and has a good arm. I think, given time, he COULD become a decent QB if brought up correctly and he has some talent around him. They need to draft the lines this year.
by Anthony Cosenza on Dec 14, 2010 6:47 PM EST reply actions
He's also still our 3rd stringer for a reason
I can’t think of a lot of 3rd string QBs that went on to have really productive careers.
Another explanation is “Out of sight, Out of mind.” I don’t think any of us actually have any idea if he’s a capable NFL QB because nobody’s seen him play yet.
This is our year!
He was in a spread system
and nobody has seen him play enough to think hes ever going to be a starter.
Draft AJ Green because Luck will be gone. Trade Chad for whatever we can get. Dont resign TO. And draft whatever the Best O line we can in rounds 2 and 3. Or if a suitable QB is in the 2nd get him and let him sit untill the team is able to protect him.
I disagree with everything here except drafting high O-line draft picks. Simple bring your talent back build the line and fire Bobby. This team is instantly dangerous.
