Pregame Open Thread: Cincinnati Bengals vs. Dallas Cowboys

I know some of you are chomping at the bit. After all, the Bengals will play their first preseason game of the year Sunday night. Yes, yes. Even though it's a meaningless preseason game, its nice for the Bengals fans that were unable to visit Georgetown to see the rewards of their excitements that's built over the offseason. In the meantime, here's an open thread to get ready for Sunday's matchup against the Cowboys.

Year of the Tiger!

I’m pumped to watch the 2nd and 3rd stringers get out there. Let the games begin!

2 at the most.

But I want to see Jordan in there with the 1st stringers. Just to see what he can do with the 1st unit. We all know what JT O’sucky does with the 1st unit…

Their going to be playing their hearts out for that spot on the roster.

It may be a preseason game

and meaningless in terms of the win/loss columns, but with the depth that this team has and all the position battles going on, I’m really excited to see it all unfold. Haven’t been this pumped for a preseason game in………well, maybe ever. Receivers will be fun to watch, as well as the Dbacks. Sears impressed me at camp last week.

A few things...

Congratulations Dick LeBeau on your induction and your speech. True gentleman and sad that his greatest coaching achievements didn’t happen in Cincinnati. Fair dues to the Steelers by bringing their roster and showing their appreciation to a true great. Hopefully they stick around in Ohio to see the best team in the AFC North.

Outside of today’s game, it would be good to know where things stand regarding negotiations for the 2012 season and beyond with some key players. Let’s not make this a one-season tilt at greatness with a roster that can be upheld next season – Benson, JJo, Hall and Lewis contracts being resolved before the 2011 season starts would make this a generation to remember, not just a season.

And to James Walker. It must be great trying to be popular after dissing the Bengals for over a year. The records last season don’t lie and get used to brown-nosing people you disrespected for a long time.

Whatever happens, to all the serious Bengals contributors on SBNation, I wish you all the best for the forthcoming season. Let’s make use of this extra pre-season game to chisel the 53 to go all the way! Go Bengals!

kicking game

Every one knows how tough it can be to score td’s in the red zone. No one seems to be concerned with fg kicking? Who our new kicker is (and if he can consistently make it through the uprights) and pass protection are my two major concerns. If those two pan out then sure, the sky is the limit. Yeah, it was tough seeing Graham miss some critical one’s, but the fact is he is one of the most accurate in the history of the game! I hope one of these guys pan’s out. Super important piece of the puzzle!

by frickja on Aug 8, 2010 4:17 PM EDT reply actions

Is Nugent Good to Go?

I want to see plenty of both kickers. I’m concerned about the depth of kickoffs too since neither guy is known to be great at it.

preseason and waivers

The pre-season will tell us who deserves the spot and, if not, other teams only keep one fg kicker so some talent will be on the waiver wire. Not too worried.
