Bengals Linebacker Rey Maualuga Tweaked A Hamstring; Listed Day-to-Day

GEORGETOWN KY - JULY 31: Rey Maualuga #58 of the Cincinnati Bengals is pictured during the Bengals training camp at Georgetown College on July 31 2010 in Georgetown Kentucky. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

Each report we hear suggests that the Bengals are hoping Rey Maualuga is ready to shift inward as an inside linebacker this season in multiple packages and formations. While Dhani Jones is expected to remain the team's starting middle linebacker, it wouldn't be a surprise much longer to see Maualuga replace Jones in certain formations and defensive packages while defensive end converted linebacker Michael Johnson shifts outward into a two-point stance as a strong-side linebacker.

However, like most of the aches and pains players receive during training camp -- an argument for shortening the preseason, training camp, etc.. -- Rey Maualuga will have to hold off on his continued development for now.

According to the Enquirer's Joe Reedy, Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga "tweaked a hamstring midway through" Monday's evening practice. He's "listed as day-to-day."

In Cincinnati We're Looking For A Playoff Berth

After years of frustrations, we still believe that the Bengals can do it under Marv. If the Bengals can pull off a successful pre-season and a good head start in September, October I think we can see the playoffs. Make some good choices during pre-season Marv. Peace.

Bummer

I know it’s not serious, but pulling a hammy can be a nagging injury. Rey needs to get work in—especially if he’s easing into the middle. It seems that he’s had a tweaked hamstring since he’s entered the NFL. He pulled it at the combine, tweaked it last training camp and now again. Isn’t that a sign of poor conditioning? I hope not. I really feel that this will be Rey’s, Rivers’ and Michael Johnson’s breakout years.
