Bengals Update 12/27: Bengals To Make A Run For Haynesworth?

Albert-haynesworth-vs

Star-divide

It has been a very slow week in Bengals updates, but I have put together some interesting Bengals stories that may spark your interest, please leave your comments below.

ESPN NFC  East blogger Matt Mosley believes that the Bengals are  potential candidates for trading for Albert Haynesworth. Mosley says that Coach Zimmer  respects Albert Haynesworth's talent as a defensive force and the Bengals lead the league in offering fresh starts for players. Although the Redskins want to trade Haynesworth the Bengals could risk trying to get him at a cheaper price, but there would be a huge market for Haynesworth. Should the Bengals trade for Haynesworth and take on his remaining contract  of 3 years 16 Million with only 9 Million being guaranteed? I believe Haynesworth could make our good D line great. Could you imagine Haynesworth and Peko lining up with Odom/Dunlap/Michael Johnson coming off the edge? This could make our defense elite I would love seeing Hayneworth eat Shonne Green alive.

WalterFootball  in their 2003 Draft Remock believes that Tony Romo should have been the No.1 pick over Carson Palmer

Carlos Dunlap intends to contribute to the pass rush and believes that he does it well , but says that it is not his best attribute, but he is believed to be a potential difference maker for the defense next year.

The Bengals defense needs to be prepared to see the revamped Browns Cleveland Wildcat offense which could now feature Josh Cribbs and Seneca Wallace on the field at the same time.

Jermaine Gresham odds to be the 2010 Offensive Rookie Of The Year are 50-1. These odds aren't unreasonable being that there has never been a tight end that has received the AP Offensive Rookie of The Year Award.

Coach Zimmer's point of emphasis for the Bengals defense next season will be turnovers.

In a year with heated competition at all positions, there is even a kicking war going on  between Mike Nugent and David Rayner. Joe Reedy has  surprisingly called it "one of the more interesting battles of training camp" I'm pulling for the O- State kicking legend who may finally be healthy and may return to form.

The Bengals will add "Family Zone" which will be a ticketed are a I section 347  rows 13 and above in Paul Brown Stadium which will prohibit alcohol and inappropriate beahvior.

DE Antwan Odom has tweeted  that he will return to practice today

There is ZERO chance of Haynesworth wearing Stripes this season..........

The Skins gave Haynesworth a 20,000,000 bonus a few months ago and there is no way that Washington is going to let him go anywhere after paying him all that money and plus Mike Brown guards draft picks like mother’s guard their new borns.

Mike Brown

Everyone uses the draft pick excuse for Mike Brown and I always have to counter with this http://www.ogpaper.com/news/news-01732.html.. if you remember back in ‘08 he tried to trade for another elite DT Shaun Rogers. Whom he offered a 3rd and a 5th for… I know he’s protective of his draft picks, but he did suprise us with the Shaun Rogers trade.. why can’t it be the same for Haynesworth? Plus he loves bargains I think a trade would be more likely.. The Eagles turned down Haynesworth in the Redskins trade, even the Titans don’t want him.. I’d take him in a heartbeat the way 5th rounders were landing players like Santonio Holmes last year they’d probably be happy to trade Haynesworth

by ak513 on May 27, 2010 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

If this was last year I would agree but when players like Santonio, Cromartie are gettin traded for 5th rounders and Brandon Marshall is going for 2nd rounders.. Who knows.. It’ll matter how big the market is for him

by ak513 on May 28, 2010 12:45 AM EDT up reply actions

insane

he is over-paid and over-rated, if we could get him for a 5th or 6th rounder maybe. only good thing that could come out of it is he could step on Big Ben’s head with his cleats.

+1

If he is the best “PERIOD” he sure didn’t show it last year
Plus i’m pretty aware of this guy, being I live here in Tennessee, He is not all he is made out to be I promise. Peko is better then him.

no way

i agree, if we could give up a 5th or 6th then yeah go for it……BUT we don’t need fat albert bringing his cancerous personality and whiny attitude into the jungle. We have enough wild beasts to get to the top this year without having to bring in this guy. IMO he is highly overrated and honestly the only 2 things i ever think of when i hear his name is 1. the face stomp incident, and 2. his grossly overpaid contract…..

it comes down to mind over matter....if you don't mind, it won't matter

Hey Bengals Fans

Just a Panther fan looking to talk some football.
Really i don’t think haynesworth would be worth it, the bengals have taken some shady characters before but i think he’d be a locker room distraction

This year is going to be one heck of a ride! Looking forward to it!!!

by Panther4Life!!! on May 27, 2010 5:44 PM EDT reply actions

Although Haynesworth has talent...

DT is not a position that is a major team need. How about a Safety or back-up QB?

by hachigo! on May 27, 2010 6:47 PM EDT reply actions

Tony Romo?

“WalterFootball in their 2003 Draft Remock believes that Tony Romo should have been the No.1 pick over Carson Palmer. "

I would have taken Palmer over Romo 9999 out of 10000 remock drafts.

by hachigo! on May 27, 2010 6:51 PM EDT reply actions

I agree

I thought walterfootball was joking romo has never played arguably on the level of Peyton manning or Brady, in 05 Carson was there

I'd tale Haynesworth

Bc I am confident that Zim would not take that nonsense and he could get Al’s best output on the field

If Haynesworth is so bad..

Why didn’t we hear any of this stuff back when he was in Tennessee? I never heard all this negative news about Haynesworth until he got to the Redskins..a year ago this is the same guy who was being considered for defensive player of the year. This guy got Antwan Odom a deal with the Bengals. The redskins clearly overpaid him, it’s not like we would be overpaying him. We just signed pacman jones, but we wouldn’t consider haynesworth? Ill ride with Zim on this one if he believes in Haynesworth I believe on him as well..The problem with Haynesworth has been him being injury prone.. I would trade a 4th for him to see what he’s got and I know Zim can get the force he was on the titans who clearly miss him..imagine adding that to a top NFL defense.. But I also understand the counter argument of why we shouldn’t but I’d take the risk

by ak513 on May 27, 2010 8:21 PM EDT reply actions

Umm we did hear this stuff

at least I know I did, Albert didn’t get him a contract with us……his agent did :)
BTW Odom showed why he got a contract after about 2 games last year.
Albert should not come here unless we can get him cheap………….very cheap

Definitely

I defer to the coaching staff on moves like this. For the first time in a long time it seems we can say that as Bengals fans. I think we defer to the coaching staff. If they are serious then they can talk to him and get the answers they need. They then make the decision based off what he says. I think the same thing with players like Lendale White. I made the same comment about him in the Fanpost about him. I defer to the coaches. They can bring these players in or speak to them and see how they answer the tough questions. They made the right choices on players such as Benson and Tank and probably others such as Jones and Jones this year.

I stand behind the decision they make and like John said if the Coaches want him then I do!

Im suprised people arent commenting on WF saying we shouldve drafted Romo Over Palmer

I thought that was one of the dumbest statements ever. Romo wasn’t even drafted and hasnt proved anything..I could see if he had some superbowl rings, but no

by ak513 on May 29, 2010 8:05 AM EDT reply actions

Some things are so stupid that they just don't warrent comment

IMO if Carson had everything that Romo had to work with he would have that ring. Of course that is just my opinion.

"If we always agree, one of us is not necessary"

by JUNGLEJOHN on May 29, 2010 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions

80%, you know that it's 2010

and apparently that means we don’t pick on Mikey Brown, or Bratwurst for any reason whatsoever. And, in case you didn’t get the memo, there’s nothing at all wrong with Carson, so therefore don’t be concerned if JTO’ShitImInAgain has to come out on the field for any reason.

by UpStateMike on May 31, 2010 8:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Word Mike.

I think people are just bored with it..
Mikey Boy Brown, no matter how pissed we have been or still get.. he remains the owner.
Brat, same thing.. no matter how badly we despise his play calls.. he remains the OC.
Carson, jury is still out.. if he wins two rings in the next two years his legacy will be very different. Tough for sure, but we all know anything can happen. Thats why they play the game. Im pretty sure we have covered all angles with these guys. I would suggest its like getting pinched in the same spot over and over again.. after awhile you go numb and dont even notice the pinch. I miss Hue Jackson..

I think you hit the nail on the head there.

With all the bitching we’ve all done over the years about the usual suspects, what else is there to say? I, for one, am just happy to really have a considerable amount to be optimistic about this year – that’s what I’m going to focus my attention on. I’m tired of being pissed about this team, and for once I am very excited for the upcoming year.

by Jaegner on May 31, 2010 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

Plus we SHOULD focus on this year and not the past. We should actually give Mike Brown some credit. Boy thats going to start a war of words. Honestly though, he has put together a good football team. Even if you give the credit to Lewis and Zimmer you still have to give Mike credit for giving them the freedom to bring these players in and to draft these players.

All I’m saying is you can’t hate what Mike Brown has done over the last few years. Hopefully we have turned a corner. I would really give him credit if he signed Lewis to an extension before the season. Does he deserve Blame? Of Course! but he should also get a little credit. Just my opinion. I’m sure I will be attacked on here now, lol.

ESPN's John Clayton On The Bengals D Elite Status

Q: With the addition of Adam Jones and draft picks Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins, can the Bengals’ defense now be regarded as one of the NFL’s elite? Is that enough for them to repeat as AFC North champions?

James in Columbia, S.C.

A: Elite, no. Good, yes. What is lacking is a dominating defensive line. Antwan Odom did a nice job in the first half of last season rushing the passer, but he’s coming off an injury. Except for Tank Johnson, the Bengals lack size at defensive tackle. The exciting part of the defense is the play of their cornerbacks and the speed and tackling ability of their linebackers. To repeat, though, the Bengals must play better. The schedule will be tougher, and the Bengals can’t count on going 6-0 in divisional games like they did last season.

by ak513 on May 31, 2010 12:12 PM EDT reply actions

Depends on how you define Elite...

If you define Elite as it should be then yes. Elite would be regarded as one of the best ever IMO. It is all left to interpretation IMO. I think they could be a top 5 unit again and that would be saying a lot with some of the teams we play. If we still rank in the top 5 I would be very happy. Would you consider that Elite? I probably wouldn’t. In my mind Elite is reserved for Teams, Players, or Units that are the best of all time. I don’t see this unit as being up there with the best of all time. I believe it can be the best in the NFL this year, if they play good. That being said I kinda agree with him there. I can’t argue IF, and only IF, this is the definition of Elite.

by C1ncy4Life on Jun 6, 2010 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh and by the way....

I love this Defense and that was not a knock against this Defense at all. I think we have a VERY Good defense. I am just cautious with the word Elite.

by C1ncy4Life on Jun 6, 2010 8:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Just give Palmer time and watch him go to work...

WF can get bent! I believe in Palmer. He’s gonna be great this year and pick teams apart. Tony Romo is In Touch magazine and Carson Palmer is Time magazine. Palmer will always out class him.
