Terrell Owens Open To Returning To Cincinnati In 2011

When Terrell Owens came to Cincinnati, he had just come off the worst non-injured season of his NFL career, dipping below 60 receptions and failing to record a 1,000-yard season since 2000. While he spent most of the offseason looking for work, having few visits and even fewer offers, the Bengals were suddenly pressed into a need for a veteran wide receiver with the embarrassment with Antonio Bryant.

No one expected much from Owens this year. He was going to be a big target for Carson Palmer, who was hoping to revamp the passing offense.

Instead, Owens has absolutely exploded this season, on pace to record nearly 95 receptions, 1,329 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns.

Despite having only three receptions for 17 yards in the Thanksgiving night loss to the Jets, which tied a season low for catches and was a season worst for yards, Owens remains second in the AFC in receptions (65) and yards (914). For his career against the Saints he has 61 receptions for 994 yards and 12 touchdowns (tied for most against any opponent). Most of those games were when he was with San Francisco and faced New Orleans twice a year when both were in the NFC West.

Would Owens think about returning to the Bengals next season with his one-year contract expiring after the season?

“Of course. Like I said, when the opportunity presents itself and everything works out. I don’t know what’s going to happen after this year. I think a lot of rumors are swirling out there about everything, coaching staff and I don’t know. I let all that stuff kind of play itself out. My agent and I will get together after the season and see how it goes.”

He continues:

"If you factor in what I've done this year, and obviously with more time and us getting to know each other," Owens said, "you can only imagine what would happen with this year under our belt."

What do you think CJ Nation? Would you welcome Owens back? Or would you rather see 2011 be a rebuilding year with an overall movement towards youth?

Can i answer this after the season if over?

It is still up in the air for me whether I like him enough to be around for another season. Lets see how he reacts to being on such a horrible team for the nest 5 weeks.
I think drafting a WR might be high on Mike Brown’s list this off-season, maybe “Who Dey Julio” Jones?

Yea, I think a WR

Is VERY likely in rounds 1 or 2. A DE is even more likely. I think it would be wise to bring him on board for one/two more years as we groom a young WR to take the place of him and Chad

Well I guess we can chalk Jerome Simpson up as a bust? On a serious note though. I think you draft o-line first round and d-line second round. Make our big free agent splash another offensive line man. Bringing in 2 impact offensive lineman and praying A.Smith gets his shit together than I think we’d be pretty solid. Still a coin toss on Carson for me though. Gotta keep Chad and T.O. around another year.

This quote says to me it us up to who is coaching next year for him to be back or not

i agree Tenn

thats the first thing i thought too when i read that. He wants Brat gone, as i’m sure lots of other players AND FANS do as well.

I’m all for keeping Eldorado, Chad and Palmer for another year under a new OC. Cedric “i pout like a steeler” can take a hike as far as i’m concerned. RBs are a dime a dozen, hall of fame receivers are not

by TruWhoDey on Dec 2, 2010 3:00 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed. He won’t come back unless someone competent is drawing up the plays. And hey, maybe if him and his agent can get into mikey’s ear he’ll consider it.

I think he may be saying this because he doesn’t want to be out of work again next offseason.

He knows that a new coach is either going to bring in a new QB or stick with palmer but rebuild the rest the way he wants.

TO

Im open to it, hell if Palmer didnt have all those red zone interceptions, maybe just maybe TO May have had 3 more TD,s added to his resume. I think I TO was going to blow, he already would have, this team has been horrible and he hasnt said much to cause concern, so maybe he is content knowing this season is what it is.

Yes keep him and Chad for one more year.

I’m a little wishy washy about Carson. I guess in my opinion his destiny should be judged by the remainder of this season. However if we can get a solid offensive line that a decent Quarterback (Carson/draft pick/free agent that’s a whole other debate) than I think this offense is the dangerous one we expected to see this year.

TO is a hired gun

For a team chasing the playoffs. We won’t be chasing anything next year other than the top draft pick. No reason to re-sign him at all.

The other reason is next year will be a rebuilding year with new coaches, new QB, new starting WR’s and some new blood on the line. TO won’t thrive in such a young and inexperienced offense.

by BENGALS69 on Dec 2, 2010 3:02 PM EST reply actions

Let him go

Best for both sides. You quit while you’re a head with a guy like that.

it doesn't matter... there won't be anymore football after this season.

there won’t be a single football game played next year because of the lockout and in 2012 the world is going to end. so all this talk about “next year” isn’t really necessary.

by GrooveLeg on Dec 2, 2010 3:28 PM EST reply actions

It's supposed to end Dec 21st 2012

so there’s a little football going to be played. lol

Wait till the season is over

At this point he was a big help this season in the passing game, and I’m pretty happy with our receivers at this point, so i say keep him, but things might change before the end of the season.

I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.

Man, I am scratching my head here...........

Why would we not want to bring him back. Even with a few lack of effort plays he is still one of the hardest working and enthusiastic guys on the team. This is a logical situation – not an emotional one. This guy has had a great year on a crummy team and has kept his head thru it all. Who do you think we have on this theam to take his place? Please don’t say Simpson or Caldwell or you are looking at a big “child please”. We need OL and DL big time so don’t be talking about taking a WR high either. Whatever some of you are smoking is something I need to get a bag of.

WHY IN THE HELL WOULD WE KEEP T.O. WHEN HAVE A HALL OF FAME GUY ON THE BENCH THE BENCH FROM COASTAL FREAKING CAROLINA!
Seriously though he’s the only thing on this team that’s impressive statistically this year. So if your going off whats on paper this is a no brainer. Re-sign the man for 6 milli.

by JamesShively on Dec 2, 2010 3:51 PM EST reply actions

Keep him and deal The Ocho, I say!

Bring in a good WR in the 2nd round that T.O. can mentor, then extend him all the way into retirement. I understand that the rest of the team situation may be volatile, but just saying we ought to let T.O. go because we’re going to have a new coaching staff is truly throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

by TheWalrus1971 on Dec 2, 2010 5:05 PM EST reply actions

YES

I really hope T.O. comes back. Yes we are having a horrible season, but he is one of the few bright spots we have and he is definitely helping Carson out in the pass game.

by STJ32 on Dec 2, 2010 6:39 PM EST reply actions

I like the production of TO

i would bring him back, the only problem I have is he doesn’t play hard on every single play, especially late. If he played all out every play I’d love to have him back.

by TheCinWin on Dec 2, 2010 6:46 PM EST reply actions

I'd like to have him back

Mainly because it would allow us to avoid wasting more high draft picks on WRs for the next year or two. We need too much other stuff.
