NFL Roster Cuts: Bengals Select Mike Nugent Over Dave Rayner; Shayne Graham Released In Baltimore

PrintWhich place kicker will the Bengals take? Dave Rayner and Mike Nugent have been battling for the top billing as the team's primary place kicker since early summer. However, the battle was somewhat ceased when Nugent suffered a groin injury early in training camp, severely limiting his contributions early in the preseason.
Nugent converted three of his four field goal attempts, including two successful 50-yard attempts. Rayner, on the other hand, converted six of eight, doubling Nugent's output, though failing to make a field goal over 50 yards. According to Joe Reedy, the Bengals have selected Nugent as their place kicker, through multiple reports.
In other place kickers news, the Baltimore Ravens released former Bengals kicker Shayne Graham.

when healthy Nuge has a stronger leg. Graham used to be more acurate. Graham is a good kicker as long as the kick is meaningless. And of course Graham is a Ginger Kid and has no soul.

I would like to take our chances with Nuge. Graham is a good kicker but hasn’t been clutch. We won’t know how clutch Nuge will be for us till he gets a chance with a game on the line
that’s true. I guess I’m basing the assumption that he can handle the pressure from his collage days. But yeah, I like Nuge over Ginger Balls.
I have high hopes
which is why my my wife says the new NEL network commercial is about me.
I'd rather take my chances with Nugent than hire Graham
to miss the kick that would have gotten us into the playoffs.
Ginger Boy made a crapload of money for many years making mostly meaningless kicks and missing a bunch of ones that were important.

Nuge is going to come up huge in the clutch, just watch. He’s feeling healthy, he’s back in Ohio, and he’s getting his redemption shot. I just can’t wait to scream NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE.
