Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Broncos use 1st round tender on Brandon Marshall. Jackson, Floyd, Austin, tendered 1st and 3rd.

So if we want Brandon Marshall here is Mike Brown's chance to do so, it will just cost the Bengals to get him. Will we make a try? I doubt it, but you can keep praying and something good might happen. So I guess this means if we are able to sign him we would give up the 21st pick? Somebody let me know cuz I'm not sure.

Ok here we go: PFT

As a result, Marshall can sign with any team.  The Broncos have a right to match the offer, and if they don't they receive only a first-round pick as compensation.

$2.521 million payday that applies to the first-round tender.

The Broncos also could be willing to trade Marshall's rights for something less than a first-round pick.
Our guess?  Someone with a low first-round pick like the Ravens will sign him to an offer sheet.  Whether the offer sheet contains a poison pill remains to be seen.

Adam Schefter tweeted:

"Come and get him: Broncos placed the first-round tender on WR Brandon Marshall."

"Just as Denver placed 1st-round tender on WR Brandon Marshall, Colts did the same on S Antoine Bethea, a former 6th-round pick. "

The Ravens, Bears, and Titans also seem to have some interest in him, so Mike Brown may have to make a bid for him if he doesn't want to play him twice a year if he goes over to the Ravens (Man that would suck!).

Baltimore Sun:

That means a team could acquire Marshall by giving up a first-round pick as compensation. The San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys protected their restricted wide receivers (Vincent Jackson, Malcom Floyd and Miles Austin) with the highest tenders (which would require first- and third-round picks as compensation).

By only giving Marshall a first-round tender, it might be an indication that the Broncos would be willing to negotiate with teams on a trade. The Ravens, who are looking to upgrade at wide receiver, could be interested.

Seahawks wide receiver Nate Burleson also tweeted this:

"I heard about Brandon Marshall possible coming hear but I won’t believe til I see it. He is a monster though!"

If it only cost the Bengals a 1st rounder...

A.) it would resolve several issues on the offensive side of the ball
B.) they wouldn’t “reach” for a TE in the 1st round (since Pick Twenty-One would be gone) and would, instead, concentrate on developing Coffman or perhaps going through with the (QB-to-) WR-to-TE conversion of Matt Jones.
C.) it would leave us with our 3rd rounder…starting in the 2nd/3rd rounds this year might not be all bad.
D.) We wouldn’t have…yet…another…first…rounder…HOLDOUT!

RE:

A lot of that could be misinformation. And it could be that Tebow is connected with the Bengals after Sam Wyche talked all good about him too.

Yea thats why I said it was a rumor :)

I think I would like to take Pike over Tebow if we do take a QB,

b/c I actually think Pike has what it takes to be a descent QB in the NFL and Tebow is not NFL caliber yet. But in the fourth round, yeah maybe. And the question is, can he put pressure on Palmer? I don’t see it.. Not with MB pulling the strings and he won’t be ready to step up this year. It’ll take “several” years to groom him, like Simpson. That will put Carson in that comfort zone again for the next two to three years.
Also remember, we don’t have a good QB coach. Hopefully that will change.

by WHYUS!! on Mar 3, 2010 8:53 PM EST up reply actions

Tebow isn't big enough to be either TE of FB,

only third down WR/RB. That is why I am against this taking him. At least Pike can sit the bench in place of one of the two backups and can prepare to play when his name is called.
I just don’t want Tebone..Not a good pick for us.

by WHYUS!! on Mar 5, 2010 4:31 PM EST up reply actions

and if we could get him say in 3rd or 4th round

I’m all for a leader like that in my locker room that could possibly play 3 different positions

I’d be willing to offer our 2nd and 3rd to them for Tony and Brandon. Doubt they’d go for it tho.

The big problem with FA this year is that teams just won't be willing to give up picks

Even if it’s realistic, teams won’t want to mortgage their future on RFA with these ridiculous designations. Marshall looks a lot better to US as a 1st round designation, but Mike Brown probably sees that as untenable. Maybe we’ll go after Scheffler or the TE from Chicago, but Owen Daniels is probably a pipe dream. Anyone with a 1st and 3rd is probably a pipe dream.

Marshall and Watson or another solid TE (Olsen or something) would be hugely successful. Adding an offensive lineman or defensive lineman or safety or corner may be too much to ask (of the coveted guys). The Bengals just can’t play with teams like Washington in FA. We don’t have the philosophy or the money for it.

We could all throw in a few bucks and buy a newspaper add like the Vikings did

The Vikings fans bought an add in the paper to reach out to Brett Favre….We could do it for Mike Brown

Am I the only one who thinks Marshal isn’t worth the trouble?

The guy has tremendous talent. But his ego is as big as his talent. We already have someone like that. This really could spell trouble, which is why I doubt will make a move for him.

I’d try to get Jackson.

If you don't live like you wanna, you live like you shouldn't

by trotanoy on Mar 3, 2010 8:12 PM EST reply actions

Jackson may be a fellon and he costs a lot more.

Plus, he could easily be a west coast system player. At least Marshall puts up numbers with crappy Orton.

by jsl413 on Mar 3, 2010 9:44 PM EST up reply actions

I just don't see Marshall working out well here.

He’s a No. 1 guy, but in Chad’s mind, so is 85. Do you want that powder keg lit? Marshall seems like a spoiled brat sometimes who doesn’t seem capable of handling adversity really well. Chad sometimes comes off bratty too but I would say Chad seems genuinely more fun than Marshall. Signing TO would not be as big of an emotional issue. TO would know he is coming in as a No. 2, and the two are friends. I also don’t want to give up a first-round pick in the best draft in 25 years. Marshall is a beast, for sure, but I only see problems with him in stripes.
