Room for T.O.?

Can someone please explain to me why the Bengals are looking into T.O.? I understand he would be a great physical wideout but the last time I checked the Bengals are pretty stacked at WR in Ocho, Bryant, Shippley, Caldwell and even Simpson, Jones and Briscoe. Cincinnati Bengals roster. I know that T.O. would make a great substitution IF Bryant went down due to injury but we all know T.O. isn't going to ride the pine until that happens. Instead of wasting their money on another WR why don't the Bengals spend it on a position they actually need, like a Safety or Kicker because I'm not putting my money on Nugent or Rayner making a FG thats over 40 yds. But if worse comes to worse we could always see this guy kicking again...

I would bet my signed Chris Sabo baseball that Antonio Bryant gets put on the PUP to start the year. If that’s the case, then this is a great move, but the question still remains what do we do when Bryant comes back healthy midseason?

This is our year!

While I would take that bet to get a Chis Sabo signed baseball

I completely agree and will not put anything up against it with out at least 10-1 odds, how about my unsigned Lebron James Cavs jersey to your Chris Sabo signed ball?

Well I suppose the Lebron jersey is now a relic (too soon?)…

I almost got Chris Sabo's autograph...

on his rookie card just before his second year. I was at the Royals spring training camp in Florida (place called Boardwalk and Baseball) when I was a teenager. I was next to get his autograph but he didn’t sign anymore… needless to say I was disappointed, but I was also pretty disappointed with his play the year after his rookie year.

by Oregonbengalsfan on Jul 26, 2010 7:03 PM EDT up reply actions

haha. A friend got the autograph for me when I was about 7. I just wish I could get a pair of those famous goggles signed. Now that would be cool.

Sabo is a dick..

He was at a charity event where people was giving what ever they could and they would get a autograph buy Sabo. I put $10 in the bucket in front of him and he got real nasty with me and called be a big spender (sarcastically). I was just 19 years old and was struggling at the time and told him that. His reply was, get a better job and he LOL. I told him, to get a better drunk wife, for she was slobbering drunk behind him making an ass out of herself and he can shove his autogragh up his ass.

Early to say, but...

I would say it is atleast a possibility. They seem to think we are close this year, and I for one am glad they are doing everything possible to make this team better and to try to make a playoff run.

TO upsides

I’m not gonna dwell on the negative waves, man.

Plusses.

TO can still play this game at a high level.
TO is buddies with Chad. They can keep each other in check.
TO needs the Bengals as much as the Bengals need him.
TO does really well when he has good QB’s that can get one placed to him.
TO understands his career is close to coming to an end. He doesn’t have time to be a pain in the ass.
TO had decent game last year. It’s hard to shine when you QB gets rushed and pummeled about 45% of all passing plays.
TO takes more heat off of the Chad than any other WR we have (assuming Bryant is not going to play).
TO is an insurance player.
If Bryant come back, can you imagine Chad, Bryant, TO, Shipley, Gresham all being targeted by Carson? TO doesn’t have to always be the burner.

TO wants to win a ring, and can contribute to it.

by jim0ijk on Jul 26, 2010 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

What's really going on?

Perhaps the Bengals are considering placing Bryant on IR? Plus other WR concerns? Something pretty serious must be occurring behind the scenes for TO to come back into the picture. Or.. maybe they just really want to make that Super Bowl run, and they feel that this could be their best possible year to win it. Even the Defense may be different next year. So that could play a part in this, as well. Who will we retain on THAT side of the ball next season?

by justRick on Jul 26, 2010 4:34 PM EDT reply actions

He's better than those guys..

Shipley, Caldwell,Simpson, Jones and Briscoe are not as good and that’s the bottom line.. Bryant arguably may not be as good.. Bottom line is talent and this is upgrading..

Room for T.O.?

It would be the smartest , no brainer football decision made this offseason. T.O. is still a big receiver that all great QB’s cherish. Given the much improved running game , having T.O. as a threat would give any team reason to pause. The Bengals would officially be elite status with T.O. on the field.
You doubters will all regret your fearful thoughts when the Bengals win 12 games and dominate the division.

by Black Moses on Jul 26, 2010 5:39 PM EDT reply actions

I think Chad would be good for TO.

Instead of actual problem-causing things that tear up the locker room, Chad would help TO stay more focused on meaningless little games.

Besides, how much ego can be left in TO after having so much trouble getting onto a team this offseason?

He had a lot of ego to spare, so there could still be quite a bit.

Backup QB

What’s next, we gonna sign that turd Favre as a backup?

it comes down to mind over matter....if you don't mind, it won't matter

years left in the tank

I bet T.O. has another 2-3 years left in the tank….and if he produces I bet we keep him for those 2-3yrs or atleast 1-2

by TruWhoDey on Jul 26, 2010 6:13 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe that's enough to keep Chad around..

Can we get them both to retire in stripes.. and if we win a Championship does T.O. go to the Hall of Fame representing Cincinnati?

As an Eagles fan

I want to preface this by saying I think TO is a scum sucking human being who I hope him and his dill-weed agent die in a burning building at the bottom of the ocean while being eaten by termites. But I think this would be a good move for the Bengals should the price be right (gotta set precedent, and the Bengals are holding all the cards here). He isn’t a problem until the second year or later. No matter where he has gone, that’s been his MO. First year is a dream, the fans put stock in him, then he turns on everyone who started to trust him. Let his stay be short and sweet. Next year there are big cap concerns, a one year rental of TO would be good for business.

It turns out I overestimated my apathy, but not enough to matter.

well said

one year rental is all we’re lookin for.

as bengal fans, we know how quickly things can be taken away therefore we really know when we have a shot to do something special.

just saw on ESPN

that the jets are now interested in TO, the jets have already signed basically every big name FA this season so i wouldnt rule TO out either

Heres My Take On T O Reasoning...

The Bengals are afraid the knee isnt fully healed yet, listening to the reports,Bryant didnt rehab much,he let it heal on its own,and worked out light, since mini camp the Bengals visited Bryant in Az and said knee is coming along fine, but, not one time did they say hes a 100%,and when you hear from mini camp he looks “lukewarm” and couldnt go at the end when theirs no live hitting or pads the knee needed rest, red flags started popping up all over the place, why did they go to AZ to check the knee out if it only needed rest? You know Mike Brown wouldnt put money up for a specialist to travel all the way to AZ to check out a player after mini camp if something wasnt a concern, and then all of a sudden T O camp is contacted just a week after the visit to AZ,now guys,it dont take a rocket scientist to figure out whats going on here,Bryants knee isnt able yet to withstand the rigorous work for training camp, pure and simple, they are bringing T O in as insurance,if Bryant cant make it thru mini camp,he wont make it thru training camp where theirs live hitting and pads,Bengals know this, and if you look at the roster, you dont have a player ready to step in as a #2 WR plan B,T O comes in on a 1yr contract to season the rookie WRs and goes in as the #2,if Bryant is able to go,he goes to the slot,if he cant make it thru training camp,he goes to the PUP to fully rehab the knee,as you can see, T O is the insurance policy for plan B.

Lets not forget....

Reportedly Carson wanted this signing to happen. I believe Carson has more pull in the FO then people may want to believe. I would also say that most in the organization feel this is a year that they can make a serious Playoff run and we may not be able to sign some of the players on D (Lets hope it gets done).
