Let Me in on Some of That Sweet Action Part Two: Over Under

Sports betting is good old American fun.

The Bengals odds to win the Super Bowl are still 30/1. That hasn't changed since Part One. Now, Bodog.com has come out with an over under for each team to win a certain amount of games. For the Bengals, the bet is for over or under eight wins.

First, if you don't know, let me explain how the odds work. If you already know, go ahead and skip down to the next paragraph. The American sports betting system is built to let you know how much money you will risk to win $100. If the odds are -110, it means that in order to win $100, you would need to bet $110. If you win at those odds, you would get the $100 plus the $110 that you bet. When you are betting on an underdog, the odds are positive. If your team is the underdog and the odds of the winning are +240, it means you would have to bet $100 to win $240. If the underdogs win, you would get your original bet of $100 plus the $240. So, there you go. On to the Bengals odds.

The Bengals odds to go over .500 are +105 which means if you bet on the Bengals to win more than eight games, in order to win $105 you would need to bet $100. On the other hand, if you were a jerk and wanted to bet that the Bengals are going to lose more than eight games, the odds are -135. That means if you wanted to win $100 you would have to bet $135.

Eh. These odds aren't too bad. I would like to see that plus sign in front of the over switch places with the negative sign in front of the under. It could be worse. Much much worse. The Browns over under is for five and a half games (-115 on both), the Raiders over under is for six games (-115 for both) and the Lions over under is for five games (-114o/+110u). It could be better though. The Ravens over under is for 10 games (-120o/-110u) and the Steelers over under is for is for eight and a half games (-130o/EVENu).

I'm not saying that you should do what I'm going to do (you definitely should) but I'm going to bet on the Bengals to win over eight games (do it!). I personally think it's a smart bet, tough schedule and all. Of course, if all of my bets were smart bets, I'd be a rich man. I have a feeling about this one though.

From what I read

The odds of winning the division are +400. I’m thinking of taking some of that action.

RIP Slim.

If that's right

then that’s the bet right there.

It turns out I overestimated my apathy, but not enough to matter.

When I was in Vegas

2 months ago I was in Vegas and the odds of the Bengals winning the Superbowl at that moment was 50:1. So my dad, brother and I each threw down some money. Couldn’t pass that up. Who Dey!
