Question on Stacy Andrews

Hey Guys, Eagles fan here!

Firstly, thanks for that brutal defensive slug-fest the other night that just go uglier as it got later...lol...

Anyway...

I have a question about Stacy Andrews, since you guys should know him better than I do at this point.  Last year he did somewhere between nothing and jack squat for us, and every reason (excuse) in the book was offered: he's still tentative on his knee, he's having trouble with the playbook, we run a different technique than he's used to, etc...

So, this was supposed to be the year.  2 years removed from his knee injury, a full year to learn the book, and a full healthy offseason to prepare physically.  The dude has looked so far like an immovable wall on running plays (and I don't mean that in a good way.  He's immovable: he doesn't get pushed back, but he doesn't get any push forward, you can forget the idea of him getting to the secondary, and the RB beats to the edge on every play he pulls), and against you guys he looked like a turnstile on passing plays especially when he's rushed to the inside.

My question is: what can I expect from him?  I don't need a probowler, but am I looking at a reasonable starting caliber lineman here?

My Opinion

He started in our 4-11-1 season, until the last 3 games in which we got 3 of the 4 wins. He was drafted on potential, not college performance, to replace Willie Anderson and Franchised as well, but we didn’t win in the season he was expected to be the starter. In my oppinion, Stacy Andrews’ best contribution to the Bengals is the compesatory pick to select Brandon Ghee.

+1

You generally won’t hear good words from fans on a player that leaves. I just hope he does better for you than he did for us.

That 4-11-1 season began with the o-line play. It’s very frustrating to watch your skill players when they can’t perform because of the o-line play.

Andrews was a part of the worse line we’ve had in a decade. It’s hard to point to just him as the whole line seemed to have problems starting with the center call.

Last year we turned over most of the players who were on that o-line and it’s been for the better. Some still have concerns but at least we haven’t had to watch the backup QBs play as much with this new line (the backup QB play is a current sore point with Bengals fans).

You’re not going to find many who wish Stacy Andrews were still on the team.

Well sometimes you’ll hear good things about a player that leaves if he does well for the new team and fans are going “Man I wish we’d held onto him!”. But short of that, yeah, not likely to find good reviews.

And unfortunately, Andrews likely won’t be an exception. He was pretty horrid for us that year we franchised him. Yeah UpChuck (Guichek) was even worse, but Andrews wasn’t far behind.

Now part of the reason we hate on him so much is because the team let Willie go in favor of him, and we paid for it. In spades. But frankly the guy still sucked. And I doubt he will ever get better.

here's my Andrews two cents, enjoy

The truth is a moving target.
We got this guy from a fourth round pick the St Louis Rams gave us in a trade during the 2004 draft. We had pick 24 and they had 26. Both teams needed a running back. So we flip flopped and the Rams took Steven Jackson. We got this guy you don’t remember named Chris Perry (unless you are a big UFL fan).
The team spent the next several years telling the fan base that we got the better end of the deal because ‘this freak athlete we stole in the fourth round with a free pick is going to be a beast.’ Obviously that was all Bulls@#%, but Mike Brown won’t let the truth get in the way of a good story. Stacey was a solid bench player but nowhere near franchise tag worthly. That move was a joke.

in the words of Sir Charles

“turrible…”

Stacey Andrews is an absolute joke, no he is not or ever will be a pro bowler, and no he is not a reasonable starting caliber lineman. He is a body…a supersized, unathletic waste of money/roster spot…..

it comes down to mind over matter....if you don't mind, it won't matter

Yeah, I'm getting the same gist

I think Stacy Andrews was tied into our failed experiment to get Shawn Andrews interested in football again.

Last off season we were courting Shawn hard…his back was an issue, he wasn’t sure he wanted to play, so we go out and bring in his old college teammate: Jason Peters (who I’m fine with), and who else? His big friggin brother, who doesn’t have the potential or physical ability that he does…

I really think Stacy is a big, fat, expensive experiment to keep Shawn…clearly that didn’t work out, and I hold Stacy’s $$$ against Shawn too…just more that guy cost us

no offense to you as a fan, but i still laugh when i think that the eagles were willing to pay stacey andrews that much money, especially based on his 2008 season (in which he was a human turnstile).

i'm going to go america all over your ass!

lol

no offense taken. I generally agree with and like the Eagles front office…and again, I really think that decision had much less to do with Stacy than it did Shawn…but still…he sucks, and the money we gave him…heck, even the pay cut he accepted this year is making him WAY overpaid.

Rumor has it he’s losing his starting spot already, and the season hasn’t even started

Yeah, it was a bad move by the Eagles.

But you have plenty of Bengals/Mike Brown decisions to laugh at.

i said this elsewhere: it amuses me to no end that stacey andrews left for philly to play with his brother, and his brother’s no longer on the team. eagles make plenty of great moves, but that was not one of them.

He stinks

He’s case and point that the Bengals front office doesn’t know what it’s doing. In 2005 we had one of the best offensive lines in the league. We let Steinbach walk, invested a pile of money in him while we had Levi Jones and Willie Anderson (both tackles) still under contract (he was by far the worst of the bunch) and then cut all three leaving us with a very inexperienced line. Let’s just say we should have found a way to keep Steinbach. Horrible decision making.

So everyone here is in agreement then

Stacy Andrews is a future Pro Bowler with hall of fame credentials.

The Eagles would be wise to resign him to a 10-year contract and pay him the top $$$$ of any guard in the NFL.

Somewhat, but at least Andre performed in College.

But...but

“Jelly Moobs” has turned out to be a big slug as a pro……so far. Lets hope we see improvement in Buffalo. Like the addition of Chris Rodgers and hope to see what he can do.

Agreed that he is a slug, but still he was the best RT we had last year when healthy. He just needs to be watched at all times to ensure he isn’t snacking aftermidnight.

Or eating the ceiling tiles

someone told him they were made out of Nestle Crunch bars then painted them with white frosting.

I give puddin tits one more season before I call him bust. He just might really come alive this year.
