The Bengals like to waste money on wide receivers, but it's ridiculous if they don't get Owens at a discount. The team burnt $10 million on Laveranues Coles last year and invested huge money into Antonio Bryant, who the Bengals coaching staff now feels "lukewarm" about according Adam Schefter.
Paying Owens over $5 million would be throwing good money after bad.

I think we probably gave hime a "Pawn Star" offer...
They’re probably offering half his asking price.. $2.5 -3 million
Pawn Star
I love Pawn Star. Mike Brown would make a “Pawn Star” offer. LOL.

could we not dignify pft by referring to it as nbc sports? florio’s got a healthy diet of haterade over there.
i'm going to go america all over your ass!
It’s like he’s completely ignored the Bengals’ strong tradition of championships and exemplary behavior. I hear the Raiders get it pretty hard over at PFT, too. Completely unfounded.
i’m not saying it’s unfounded; i’m not that big a homer, at least i don’t think i am. i’m just saying they tend to go overboard where the bengals are involved, particularly florio, and considering the nature of the site, i don’t think it’s a good idea to link them as a credible news organization, although i know nbc does own them now. plus, most of his knocks against the bengals are pretty dated; i don’t care if he’s going to knock the team, he just needs to be a bit better at it.

No, I know the jabs are getting tired, but there seems to be an incessant whining on this blog about the Bengals not getting a fair shake in the media. My question is: What have they done to reverse this trend? Does signing Pacman Jones or Matt Jones help? Does giving Coles and Bryant 7 million a year help? 2 playoff berths and zero playoff wins isn’t going to make us media darlings. There’s such a long history of ineptitude and shaky personel decisions to overcome. It’s pretty simple. Keep winning and perceptions will eventually change.
i agree with you there, and as i said, my beef is with florio specifically because most others in the mainstream media do a pretty good job of presenting cogent arguments for their doubts about the bengals; i just tend to disagree with them. it’s been quite a while since i’ve visited the site, so i’m sorry if i revisited an annoying meme; not my intention.
now, do i believe that the team is making the steps necessary toward changing their public image in the long term? absolutely, but just as with a recovering alcoholic, i take it one day at a time and i always try to keep my faith in the team grounded, because we bengals fans are sort of bred to expect a backslide.

Haha… That’s some funny shit. Sad but a little true. But seriously, we all make a Lavernamistake every once in awhile. I don’t think we are known for throwing away money on receivers like the raiders throw money away on receivers. Now defense…..

RE:
I agree. T.O.‘s “lack of interest” comes with unnamed teams via PFT (which is via Rosenhaus, I’m sure). So the question for T.O. is, what other deal are you going to get to be on a competitive team?
However, did the Bengals tip their hand, ala Bryant’s troubled knee?

Does it matter if they "tipped their hand"?
Owens only had one other team(the Rams) seriously considering him. And as of yesterday, they allegedly rescinded their interest. Even if the Bengals are “Luke-warm” on Bryant, it doesn’t necessarilly mean they are desperate for another WR. Consider the following:
OchoCinco continues to be the most reliable receiver on the team.
Caldwell has supposedly progressed a lot this off-season.
Shipley has performed above the coaches expectations.
Gresham has been… well, the first round player we have hoped he’d be so far.
We have two dark horses in Simpson and Briscoe.
Add in that a “luke-warm” Bryant doesn’t necessarily mean an unusable Bryant.
You consider all of those things, and Owens doesn’t really have much negotiating power. He also gets a chance to play with Chad on a playoff contending team with a strong run game… which should mean less coverage on him. It’s a pretty good scenario, although not necessarily the most financially rewarding option that he might be offered.

Why not?
We haven’t been to the playoffs for back to back season in twenty some years, The passing game needs a major upgrade to keep pace in the North and Bryant sounds like a big question mark at this point. If it doesn’t work it will just be chalked up as the Bengals being the Bengals, but if it does work….
Still not a crook!
