Anyone remember Gresham saying this?
"I can't afford to sit out even a little bit," Gresham said. "There's the slots, they'll pay the slots, whatever I get is what I get. I play the game because I love it, not because of money. Hopefully where I got picked will help me so that it's enough to help my family. I'm not greedy."
Could this just be a coached agent statement or is this genuine? I hope genuine is the case and this mean's he's going to sign before camp. You would think they'd at least offer the slotted deal with the correct percentage increase from last year's slot to make it happen..Being he's in the lower half of the first round one would think they wouldn't mind doing that... However there is always surprises this is in fact the Cincinnati Bengals front office.. Get the man signed already dammit..

i mean in his defense
the slotting system means nothing if only 2 picks from round one have been signed. once they start though, it’ll go real quick.
RIP Slim.
Well they could make an offer...
They would just have to add a percentage increase based on last year’s number 21 pick… And if he was genuine with his statement he would sign that offer…

yes but will his agent?

RE: James
True. But they would run the risk that the percentage increase would be less than what the 22nd pick would get which would screw Gresham. And if the money is more than what the 20th pick got, then that would screw the Bengals.
No real solution until other picks start signing to stay in league with the slotting system.

Unless they want to try to set the slotting system in their area.

you have to think this can’t take very long. srsly, they spent all day monday and tuesday trying to lock down TO, and they spent half of yesterday and all day today getting Muckelroy, Shipley and Dunlap signed.
At #21, they can’t be that far off in the negotiations. If i recall, Leon Hall – picked what, #18? – missed not even a day, James.
But i’m glad you brought it up. Lost in all the hype is the finalizing of rookie contracts. I think it will be signed tomorrow… Friday at worse. i’m sure Gresham was genuine with those comments, but the agents are the real problem. i hate agents….
did anyone hear that we signed TO??
3 yards and a pile of dust
RE:
The newest T.O. news is that he has bought the number 81 from Bryant and Bryant donated a large part of that money to a charity in Miami.. I hope no one went out and bought a Bryant Jersey yet..

The love of the game is genuine
but there are only two people in the NFL who can be relied on to look out for Jermaine Gresham’s financial future: Gresham, and his agent. This is a business for him now; one that only lasts for 15-16 years at best. For his sake, he’d better be a great businessman and pay close attention to the bottom line. It’s not politically correct for him to say that, so he keeps it diplomatic.
For my part, I love following the NFL, which is what makes the league and the Bengals franchise their money. So who do I want most of that money going to? Mike Brown? Or guys like Gresham? I won’t judge him for negotiating in the way he thinks wisest.
Brandone is absolutely right
This is the system. The Bengals have, and probably will always wait for the slotting system to play out. Blame the Bengals if you want for (perhaps) not being aggressive to set the slotting system in their neighborhood.
Here’s the reality, as of right now, 30… let me say that again with bold and italics… 30 first round draft picks remain unsigned.
This one is NOT on Gresham.

+1
When 1st and 2nd rounders don’t even begin to negotiate until a day or two before camp starts, it shows how broken the system is.

Pay the Man!
Using Deion Sanders’ favorite saying, just sign Gresham! We need him! This is our year! Good post Mr. Shively.
