Organization and Coaches were under a T.O effect
In our 3 wins this season TO had a total of 7 catches for 99 yards...So that works out to be 2 catches a game for about 33 yards...In all the other games we lost; if we look back it looks like to me that Carson was trying to force alot of passes into TO. And alot of these were interceptions. I think all the coaches didn't want to hear the TO of old so to silence him Carson tried to throw to him alot. This style of offense is not what this team was built for. I enjoyed all the big games and buzz TO brought to this team but he wasn't the answer we needed. I really feel Antonio Bryant would have better suited this team. I really hope we resign Benson and J-Joe. And let T.O go. Bring in a free-agent receiver who will suit us better and draft AJ Green or Julio Jones who can play with Ocho for a season and will be groomed to be our #1 receiver..Who Dey!

T.O. was not what the team needed, but my suprise yesterday was....
Jerome Simpson, with the time that he played I was mildly surprised with the seperation he was getting; and if a catchable ball was tossed his way he caught it. I don’t think he is a number one guy, but maybe he has more potential than we thought.

simpson
I watched him everyplay. He ran hard every single play. Blocked on every running play. Had good burst off the line. Got in and out of his cuts great. Was deceptive in his routes. And kept his feet in on both catches. AI WANT TO SEE MORE! PLEASE

I think Dunlap confirms for us all...
that someone not getting on the field on this team is NOT indicative t hat they cannot play.

and possibly muckelroy....
Moisture is the essense of wetness, and wetness is the essense of beauty.
apparently the coaches have said
Simpson is far and away the best athlete on the team….which says alot when the 2 guys starting ahead of you are athletic freaks in Chad and TO. Now if we can only get him to double his career stats everygame here on out, he should be well worth the 3 yr wait.

Well the doubling effect probably isn’t possible after about one or maybe two more games, but I’d love it if he can do it for one or both of them… and then keep up high production afterward.
sarcasm friar
but i agree, I’d be fine with a steady increaes in production too ;)

Agree... and Disagree
AGREE – that the TO factor was cause for a ton of changes in our offensive philosophy and yesterday, without TO, and a hobbling Ocho, we went back to what we built last year.. “Bert!!,,, Bert!!,,Run the dang ball!”
The RUN oriented line clearly did a superb job on blocking schemes. And on the offhand occasions they were called upon to block for a pass,,, they did! Heck, they even made Carson “look” like he knew what he was doing!!!
\What was both good and bad was that on 4 occasions in the RED Zone we settled for 4 field goals!! While the new kicker was accurate, his ability to perform kick-offs suck!! And that result will not hold up against the Ravens or Chargers.
DISAGREE – Antonio Bryant – That knee was never good enough for him to perform. It was a total mis-read by the Bengals coaching and medical staff.
"Bratkowski-- Off with his head!!!"
The results of field goals will not hold up against the Ravens
Look at the 1st game of the season against the Ravens 15-10….We kicked all field goals and won the game…
I know...
But the Ravens seem to have broken out of their stupor. If you look at the points scored versus allowed averages per game thru 14 games:
Ravens 23.3 / 18.1.
Bengals 20.1 / 25.9.
That’s about an 11 point swing.
Same comparisons for the last 5 games:
Ravens 25.6 / 17.6
Bengal 21.8 / 31.8
That’s about a 20 point swing..
No, it does not include other factors but I don’t think field-goals will be the difference this time around…
"Bratkowski-- Off with his head!!!"
It shows
That with an effective running game that Defenses dont drop back in coverage to flood all the zones. Caldwell, Simpson, and Shipley all have their heads in the game and are not concerned with TV shows, and in return on the field they are focused to do their jobs. Also it takes the fire off of the line and it allows them to pass block better and in return Carson is able to perform his job like he can. Only once yesterday was there a miscommunication on a pass read and thats to be expected when you dont play much.
Good call, UpState...
I actually was going to write a FanPost about TO. I posted in an earlier article here that I found it interesting that the Bengals ran the ball really well, Carson had no INTs and the other WRs performed well without TO or Ocho.
I really think that both TO and Ocho need to go. Get a Free Agent WR (Vincent Jackson would be nice) and then draft one in the third or fourth round. The first three picks should be DL, S, OL. Steve Smith from NY is also a free agent. Get one of these guys and couple them with Shipley, Caldwell and Gresham and they’ll be fine. The real key will be for them to get a new offensive coordinator though.

Vincent Jackson would be nice but I'm not thinking he's a solution to our problem.
Seems like another ego-centric wide receiver, replacing one with another isn’t a fix. Next!
Joe Reedy: "Supposedly Marvin could not find his flag to challenge the call. I am not kidding. #bengals"
TO needs to go. He brings a bad vibe to every team he´s on.
What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.
I feel like I've been the only one saying this all season long....
Moisture is the essense of wetness, and wetness is the essense of beauty.
i dunno
if i agree that he brings a bad vibe, but he definately brings something….IMO i think he brings unneccesary pressure (speficaly pressure to get him the ball and keep him “happy”). So I guess that could be lumped in w/the bad vibe thing, i dunno
The Curse of Bo Jackson: Jan 13th,1991- present day
I'm sure there's others who have agreed with me
though I’ve felt like everytime I mention something negative about TO, I get bashed and criticized for having some personal biased feelings towards him.
Moisture is the essense of wetness, and wetness is the essense of beauty.
That's probably why.
>Personal Biased
Or at least, you come off as that. Considering that him going out allowed people to see his true effect on at least the offense, people came to agree with you. It wasn’t going to happen prior to that.
Joe Reedy: "Supposedly Marvin could not find his flag to challenge the call. I am not kidding. #bengals"
well I do have a personal bias against him
as I’m sure you’re well aware. But that wasn’t the knock I had on him as a player. I realize I probably come off as very cynical and contradicting, but I viewed TO in three aspects:
1) as a pure player with talent
2) as a teammate with negative chemistry effects
3) as a celebrity/role model
my personal bias was all against him in the latter category since he had effects on young kids and society in general. However, when I criticized him with respect to the second category, my personal bias was irrelevent since I was only concerned with how he rubbed off on the other players (predominantly Palmer). Even in my most relentless attacks on him as a celebrity, I still praised him as a good player and even at times considered him to be a good asset to the team. Though in hindsight, I think my first instincts were correct that he ulimately tore our team down.
But, that’s just my opinion, which I hope people don’t get wrapped up too much in.
Moisture is the essense of wetness, and wetness is the essense of beauty.
Well, with Caldwell, Simpson, and the younger receivers/tight ends.
Carson doesn’t have just one man to stare down. Maybe he’ll do better if he’s forced to throw to the younger players. (?)
Congratulations....
on continuing our fan base’s reputation for blaming its best players (i.e., Chad a few years ago, Adam Dunn, Jason Maxiell, Ken Griffey Jr….and now T.O). You make zero sense.
blaming our best players?
Munoz continues to reside in Cincinnati. Willie still hangs around. Pete Rose never really left. David West has Xavier tattooed on his shoulder. Nick Van Exel would still come back to cincy for the summer league tournament.
Ken Griffey may have been the best athlete to come to cincy, but he never amounted to much while on the Reds.
Moisture is the essense of wetness, and wetness is the essense of beauty.
Corey Dillon was blasted because he's an ass
Chad wanted out of the city, so why cheer for him?
Dunn consistently led the league in SO’s
Maxiell wasn’t hated
Ken Griffey sucked really badly and couldn’t stay healthy.
TO has never given 100% on a play and it shows in the amount of INT’s that were thrown when the ball was coming to him.

Cincinnati likes the players that have a shred of integrity to them, thanks.
Joe Reedy: "Supposedly Marvin could not find his flag to challenge the call. I am not kidding. #bengals"
yes
But Palmer has no one to blame but himself. He is the one that put in a good word for T.O. in pre season.
Palmer gets from MB what Palmer wants and he wanted TO.
TO and Chad are two wide outs that need to go.Neither will go over the middle anymore ,we need new fresh faces that will work within the system and not against it.
Yawn.....

Just an opinion, but the problem is right there.
Bobby Brat’s amazingly impotent two page playbook.
