Rant of the Day
Hey Bengal Nation,
This week I got into an lightly heated argument with my brother about Mike Iupati. No, it wasn't about his draft status or anything like that. It was about his name. He claimed he was named one Mike "Lupati", and I claimed Iupati, with an "i" at the beginning. Without instant internet access, we weren't able to check the net and so carried out a debate in which I got thoroughly worked. We both claimed to have double checked the net, but he correctly pointed out that nobody had corrected him on the Jungle and that it was more likely that I was wrong because an upper case "I" was more likely to be confused as an "L" than vice versa. Anyways, I had all but conceded that he was right until we got home and I checked the web. Only a moment after checking the net - I did a river dance, put on a hall of fame jacket, and proposed to a cheerleader later in typical Cincy Bengals celebration fashion - because I was right.
I quickly calmed down because I realized... who cares? But, I noticed a few other people putting down Iupati as "Lupati" so I decided to clear it up once and for all that it was in fact spelled with an "I", not an "L."
Anyways, in order to make this post comment worthy..., with the acquisition of Antonio Bryant, do you think that Mike Iupati is on the top of Marvin Lewis' draft board? He certainly would fit in well with what we need. He's mean, big, and would improve both our pass protection and rushing game. Or do you think a defensive player, say a B. Price, Odrick, or Earl Thomas would be the 1st pick... perhaps taking our D from being very good to elite? Of course, as has been thoroughly discussed, the possibility of drafting TE is still alive, but are there any TE's that would really fit with the C'Nati Bengals? Assuming all player ratings are about equal, who do you think Marvin will take? Regardless, I love that the Bengals are in a position to draft the best player available. Who Dey Baby?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Cincy Jungle's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Cincy Jungle's writers or editors.

Iupati does fill a need for us
especially if Bobbie isn’t resigned, but I don’t know if he’s at the top of our board…in the past we’ve drafted OTs and turned them into guards…like Steinbach and Whit (yeah I know Whit plays OT now, but we drafted him to play G). MB’s unwillingness to pay Steinbach a few years ago makes me think he won’t want to pay a rookie G big money either…
...
You-Potti hasn’t scheduled a workout with the Bengals yet, which leads me to believe Marvin is not that interested in him.
If you don't live like you wanna, you live like you shouldn't
also, they seem to be scouting a number of other guards in the draft. It’s not looking likely that we get him.
This is our year!

I don't think it will exclude us from drafting him...
because its not unheard of for teams to draft guys they haven’t heavily scouted. *disclaimer – this statement is based on my limited knowledge of the draft process.
I wonder where that puts us then… because a lot of the guys talked about on the Jungle seem to be middle round guys.

I don’t dislike Iupati…though I think he’s not the best pass protector in the draft. He’s more of a mauler a-la Bobbie Williams. And I know Bobbie has been really good, but we need a guard who is an excellent pass protector. I don’t think Iupati is our guy. With that said, i wouldn’t be upset if we draft him.
If you don't live like you wanna, you live like you shouldn't
I hope Iupati is around at 21
If not, I think we go defensive line or safety, whichever is BPA.
Slim 15, you will be missed. RIP Chris Henry
