Bengals Shut Out Of The 2011 NFL Pro Bowl

The 2011 NFL Pro Bowl Rosters have been released.

And the Cincinnati Bengals are shutout during a season in which they're 4-11 at the time the rosters were announced.

The leading vote-getting among all offensive tackles, Andrew Whitworth, was the most likely candidate because he received the most fan votes among all NFL tackles. However, fan votes only equate to one third of the Pro Bowl roster, with players and coaches rounding out the total votes.

In the AFC North, Baltimore is sending five players (Billy Cundiff, Ray Lewis, Haloti Ngata, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs) and the Steelers are sending three (James Harrison, Troy Polamalu, Maurkice Pouncey). Joe Thomas is Cleveland's lone representative.

Here's the original 2011 Pro Bowl roster.

The pro bowl is such a joke these days.

How the hell do guys like Ed Reed, who missed almost half the year, make it?

What about Antonio Gates?

Only played ten games this year.

Though he did have ten touchdowns, so I guess that’s more than enough reason.

This is the third straight year the Bengals weren't announced on the Pro Bowl roster

Chad made the Pro Bowl last year, but as an alternate.

Andrew Whitworth is better than Thomas, Ferguson, and Jake Long, or has been this year.

Farkin’ bullshit this one is.

I do agree that Whitworth was robbed. The Pro Bowl has become to much of a popularity contest now days. Ever notice how many guys make it, but elect not to even go?

That's what I don't understand

The fans voted for whit, and the coaches and players completely ignored that. Normally you’d think the fans would vote on reputation and the coaches would no better, but in this case it was exactly the opposite. Joe Thomas hasn’t had a good year and Jake long is not the best tackle in the afc despite his lofty draft status. Props to the fans though for getting it right

Q: Are you going to essentially fire yourself and hire a general manager?

I know, this is horseshit!!!!

I was thinking Andre Smith would probably get the nod first though…

Just remember… Nick Saban said Andre was a hard worker. He’ll be there next year.

Justin Smith

is this his first probowl? If it is, I’m glad to see him finally get it. But equally pissed off we let him go – along with Steinbach. Arrrghhhh

My question is...

Is Andrew Whitworth like a total dick on the field or something? Am I missing something? Is he grabbing for the Nuts like Shaun Smith? I don’t get gow that dude can be leading the AFC O-Line in popular vote but get so little respect from his peers.

When the dude beats out a guy who had a movie, in popular vote I think he’s doing something right that the fans are noticing.

Hopefully my picture doesn't show my bias.

Wow. I used to think the MLB and NBA all-star games were a joke

I guess when they moved the Pro Bowl to the week before the Super Bowl, the floodgates for the game to hit the MLB and NBA level were opened.

Honestly, I used to watch the Pro Bowl and CARE about what happened in it.

The pro bowl before the super bowl

is just a money ploy and is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. The same goes to the 18 game schedule. As much as I’d love to watch more football, it’s unfair to the players.

What's the point having a fans vote?

Separate the votes. Or better still, let the fans vote until after the Superbowl to have a vote that actually reflects the full season.
