Bengals Waive Linebacker Rashad Jeanty; Place Safety Tom Nelson on PUP
As the Bengals look to get their roster down to 75 before Tuesday afternoon's deadline, they'll have to make a decision on some of their more longer term injuries. After Sunday's movements with Antonio Bryant and Mike Windt being released and Gibril Wilson going on Injured Reserve, the Bengals just needed to make two moves.
The Bengals have made those moves.
According to Geoff Hobson, Bengals linebacker Rashad Jeanty was waived on Monday after failing a physical and Tom Nelson will start the season on PUP, allowing the team a roster exemption through the first six weeks of the regular season.
After spending 2005 (his third season) with the CFL's Edmonton team, scoring eight quarterback sacks during the season, Jeanty signed with the Bengals in 2006 and spent four years in Cincinnati. Arguably his best season, Jeanty recorded 97 tackles in 2008, ranking fourth on the team. He was Rey Maualuga's injury replacement before suffering a fractured fibula in the game's opening kickoff against the Jets in the playoffs. Jeanty was the team's leading special teams tackler with 14 last year.

I really liked Jeanty
But I guess that opens up a spot for another LB that we can develop
Youth Movement
Too many young guys who can contribute on special teams right now and could be better than him in the rotation really quickly.
jeanty had a good 2008
and 20 tackles in 2009. guessing the coaches wanted his spot for youth. they had to make a cut at lb to keep one of the young lbs.

Jeanty was very productive for us
Back in the Landon Johnson/Caleb Miller days, it seemed like he was the only LB we had that was good against the run.
Vincent Rey kind of strikes me as a Jeanty clone. I’m hoping we go with seven LBs: Rey M., Dhani, Rivers, Brandon, V. Rey, and Skuta, with MJ as both SLB and DE.
I forgot about Muck
In that case, I think it comes down to V. Rey versus Skuta. I’m not sure I buy Skuta being a lock. But Rey would be PS-eligible, whereas Skuta might not be.

If Skuta shows enough at FB he could become a FB-LB hybrid.

I always liked Jeanty
I hope Jeanty can find a new home in the NFL… just not in the ACFN.
Doesn't seem likely
Unless an injury happens somewhere. Is he really good enough to see PT in Baltimore or Pittsburgh? Personally I doubt it. Hopefully he lands on his feet. We could have used him healthy in that wild card game last year. Unfortunate about the broken leg still not healed.
8 sacks in the CFL!!!!
Your mentor, Geoff Hobson, wipes a tear from his eye.
I can't remember a single Rashad Jeanty big play
I do remember a few “Justin Smith” tackles 8 yards down the field, however. Someone fill me in.
Jeanty was vanilla
Mediocre at best

Jeanty will be back
They waived him so as not to IR him. They’ll resign him at some point if he’s available. He’s a Marvin type of player…
