Snag Or Pass: Lendale White

54008947_medium

Star-divide

As all of you probably heard yesterday, Lendale White was cut from the Seattle Seahawks rumored to be because of a failed drug test which as a result  will have White serving a 4 game suspension. Once a standout counterpart to USC phenom Reggie Bush, White has struggled with weight and alcohol problems.. After being added to  the Seahawks Lendale dropped to 219 lbs. Lendale was overshadowed by Chris "Every Coaches Dream" Johnson last season  and was not able to return to his  2007 stats where he rushed for 1110 yards and 7 TDs and 2008 stats where he tandemed with Chris Johnson piling up 773 yards and 15 TDS.The Bengals are said to be in the market for a running back and clearly are infatuated with USC players, but Lendale has a ton of baggage clearly if his own college coach has given up on him should we even consider signing him?  Please vote and leave your comments below. Thank you

Honestly this could be the "bell cow" back everyone is hollering for

I will defer to the coaching staff on this. I would be happy if they signed him but he has had some times where he has said things in the media that I didn’t quite like. I like Cedric Peerman more than most people and I think he can be a very good RB should Benson go down. However it wouldn’t hurt to bring in a guy like White for competition IF the coaches speak to him and he is willing to do what all the other guys they bring in are willing to do. Keep their mouth shut, work hard, realize nothing is promised to them, and sacrifice whatever the team asks for. This is why I am deferring to the coaching staff. They can look him in the eyes and ask the tough questions and see how he responds.

I guess what I’m saying is I think they should explore it BUT only if they get the positive vibes they have from players they have signed in the past.

his four game ban

gives us time to get him into shape and he becomes our back-up bell cow back for Benson.

i doubt it happens but Brown might use him as leverage against Benson’s contract demands (ie use the fact they signed White as a sign the don’t need Benson so he should lower his demands etc)

If we sign White...

it will play into the do we keep 6 or 7 WR’s conversations that rears it’s ugly head on every post on the blog. MY INTENTIONS ARE NOT TO START THAT CONVERSATION AGAIN HERE. But if we keep 4 RBs then no way we keep 7 WRs.

If it comes down to White or Leonard, I vote Leonard hands down. If it comes down to White Vs. Briscoe/Cosby/Simpson/Caldwell, well then I will have to consider adding White and hoping either Briscoe or Cosby clear waivers.

This whole thing has MB written all over it. Sign at veterans minimum with conduct and release clasues…sound familiar to anyone? Don’t be suprised if he works out for the coaching staff next week.

I think you guys should pass

He might be suspended for 4 games, and is known for being lazy and unhealthy. These two things are a major reason why he was benched for C-J in 2008.

Thats why I say we defer to the coaching staff

They seem to make good choices with what players to give a second chance. If they bring him in and truly believe he will work hard and keep his mouth shut then yea see what he can do behind our line. I would let him know that his spot is far from certain and that it is very likely he wouldn’t even make our team.

Hopefully the Bengals PASS on Lendale White.........because for starters he is......

suspended for the first 4 for violating some rules. The thing that really bothers me is that Pete Carrol passed on him after they spent a draft pick to get him to Seattle. Everyone knows that Pete is a players coach….and if white can’t play for Pete…..i do not see another coach being able to get anything out of him. I know that the Bengal are still in the market for another RB who can be a workhorse for a game or two but they should wait and see who does not make the Redskins roster because they have about 3-4 RB on their roster and they will probably only keep 2-3 max. Look foe Willie Parker to be released from Washington about half way through training camp.

PASS

Honestly, I’m surprised this would even come up. Mike Brown-style “redemption” / bargain-hunting made some sense with Matt Jones given the deficiencies in the passing game, and even with Adam Jones thanks to lack of depth in the secondary behind Joseph and Hall. But RB…? I’m hard pressed to think of a position at which we are better set for depth. On a 53-man roster, if we carry 4 RB’s plus a FB, we’re probably too thin somewhere else. And even if Benson should go down with an injury, there will probably be some non-suspended veteran free agent who can be picked up at the time. I seem to recall that happening last year…

Props for the Towel Degreding Stomps

But, Pass for the 2010 season. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him get a chance next offseason, if he doesn’t get grabbed, but that’s a long shot as well.

Thank you

I think the Coaching staff have proven to me that they seem to make the right choices more often then not! Just my opinion.

We've done better with less

And while not ideal, he’d add some nice depth.

I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.

I say pass

Not because he wouldn’t be a good pickup but because he probably won’t see the field. If Benson misses games there are several FA guys out there who we can get.

I lean that way.

I think we have better RB’s then people realize. I am pretty high on Cedric Peerman also. I also agree that we can always sign a street FA if Benson goes down. In that case Scott should see most of the carries and you can mix in Leonard with a few. Scott can definitely handle the load for a few games. I wouldn’t be worried about handing to him 20 times for a few games. I may not like it for an entire season but I think he proved he can get the yards if needed. I also think his injury wouldn’t have cost him as much if we hadn’t signed Larry Johnson. If we didn’t have such a capable backup I believe he woulda got the starts.

I still defer to the Coaches on players and situations like this. They can see what type of shape he is in and let him know what his role is. They can see how he reacts to that and then make the decision. I just think we are more set at RB then a lot of people do.

I say pass

He’ll want starter money as well.

My 2010 Sports wishlist.
1. Thanks for putting the Reds in first place in May, but unless they're playing like this in October, I'm still on the fence about Dusty.
2. Cavaliers Championship...never mind...Let's go with OSU wining the Big Ten.
3. Bengals win Super Bowl XLV

by Danimal, Destroyer of Worlds on Jun 2, 2010 12:23 PM EDT reply actions

He will want too much anyway

Maybe if there isn’t anybody interested he will come down but I definitely wouldn’t give him anything but league minimum.

by C1ncy4Life on Jun 5, 2010 8:07 AM EDT up reply actions

I think we are more likely to sign him next year...

When he has had a year away from football and is on the cheap… No seriously I really think that

+1, spot on

Ced will be due for a new contract and will probably want big money.
