Welcome Aboard, Gibril Wilson
The speculation about the Cincinnati Bengals signing safety Gibril Wilson has ended, thanks to the Twitter account of agent Alvin Keels, also the agent of Andre Smith. Wilson's signing is just another move made to strengthen the Bengals' secondary.
While the Chris Crockers, Roy Williams and Chinedum Ndukwes of the world are expected to earn the biggest chunks of playing time, the addition of Wilson, previously of the Miami Dolphins, gives Mike Zimmer even more depth to work with.
Interestingly enough, Wilson's Wikipedia page has already been updated to reflect his new team; well, at least the right column has. The entry still lists him as a free agent. Oh well, that's nothing a quick edit can't rectify.

really like this signing, deepens the secondary, good job Bengals
Does this make people feel better about the draft?
3 yards and a pile of dust
btw, i love the draft regardless, but was curious if the “we didn’t draft a safety thus the 2010 draft was terrible” CJ members feel any better now

They should
I was trying to calm everyone down on draft day. I was one that was upset when they didn’t take one in the 5th. Then I changed my mind very quickly. I decided that the Bengals must have a backup plan and that we should trust Zimmer. Looks like we have depth and can now get by another year at Safety. I still look for them to look at the long term future of the position next year during the draft but, the right players has to be where we pick.
Wilson is a lot like Williams.
He doesn’t really cover and he’ll be good SS depth. I hope and think that Ghee will be our FS depth, and I hope Crocker can stay healthy.
ewwwwwwww, we got competition now
Let’s sign Jones and Thurman now. Humble guys…….
No more backups for backups, we’ll have starters for backups, sounds good to me.
I just wish this was so for all positions.
SB, here we come!
Overpaid and underperformed
We got him at league min with incentives but he’s been overpaid and has done nothing for most of his career due to one good year with the Giants..
not going to be a starter here
as long as he was cheap, its depth for safety which we didn’t get in the draft. he doesn’t have a rap sheet a mile long either.
hope he sticks on the team.

+1
He should also be a good leader in the locker room. From what I know he is never been in trouble and is a solid Safety. Good for depth. Definite upgrade over Tom Nelson.
he had more than one good year for us
he was a very good safety for us James, the reason we didn’t re-sign him is we couldn’t match the absurd contract that Al D offered him. FO wanted him to stay a Giant, but we didn’t have the money under the cap to do it.
he had 365 tackles for big blue in 4 seasons, avg. about 7 tackles a game. he’s a tackling machine. his only year on the Raiders he was second on the team in tackles with 134 behind kirk morrison. when playing in the box and blitzing off the corner he’s a threat to the QB’s health…he had 6 sacks his first 2 years with us. he’s had at least 2 picks every year except last, and only one down season since he came in the league. So unless his skills have vastly eroded since his last season with Oak., i think you got you a good guy in the secondary. if i were your DC, i’d put him back where he belongs – SS.
I would believe he's there to backup Roy W
Roy is a punisher too, but I[m worried about his forearm giving him continued problems.
yeah i know Roy's game
saw him his 1st few seasons when he was a Cowboy. We miss him back there, he was always good to pick on! hehehehe, but maybe you guy’s have gotten a new and improved Roy Williams now, i hold no ill will against him now that he’s not a Cowgirl.
Whatever you do decide to do with Gibril, it was a great signing for you guys. i was lobbying over at Big Blue View to bring him back to NY, before we signed Deon Grant and drafted another safety. how we look at Kenny Philips now, that’s how we used to look at G-Dub.
Pac Man In The Fold..

The long-gestating deal between the Bengals and Pacman Jones PFT first reported on Tuesday is finally complete.
NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports Pacman will sign a two-year contract deal for the veteran’s minimum salary. Jones can earn more in incentives.
The Bengals won’t officially file the transaction until Monday, when they also announce the arrival of safety Gibril Wilson.
Wilson has an outside chance to start at free safety, while Jones will be fighting just
Vetern's min. for both
My guess is that Ken Hamlin felt insulted with that offer and left town.. Question is did he leave town with a demand from other teams for his services?
Good Luck Gibril but I'd be worried cincy
He was AWFUL in Miami. He single handedly missed tackles that led to long scores and completely was not good in coverage. We paid him alot of money but I feel more comfortable with having nobody now then him still start
Laces out!

Suck it Pats, Bills and most of all... the god damn jets.
Sean Smith/Vontae Davis= Pat Surtain/Sam Madison
BRANDON MARSHALL- FUTURE MIAMI HOF WR!!!!!
Wilson....
is graded out to be the 15th best safety in the league, our best safety, graded out to be 34th in the league and we are just paying Wilson just above the league min,he wasnt very good the 1st 3 games, but rebounded to have a good season and plus hes not injury prone,i think this is a very good signing.
he's more of a run-stopper then a ball hawk
he’ll put up a good amount of tackles because he does attack the ball on the ground but he is suprisingly a sub-par tackler at best because he’s not that big of a guy. He would fare better at SS IMO but I’m not sure how comfortable you are with your other safety. Miami’s problem is that Gerbil (as we call him) played with Bell last year who’s pretty much the same type of player (but better) and we had essentially 2 tacklers and nobody truly gifted in coverage.

Welcome Aboard!
I think I can get behind this signing, even if the Adam Jones signing is a bit dubious.
This is our year!
+1
did you see what he did for the Titans against the Jags, hes a beast if hes got his head right, and he can be a great 3rd corner,Trent played terrible down the stretch.
Trent was a rookie. He has skills and talent to be very good with experience.
Hall wasn’t that good his rookie year either if you remember. He bit on double moves like a bum on a baloney sandwich.

This Team Has Competition...
in every position but one,and look who just got released today from the Raiders, why not give Carson some competition with Russell and make it a complete competition in every position?
Not really any RB competition
And I’d love to see some, although I’m happy with the 3-headed dragon at the same time.
Jake..
they have a sleeper in the RB competition if they get him in here under contract and that the Coker kid from Tenn & Hampton, hes a beast,if they give the kid a legit shot, your gonna see jaws drop and eyes roll, can you say 4.22 in the 40? shewww
More On The Wilson Signing...
The scouting report on Wilson is that he is a great run stopper with average coverage skills in two-deep. He also has good form tackling and is pretty good as a pass rusher. ProFootballFocus, which grades players, had him struggling at the beginning of the season (he graded poorly in the first three) before rebounding and playing better late in the season. His season-ending grade of 2.0 ranked 15th among safeties. The top-ranked Bengals safety last year was Chinedum Ndukwe (34th, -0.8).
I like this signing and the offseason in general
I was a little deflated that the Bengals never made a serious play at Brandon Marshall, but I like the Antonio Bryant signing, the Jermaine Gresham draft pick, and the Shipley draft pick as well.
I’m also pleasantly suprised that the Bengals haven’t rested on their laurels with their defense from last year. As we all know, defenses can fall off quickly in the NFL (see Tennessee last year) and I think it will serve the team well signing multiple defenders in the secondary and drafting good pass-rush prospects in the draft. Bengals should have a very good and very deep defense again next year.
WHO DEY!
Hi fans it Brandon Roy.
And ME.....LaMarcus Aldridge
I think Marvin has
has had a hand in personnel decisions. I’m liking the ‘09 and ’10 drafts. I really like the FA pickups we’ve made too.

Keep adding depth
I think this team is being built for the playoffs. Every spot has some very capable back-ups. Every year the teams get knocked out of the playoffs due to key injuries. The Bengals can pretty much cover almost any injury that may occour. Solid strategy.
This team can take a hit at any position and still make a solid post season run
You take Palmer out of the equation and that’s a different story. There’s no covering for that loss.
I would feel better if we made a run at a vet like Garcia.
JTO and Jordan are worthless.

I love picking up Wilson
Anybody else think a player like this can excel behind Leon Hall and Jonathon Joseph? I can’t wait to see what he’ll do
With Zimmer he will be a very good pickup
Don’t be surprised if he starts. Zimmer will get the best out of him as he does most of his players. We are DEEP on defense. Lets get this season started already.
