Around SBN: 7 Important Questions About The Heat Vs. Celtics Series

Larry Johnson

The Redskins just released Larry Johnson.  Would it be prudent to pursue him and bring him back as insurance for Cedric Benson?  I like Scott, but he is more of a third down/scat type of back.  Larry Johnson more adequately fits the mold of the bell-cow/grind it up the middle type of runningback Cedric Benson is - which he delivered on several occasions throughout last year when Benson was banged up or needed short periods of rest.  Since Johnson is already familiar with the playbook, he should be able to jump right in if need-be.

errr, had more to say

Don’t think we should. He couldn’t even make the Skins. He’s lost his step and we have Peerman who has looked good.

And I’m not one of the people who believes Scott can’t handle the load. I think he’d be fine and if Benson went down, I’d love to see him get that opportunity.

Yes, I considered that, too.

Money probably played a big part of whether or not to bring LJ back at the beginning, but if there was truly a strong case for him providing a significant value-add to the offense, they might have considered keeping him…even if he IS of somewhat questionable character (waitaminute…what am I saying…).

Now, LJ has been cut from Rat Face’s Has-Been-RB-By-Committee. When you can’t make it as a RB in the offense being run by the Czar of All Chop-Blocking O-Lines…who could make a cigar-store Indian into a 1,000-yard rusher…what does that say?

Sure, he knows the playbook and could step in, but like these other dudes said, we’ve got guys who already fit that description.

If he isn’t good enough for Washington, i dare say he’s not good enough for us.

I just thought I’d follow the crowd with the plusses. The comment was that great. I do like Peerman though.

This is our year!

Again, I agree. That 93 yard run vs. Colts in preseason was awesome. Yeah yeah it was preseason…but, having lived in Indy last year and hearing all that talk about the Colts blah blah blah, glad to see them get burned.

I'd be fine with LJ coming back

I also wouldn’t put all that much stock into what other teams value. Shanahan is one weird dude; who knows what goes through that guy’s head? He had a 100-yard game last year and hasn’t really been used much since. He would come at a cheap price, and would put pressure on Peerman (who I also like). The point is, there is no salary cap so it’s MB’s $$$. Peerman is still eligible for the practice squad and would be forced to play even better with a guy like LJ. Why not sign every decent player you can?

For the record: I agree he is a scumbag, but I try not to evaluate players on their personalities. I only want to know them as football players and the rest is none of my business.

There's a reason the 'Skins cut him and immediately picked up a no-name to fill his role.

He just doesn’t have it anymore.
