Carson Palmer Can See Himself Playing For Another Team Next Season

PITTSBURGH - DECEMBER 12: Carson Palmer #9 of the Cincinnati Bengals drops back to pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the game on December 12 2010 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. (Photo by Jared Wickerham/Getty Images)

It might be hard to imagine that Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer is struggling this year. No, no. It's true. We've often supported the idea that while Palmer is struggling, he's also not the only player struggling. The team's running backs are below league average in most major statistical categories and the defense has dropped 17 places in the rankings. And the pass protection by this offensive line doesn't necessarily help Palmer stand firm in the pocket to go through natural progressions -- hence why Palmer forces throws to his initial receiver, who is usually Terrell Owens.

But when it's all said and done, Palmer is your franchise quarterback that's paid franchise-level quarterback money with the keys to the franchise. He's the God of Golden Arms. Aside from the typical ownership and coaches arguments -- well, rants -- Palmer is the face of this franchise. And that face (in hypothetical speak, not Palmer's actual face) looks like a tire iron has been broadsided across the face 20 times in an effort to actually make it look better.

On Wednesday, Palmer was asked if he can see himself with another team next year. Careful, Carson. You don't want to fuel the fire of saying, "sure", when extremely sensitive fans are willing to pay for your bus ticket out of the city.

"Yeah. Anything's possible. This is a business."

Oh, as long it's a business. While Palmer is casually correct, it only adds to the fuel to the fire from fans that believe Palmer isn't able enough, both physically and emotionally, to lead this team anywhere but down.

can you blame him?

he’s got to be as tired as anyone. I imagine he has day dreamed of a career resurgence playing for an actual professional football organization somewhere else.

Honestly the only thing I could think of that would make Carson excited about coming back next year would be if they hired a new offensive minded head coach, like Hue Jackson (cause we know none of the big name guys are coming here).

Otherwise even assuming he is back next year, which really given our owner and the backup QB situation it is about 95% likely he stays, it’s just going to be more of the same

So long buddy.

You gave us hope like no one QB has under Mike Brown. I hope you earn a ring in a city that appreciates you.

my sentiments exactly Doc

he deserves a fair shake as much as anyone, and definately a city that appreciates him with ownership willing to do what’s necessary to put the right pieces around him

there is a sad part of me that agrees

just for his sake, and as an NFL fan, I’d like to see Carson in another city & another organization where he could do something great.

But I hate and resent that part of me.

Agree

I think the city appreciates what he tried to do for this team or at least I did. The ownership didn’t appreciate him enough to put a team around him. Time to move on.

Wishful thinking from

Carson. Hope against hope.
His daytime fantasy.
Best wetdream he ever had.

But at $12 million/year, how could he come back? If Brown wants him to restructure his deal, I am sure Carson says “no way now or ever”.
Carson does deserve a shot elsewhere, maybe he still can play and just needs a change of scenery.

if he leaves, we are done yet again for another 5 years waiting……….
his offensive line stinks……….and he is making mistakes like everyone else on this team including the crappy coaching staff we have………..our owner is not that bright either………

if he goes, i will root for him as you will see what palmer is all about……

I like the name BengalsBungalsWhoDey!

But with all due respect, I don’t think Palmer will win anywhere else.

Since 1995, Heisman Trophy winners haven’t really made much of an impact in the NFL.

Eddie George, Charles Woodson and Ricky Williams are the only players who had consistent success in the NFL. And none of those three are Super Bowl champions.

I wish Palmer well but he’s done. I don’t expect him to make much of an impact anywhere else.

Palmer isn't a leader

From the timeout incident to his sideline actions, I don’t see Palmer “leading” this team. You can watch other games, for example, two weeks ago when IND’s White ran the wrong route and bumped into Wayne in the end zone, messing up a TD, as they were on the sidelines, Peyton came over and gave him an earful. I don’t see that “control” from Palmer. He’s always just sitting on the bench not saying anything, not looking at a playbook, not consulting with his offensive teammates, no leadership whatsoever. Brady does it, Rivers does it, just don’t see it from him. Now to be fair, I don’t get a lot of Bengals broadcasts, but when I do, I have noticed that he isn’t vocal. I think his personality is quite like Lewis, more quiet and reserved, and that is a problem. They need leaders in that locker room, and all you here is that guys from the O-Line, like Willie, Bobbie or Andrew as the vocal leaders. I think Carson needs to step up, but sadly, maybe years of losing has just worn him down and the team just goes through the motions, because that’s what it looks like on the field.

PLEASE GO!

I want Carson gone! I agree, he is not a leader. You never see him get in anyones face after a bad ran route, dropped ball, or missed block. He will never be able to lead this team. I do feel that it is not all his fault but a big load of our failures do fall on his shoulders. He does none of the things that you expect a good QB to do. His accuracy these days is horrible, he makes bad decisions, and he never can look off a safety or a db, he just stares down whatever receiver he throws too, HORRIBLE! And since the injuries his arm strength doesn’t even look the same. I say we take a chance on a Andrew Luck or Cam Newton and trade Carson. We then must build a sold line around our new QB and bring in some new coaches to bring a new attitude to this team. REPLY AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK.

diehard fan

and when we do bring in a new QB, new coaches, new OL line and a new attitude it will put us back 5 years. We are dammed if we do and dammed if we dont. Pick your poison.
