Bengals defensive players: Charting free agency designation, contracts remaining and base pay for 2010
The following is a chart of where the Bengals defensive roster sets up for next season. We take into account the uncapped year in which free agency is dramatically affected, forcing players to have six years of experience before becoming unrestricted free agents -- whereas it used to be four accrued seasons. On the chart, we list all defensive and special teams players, how long their signed for, their free agency designation if applies and what they're expected to earn in base salary in 2010.
Since the chart is rather long, I'm going to force you to click one button. That button is...

Relatively expensive
After going through the list, Geathers and Crocker are at the top of my list for being relatively overpaid for their contribution. A number of non-playing cornerbacks (Mickens and down) are getting paid good bucks for staying on the practice squad.
for sure
but wait until Joseph and Hall are making $4million each per year

Overall we got some great talent locked down for next season.
Add in some key needs (no need to belabor it here) and we can have the best D in the league. We’ll need it too.
Geathers is way overpaid
He’s never lived up to his one good year. I have hopes that Mickens can return to the form that made him a good college player… if so it’s a great gamble to pay him to be on the practice squad. Frostee Rucker isn’t much of a player and doesn’t stay healthy.
They really need to sign JJo and LHall to extensions. Not doing that equals huge failure and step backwards.
Ndukwe is cheap but I think he’s pretty bad as a player. The safeties in general are on of the weaker units!
Looking at that list of players I think the Bengals will have to spend draft picks on defense. There are few stars there! DE is weak too. Frankly Keith Rivers is invisible for a guy drafted where he was drafted.

Draft picks on D
I think that in the first 4 rounds the Bengals have to draft a Safety, probably free, and a DE or SLB who can rush in obvious pass situations. Maybe CB or DT in the later rounds.
