Ndukwe Out For The Season: Bengals Have Seven Defensive Backs On IR This Year

As Jason posted on Monday evening, the Bengals placed Chinedum Ndukwe on the team's Injured Reserve after what can only be the result of serious knee damage after someone crashed into his knee midway through the first quarter on an attempted tackle.

According to Kevin Goheen, Ndukwe becomes the 15th player on IR, one away from tying the Indianapolis Colts for most players on IR in the NFL. Although that's merely a technicality considering that Jason Shirley isn't being counted on Injured Reserve because he's on the non-football related injury list -- injuring himself away from the team during a charity basketball game.

Dating back to November 14, exactly one month ago, the Bengals have placed 11 players on IR, five defensive backs and four defensive linemen. And yes, we're including Shirley as the 16th player in our list.

We were 2-6 or 2-7

when we had all these guys. That is what a 10 game losing streak can do for you.
Rest assured fans, Mike Brown will claim, after the season, that the reason Bengals lost so much was the IR situation.

Look for the Bengals to drop payroll next season too.
Look for Palmer back too now that we’ve heard the company Yes man, Bob Bratkowski tell us how good CP will be again.
No limit to how bad this team will be in the years ahead.

not trying to start another conspiracy theory

but you have to wonder how many of these were “really” season ending injuries, and how many players were shelved just to have an excuse for why we suck so bad….

the conspiracy theorist in me

makes me wonder if they’re also sitting JJo all these games so that other teams are less aware of his talents come free agency. we all know Mike Brown loves low ball offers

Q: Are you going to essentially fire yourself and hire a general manager?

I think you guys

Are giving way too much credit to Brown, who would have to pay all of the salaries of the new players coming in to replace those players on IR. :)

that's the funny think about mike brown

he gets a cheap training staff and sub par facilities, but then has to pay another 20 players after the annual IR tally adds up. is he really saving himself much money?

i wonder how often he responds to those commercials offering to get rid of his credit card debt

None of these injured players would have helped anyway

We still would have lost the last 10. None of the key IR’d players had any real impact this season prior to the 10 game losing streak.

In fact...

Of the players currently on IR, I can only see three that I would keep next year: Jonathan Fanene, Brandon Ghee and Adam Jones. Start fresh without any of these bums (I’m talking to you Tank, Andre, Rico, Chinedum aka “Burnt Toast”)
