Observations - directly - from the game
So, being in North Carolina, I got to go see the game and being giddy as a kid in a candy store, I wanted to post my observations, though will try and circumscribe them to those which probably wouldn't have been noticed on tv.
-Dennis Roland looked larger in person than he does on tv. I have to admit I am slowly becoming a Dennis Roland fan. After keying on him for several plays, I don't believe I saw him miss a single block and he held up prettty well under pass protection. In fact, he looks like a pissed off guy who is tired of hearing criticisms and has developed a mean streak - which I like.
-Geno Atkins on the other hand looked very small on the line, though every time I keyed on him, he was pushing his offensive guard back into the pocket. Out of all the tackles, I think he has the best line surging capabilities and could very easily end up being a starter by the end of this year.
-No Andre Smith. I didn't get to see the roster, but was Andre Smith deactivated for the game? I don't believe I saw him once - not just on the field, but off it.
-Bobbie Williams looked like a pregnant turtle with a dislocated hip when I saw him running onto the field after halftime. Granted, I think he can still currently get it done, but after painfully watching him hobble across the field, it seems he may need to pass on the torch as early as next season....possibly by Andre Smith? Can we put out a BOLO for him?
-Nate Livings at one point had a very impressive guard pull in which he rolled to the right across the line and looked fast for a 330 pounder. I'd like to see some more of that.
-There were a lot of empty seats and Bengals jersies at the Panther stadium. Not sure what the actual numbers were, but it seemed like the stadium was only 2/3 full (which could have beed due to the rain) and at one point I counted 17 Bengal Jersies vs 93 Panther Jersies in my section. Made me proud... Though at the same time, in a sad way, the gloomy-looking Panther fans sort of reminded me of what I felt like for over a decade as a Bengals fan.
-I noticed Jordan Palmer at one point wearing his hat backwards. I dunno, just thought I'd point it out... Seemed a little odd for the brother of Carson Palmer.... and makes me question his intellect.
-Roy Williams seems to have a knack for anticipating where the ball is going. Watching him move around before the snap was impressive and he seemed to at least be within the vicinity of most plays.

2 things
Dennis Roland looked bad on tv. He kept getting pushed back into carson.
And because Jordan wears his hat backwards, you question his IQ? I wear my hat backwards all the time. Its a generation thing. Not a sign of intelligence or lack there of.

unless his backwards hat said..
J. Palmer future H.O.F. QB!
OH Yeah! Duffman's pelvis is thrusting in the direction of the problem!
TO: "Coach said he would address that."
Wearing a hat backwards
is like drinking a non-alchoholic beer or decaf coffee. What’s the point? And I’m 27, so I fall into the “generation”.

You do know they're basically required to wear hat's right?
So let him wear his d*** hat however he want’s.
He’s smart enough to make cell phone apps…
Dennis "Lurch" Roland
was also the reason we couldn’t get a play off before half. I’ll take you at your word that he was doing his job most of the game, but what I saw on TV was hardly impressive. However, anything is better than hearing about big time failure Andre and his rapidly growing waistline.

RE:
you have to be kidding about Roland, he was/is arguably the worst player on our offense….dude is like 6’ 9" ish and can’t pass protect at all….not sure when/what point in the game you saw him hitting all his blocks, but radio commentators were making comments such as " if Dennis Roland is the starting RT on this team, Carson Palmer either A: doesn’t play all 16 games, or B: dies on the field….
it comes down to mind over matter....if you don't mind, it won't matter
I was trying to find that stat online
Do you or anybody else happen to know a good website for individual offensive lineman stats? I found rankingw for team offensive line info, but not individuals.
I thought that I remembered that last year Roland gave up the most sacks on the line – despite playing about half as many snaps as the full time starters. I could be wrong though
This is our year!
That's a good question
I was looking for the same thing myself. Closest thing I’ve found is http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol but even this doesn’t specify individual performances. Interestingly though, according to this, as of last week, the Bengals O-line were ranked 13 overall and 4th in pass protection – and when going to the right, we are ranked as high (or low depending on how you look at it) as 2 in terms of “adjusted line yards”

RE: Roland Stats
Per the Bengals Website, has has given up 2 sacks through 2 games. Carson has been sacked 3 times this year

RE: Link didn't work, trying again
had to try and re-post the link sorry

Its in his Bio line
… where it says he’s “contributing.” I dunno about you but if every D lineman allowed 2 sacks in 3 games I think Carson would be dead.
OK.
Just did the math. If Every player on the line allowed 2 sacks in three games Carson would get sacked 53.33 times this year. Not sure what the .33 stands for. Maybe he loses a pinky?
