Marvin Lewis And Carson Palmer Ten Wins Away From Best Head Coach / Quarterback Tandem In Franchise History

After an impressive win in blizzard-like conditions in Chicago on Sunday, the New England tandem of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick scored their 108th win in the regular season (not this season). This is the second-most wins by a head coach / quarterback tandem in NFL history, surpassing Pittsburgh's Chuck Noll and Terry Bradshaw. The two men remaining on Belichick/Brady's radar? Don Shula and Dan Marino with a combined 116 wins.

Naturally, I wanted to see the Bengals tandem. Since the Bengals have really only sustained a semblance of success with three quarterbacks, I only categorized those three.

Head Coach Quarterback Wins Winning%
Sam Wyche Boomer Esiason 54 .505
Marvin Lewis Carson Palmer 44 .468
Forrest Gregg Ken Anderson 29 .580
Paul Brown Ken Anderson 27 .675

Lewis and Palmer are ten wins away from tying Sam Wyche and Boomer Esiason, one of the lasting head coach / quarterback combinations in franchise history. However, the way things are looking, it doesn't appear they'll be challenging that anytime soon, considering that it's been 78 days since the team's last win and considering that the Cincinnati Reds have won four games since the Bengals last win.

They'll never get the chance.

Lewis will be let go to save money in the off season. They will hire Zimmer as head coach/ defensive coordinator. Also Peter King stated the Bengals should trade Palmer to San Fransisco for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I the Bengals could get a 2 from the 49ers I would do it right now. The Eagles got 2 2nd’s for McNabb so that is not crazy. I would take that pick, then trade Ocho for whatever you could get, and then trade down in the draft to the Pats for their 2 #1’s. Then take the QB that is left from the Luck/Mallet/Newton group in the teens and start over.

Will Mike Brown trade any of the old players to save money and get picks? Probably not.

A 2nd round pick?

I would be ecstatic for that. I don’t see how he would possibly net that much.
