Daniel Coats reacts on twitter to fan's not liking him..

Danielcoats86_mediumvia assets.sbnation.com

Daniel Coats recently joined twitter. Follow him here if you're interested. A fan pointed out to Daniel that he's not liked on the boards(obviously because he can't catch) his reaction was that he was playing with torn ligaments in his ring finger.

The Fan states:

@DanielCoats86 The boards make you sound like the devil himself.. I look for the positives in players..Not every setback. StripedCrusader

Daniel replies:

@ I tore all the ligaments in my ring finger in the third game of the regular season last year. You can't blame people for not liking me they have the right to there own opinion. Thanks for the positive notes though that's how I like to see things also.

Take it how you want it. I'm just passing the word. He does later say that the thumb is doing okay now. Not that I think we'll be depending on his passing catching abilities any time soon. One can assume that he's using this as an excuse for why he had brick hands all of last year.

Seems like an excuse to me.

Coats does provide some value

he is good on special teams, and is a decent blocker. just dont throw him the damn ball

Wait!

Is it his thumb or ring finger? I guess he can’t catch his own lie either….

Dysarthria-clumsy hand syndrome

that’s my diagnosis. which is closer to the truth than anything the bengal’s medical staff told coats last season..

How about a 5th possible answer

It might be: Marvin Lewis knows a hell of a lot more about football than I do so if he wants him I want him too.

He knows more than me, but he still makes mistakes.

Coats is more of a desperation stop-gap than a real TE. Now we have healthy Coffman & Kelly, plus Gresham.

Last year we didn’t have those just. We had a John Paul Foshi and co.

I would be the first to agree that Coats is not a complete TE

He is however pretty big and a good blocker and perhaps a reasonable blocking FB given a little more time to develop. Though I kinda like Tronzo his biggest liability is that he takes up a roster spot. Coats dropped a lot of meaningful balls last year, 3 or 4 that I can think of but maybe there is some truth in the fact that an injury hampered him a bit. Is he really needed – no, but he can play the role of blocking TE and FB until we find someone better. We don’t need him with Kelly back as a TE but Fui is not in there yet. My point was that the coaches know things we don’t and as much as we like to think they are stupid ( and maybe compared to some other coaches they are) they would have let Coats go already if he was the liability we think he is and maybe he will be among the 20 or so players we cut. He is a reasonable backup as a blocker and we can use him if Kelly goes down for a game or two.

LOL. If it’s true than I feel bad for him, but you’d think they’d release that information as I’ve never heard about this injury. With this medical staff screwing the pooch constantly I wouldn’t doubt it.

I guess I’ll lighten up on him until his first catch because of butterfingers. Better make good on this chance!

If he tore a ligament, why wasn’t he on an injury report last season? Seriously, if this actually happened was the medical staff too STUPID to not figure it out? Or did he try to hide it?

Or did we not learn from Bwett and the Jets?

You couldn't catch crabs in a whore house on dollar night!

A paraplegic blind monkey would be a better tight end than you. How you are in the NFL is beyond me. If your hand was hurt than why were you playing???

Lack of TEs

Given Coffman’s injuries, the only TE on the roster would’ve been J.P Foschi.

Go back a season or 2

and coats made some really good catches. I’ll actually give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I find it interesting that the poll results

Are showing a lot of votes for people thinking it seriously explains him not catching the ball.. I don’t know if this is out of sarcasm or if people seriously feel this way.. If people feel that this explains why he wasn’t catching the ball than I would have to then question Carson’s judgment in throwing him the ball or even looking at him as a viable option. If Carson knowingly threw him the ball knowing his ring finger was basically in shreds than I would have to question that decision. Other than to avoid a sack why in the world would you aim for someone you know has a injury that prevents them from catching it?

by JamesShively on Sep 2, 2010 2:22 PM EDT reply actions

Again, lack of TEs.

It was either get it out and hope he’d catch it or take a sack. He’s out there on the field, even if his finger’s in shreds, he needs to do his part, basically.

I dunno, that is a pretty serious injury.

Colosimo's a bum

in case you don’t know, that’s the bengals doctor, He’s arogant as f*ck and doesn’t know his arse from a hole in the ground, He ruined my wifes knee, he not only didn’t fix it, he put the acl in a place it wasn’t supposed to be, needless to say 7 knee surgeries later, including a total knee replacement at age 35, So, if Dan Coats was hurt and I’m not gonna second guess him then he has the right to a second chance, all I know is until they fire his ass as a team doctor I’m not only giving up my season tickets which i did 4 years ago i also will only root half heartidly for em…..just saying

Wow.if that's not out of context I don't know what was

Daniel was asked if he played injured last year and he answered with the tweet about the finger. it wasn’t about fans hating him. it had nothing to do with fans hating him. If you do your homework instead of just doing the typical trash journalism you might know this. His reponse about fans was that he can’t help what fans think. No player can help fans from hating, but you’ve decided to turn this into something it never was.
What’s YOUR excuse? Plain hatred and LAZINESS? I know what Daniel said. I was the one who asked it.

Hey, if you know anything

Then you should know that this is a fanpost, not an article written by a professional, but a fan. And he did say something about the fans having their own opinions. I thought so.
So if you don’t like it, then write your own fanpost on your own opinion and what you meant . Just maybe you might be able to do it a little more professional and have it published in the Enquire. MR. Journalist!

by WHYUS!! on Sep 4, 2010 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmm check your twitter

That reply from Coats quoted above came directly after your tweet about the fans and the boards. Maybe it was a combined response to the tweet you sent prior asking how many games he played injured in, however it was quoted as shown.

You join the blog and come in here just because someone posted a fanpost concerning your tweets to Coats and blast them. Well Coats had more than a few dropped passes last year and there was NOTHING reported on the injury. So yeah the player is going to get blasted by fans. We didn’t know he was playing injured or if this was actually the case. By his preseason play it looks like it very well may have been because he didn’t play like that last season. He was showing ability in the preseason this year. He had none in the season last year.

Maybe instead of coming in and blasting someone because something might have been construed wrong, you should come in and add your input to clear up the confusion since you were the author of the tweets.

On another note, I am unable to even find @DanielCoats86 on twitter anymore

I know how he feels

I had a strained middle finger after watching his performance last year. I found that 10 minutes of ice after each one of his drops along with stretching exercises in between his drops seemed to help the discomfort.
