Bengals Invite WR London Crawford and WR Kole Heckendorf
I think you've picked up the theme this week: The Bengals are (have) working (worked) out several players this week, mostly linemen and receivers. Ranging from two centers in Justin Hartwig and Eric Ghiaciuc, to Dexter Jackson and Eron Riley.
However, the invitation for receivers didn't stop there.
The Bengals also worked out London Crawford and Kole Heckendorf this week.
Crawford, a former Arkansas Razorback, recorded 53 receptions for 747 yards receiving in his career. His junior year, Crawford recorded career highs in receptions (27) and yards receiving (311). This is his first year out of college football.
Heckendorf, formerly of North Dakota State, was originally signed as an undrafted college free agent by the Green Bay Packers. After being released during the preseason, the Detroit Lions signed him to their practice squad in mid-October. After being cut by the Lions in May this year, the Seattle Seahawks signed him, but releasing him in late August. Heckendorf started 42 of 43 career games, recording 178 receptions for 2,732 yards receiving and 17 touchdowns.

I'm not sure I understand all these WR workouts
The depth at WR seems pretty good. Who of Shipley, Caldwell, even Simpson are they going to replace with these scrubs off the street?
I think at this point Caldwell
could be on the way out, and Simpson has never been “in”

Maybe there is more to it than we think. Does any of this have to do with the end of the 2nd quarter sunday? I am not sure but i dont think it is.

I don't think so
You don’t replace a future hall of Famer, or potental hall of famer with guys who are Practice Squad eligible but not on a practice squad or NFL roster, you fill the final PS position with them. Or you use that spot for your back-up center who is practice squad eligible and sign a NFL center who is not PS eligible such as Hartwig. (PLease, please, please not The Distraction).
I forget where I saw it
but someone’s beat writer for a national site mentioned most teams bring in players during this week to set up their ‘emergency charts’ incase of injuries and what not. If that is the case, it probably plays into it a bit. I am surprised at all the WRs versus very few players at other positions.
