Chad Ochocinco Fined $25,000 For Tweeting During Preseason Game

CINCINNATI - AUGUST 20: Chad Ochocinco #85 of the Cincinnati Bengals lays on the field after being injured on a play during the NFL preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Paul Brown Stadium on August 20 2010 in Cincinnati Ohio. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

During the the team's 22-9 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, Chad Ochocinco took a massive shot earlier in the game that knocked his helmet off. Just as he stood, with some help from trainers and teammates, Chad appeared to be a tad bit woozy.

Chad tweeted during the game:

"Man Im sick of getting hit like that , its the damn preseason shit! 1day I'm gone jump up and start throwing hay makers , #Tylenolplease."

Chad's pissivity level undoubtedly reached a five.

The NFL didn't much appreciate a violation of one of their social media rules. So the NFL is fining Chad Ochocinco for two violations, according to Jason La Canfora, for "possession of an electronic device and posting messages on a social media site." The fine will cost $25,000, which is basically the same as buying a happy meal at McDonalds for most of us. That's right, Chad. We love McDonalds too!

Or maybe

Chad should tell for Carson to quit throwing passes into triple coverage hanging out his receivers if they go for it… especially in preseason.

I'm sure...

That Carson went right up to Chad and said “Hey, my bad. I didn’t mean to hit you square in the 8 and 5 with the pass”. Pfft. I’m sick of Chad’s whining and poor body language. Everyone is wondering if TO is going to cause problems this year—if anyone will, it’s Chad. He needs to stop leaving his feet for every catch (while dropping most) and catch the routine balls. People need to start laying off of #9 and start holding 85 accountable. It wasn’t but 2 years ago that Chad’s jerseys were being burned in Cincinnati and a total “Chad boycott” was in effect from the fans. How quickly things change…

by Anthony Cosenza on Aug 24, 2010 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Are you serious about him leaving his feet to catch the ball?

If he stops leaving his feet to catch the ball he won’t have any catches. Palmer is throwing the ball high AGAIN causing him to leave his feet to catch the ball. I would like to see you catch the ball when Palmer hangs you out to dry by overthrowing it, and then you get lit up by a linebacker. Sorry pal but I don’t agree with anything you posted.

Don't be sorry, "buddy"

Watch some tape and get back to me about Chad. The guy makes spectacular catches at times—there’s no doubt. There are times he leaves his feet when he doesn’t need to and it leads to an interception or incompletion. The guy also CONTINUOUSLY shows up Palmer—I hate it. It’s never his fault. Carson puts the ball on the money between defenders and Chad gets mad that he doesn’t leave him room to run with the ball when there isn’t any in the first place. Chad is a great receiver on deep balls, outs and sideline patterns. He’s awful across the middle and on slants. Case in point? The ball that was put on the money at his numbers and it bounces off of his chest BEFORE he even gets touched and the ball is picked off. Then he gets all pissy at everyone except himself about the play. You mention about going up and getting hit by a LB—such is the life of a WR. If he doesn’t like it, he doesn’t have to play.

I don’t want to make it sound as if I’m ungrateful for what Chad has bought to the Bengals. He’s the best WR they’ve had, statistically speaking (I actually think in terms of pure talent that Pickens might have a slight edge), and has helped bring the Bengals back into the media spotlight. However, I also think he is a vastly overrated player. He disappears in important games (pretty much EVERY Steeler game he’s MIA) and really only dominates in games that he’s supposed to dominate in. While I think that there’s truth to his saying of “without 9, there’s no 85, and without 85 there’s no 9”, I think it’s more that Carson has made Chad than the other way around.

by Anthony Cosenza on Aug 24, 2010 6:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I dont think he was complaining about the hit simply stating that he got jacked up!

And as for the sending him across the middle that is complete asinine. What does he weigh like a buck 60. sending him across the middle is the best way to get him injured. And that pick resulted in good corner back play, by knocking the ball away from chad. Palmer hasnt hit a receiver in the numbers in a long time. He is constantly throwing the ball too low or too high. If for some reason he does hit someone in the numbers they are completely shocked b/c it rarely happens anymore. I want Palmer to go back to 05 form just as much as anybody but right now he is hanging the ball and its gonna get a wr injured.

Chad made Chad

Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of CP9. But Chad made Chad well before Carson became the starting QB in 2004. See Chad’s stats in 2002 (1,166 Yds, 5 TDs) and 2003 (1,355 Yds, 10 TDs).

Carson and chad are both mediocre, and I wish ocho would take his sideshow somewhere else. To think we could have shipped him to Washington for two 1st rounders.

Has any team EVER won a Superbowl with a clown like this as their primary receiver? Just sayin…

Chad's feeling unloved and is lashing out by tweeting

Concussion? Consession? Conclusion?

I don’t know what I’m talking about, for I am a simple cave man. But I do know that Chad done got his bell rung. IF that impacted his judgement then he should leave his durn twitter box in his locker.

What!

Adult Please! Can Chad be the professional and leave all this sensationalism for after work…..instead of during practice and especially during games. The coaches should make it mandatory that no cell phones will be permited at any team practice or games period. It irks me to think this guy is all about Chad and the distractions he creates. I fear its going to be Circus Maximus…..lets just hope not! Chad is it to much to ask for professionalism to match your physical abilities? C’mon Man be a leader by example.

I think they already did, like last year sometime when he became the sports twit.

Enter Marvin

Coach should hand out a good ass chewing. How can any team member be so self centered for the sake of being cute and disrespectful to the organization and his team mates. He should be 100% focused and not all about Chad. Conundrum.

I think the NFL, Goodell, and the fans commenting here...

are blowing this way out of proportion. He tweeted while sitting on the bench. BFD!

It’s not like he was bad mouthing anyone on his team or anything of the sort. It’s not like he was going out for a catch, and all of a sudden said, “Child Please, I need to tweet right now”.

My response to this whole thing is Big F-ing Deal!

by Oregonbengalsfan on Aug 24, 2010 4:35 PM EDT reply actions

It's against the rules.

It’s not good when someone places themself above the rules, which is something Chad has always, always, always done.

Is it a national crisis? No. Is it something that shouldn’t happen? Yes.

Im going to guess no one on here should be throwing any stones

I do drive over the limit. If I get a ticket, it's my eff up.

Rules is rules. Not saying they don’t get broken, but they’re there for a reason and if they’re enforced…c’est la vie.

by Craig Conrad on Aug 24, 2010 6:32 PM EDT up reply actions

My point exactly

Chad breaks a rule, he pays the fine, and he usually makes a joke about it. How is that any different then you paying your ticket?

by emeybee on Aug 24, 2010 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

Some of you need to relax. I can assure you that as Chad sent the tweet FROM THE SIDELINES he was fully aware that a fine would ensue. Is it necessary… no. However, as long as he is not pulling antics that are resulting in suspensions, we all need to relax.

by Wyatt Earp on Aug 24, 2010 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions

The real story..

This suspension comes on the heels of a tweet by Chad that has exposed how lax NFL drug testing is. He posted a picture of a note that informed him he was chosen for a random test and the now the NFL is taking a lot of heat.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/22/sports/football/22testing.html

Tweeting during a game is against the rules but is it work $25,000? Probably not, but now Goodell has questions to answer, and he hates questions. In the MLB they follow you around all day from the moment you are notified that you are being tested until the piss is in the cup.

by Cry on Aug 24, 2010 6:22 PM EDT reply actions

Wonder how this is going to be enforced

For instance, what if someone in the stands tweets for a player.

The player has no device yet the tweet comes from their account.

Is that also a fine?

by IllinoisBengal on Aug 24, 2010 6:26 PM EDT reply actions

see thats what i was wondering

whats from stopping him from buying his family or buddies seats behind the bench and having them do the tweets for him?

by Diesel2405 on Aug 24, 2010 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Nothing. And that's what he should be doing

Just like, what’s from stopping a drunken player from having his buddies drive him around all night barhopping? Nothing, that’s what you are supposed to be doing.

2010 - The Year of the Tiger.

by UpStateMike on Aug 24, 2010 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Right.

The NFL wants to control media access to the product. They can control the post-game media access and dictate who must talk with whom.

But tweeting opens up world that will be much harder to control. Chad has better things to focus on during a game and shouldn’t be doing it (although preseason games can get pretty long for the starters).

But he has a compatriot in the stands to tweet something on his account, how can they really control it?

by IllinoisBengal on Aug 24, 2010 6:42 PM EDT reply actions

My biggest concern...

…is this money coming out of Chad’s fine fund. If he’s already getting taxed that means less celebrations and goofing off during the season.
