UPDATE: Bengals Signing Gibril Wilson is "Greater Than 50%" Likely

Even though Pacman Jones is getting all the publicity, the Bengals also brought in veteran safety Gibril Wilson for workout on Tuesday. Geoff Hobson writes that Wilson has "started 80 games for three clubs since the Giants drafted him in the fifth round out of Tennessee in 2004."

Last year, the Miami Dolphins signed Wilson to a five-year contract worth $27.5 million with $8 million guaranteed. He was scheduled to make $12 million over the first two years and $16.5 million during the first three years on the contract. He was released on March 5, 2010. Even more, Wilson signed a six-year deal worth $39 million with the Oakland Raiders.

Trend here is that Wilson signed a massive contract and was released the following season in 2008 and 2009.

UPDATE: PFT writes that there's a "greater than 50 percent" chance that the Bengals sign Wilson. According to Mike Florio, no aggreement has ben reached but it seems very likely to happen soon.

I’ll give him a mulligan on the Raiders deal….same thing happened to Deangelo Hall. I think Crazy Al just hands FA’s blank checks.

As for being released this season, a lot of teams seem be taking advantage of the lack of a cap.

(I’m rather surprised no team has went off the deep end and dropped like $250 Million in contracts like one “Mistake on the Lake” did a couple years back. The reality this offseason has been saving as opposed to spending….though Draft pick contracts haven’t picked up, yet.)

I think the owners are afraid of a lockout

Potentially they won’t be making as much money next year (far as I know they will still receive the money for TV contracts but I’m not sure) so they are being somewhat conservative. I have also heard talk that when a deal is put in place, they may retro act a cap and make teams pay a luxury if going over, this year. This however was said to be unlikely. The point is basically that they are afraid of what may happen that most owners are being conservative. I agree though. I would take a chance and re do JJO and Hall’s contracts and front load both of them for this year. This way we can ensure they are both signed for say IDK 4 more years atleast. I would take the risk and go for it, personally.

they sign him for a reasonable price. His production is solid and he knows what it takes to win a super bowl from his time with the Giants.

after florio's past couple of stories about bengals

i really want to print out anything else he writes about the bengals, wipe my ass on it, and snail mail it to him.

OK< now he has something real to write about now.

The Pacman cometh. He’s the NFL badboy for sure.

Now we have to live with the jokes about him and that we’re back to being the Cincy Criminals.

Whateva. Now lets just go play football. At least we’re a solid team and no longer the Bungles. I hate that name.

I love that UpState

We are being disrespected all thru the football media anyway. Pile it on. It just feeds into Mike Zimmers we don’t get respect – nobody wants you – we are gonna have to show em motivational ploy.

Florio is the Jim Rome of the internet. They are legends in their own mind. Over rated blow hards with emphasis on the blow.

You want to shut Jim Rome up – just say Jim Everett – he made Rome scream like a little girl..
