The Ravens just signed Houshmanzadeh.  I have to agree with most of the pundits that I don't see where he fits in that offense.  He's essentially Anquan Boldin Jr.  Mason is a similar player too.  I mean, if Boldin gets hurt, it's a great move, but if not, i just don't see it.  We won't even have to keep a safety deep.  just put everyone over the middle.

That being said, I still don't like the idea of facing him twice a year.

I did see it coming

The Ravens are a team that make these deals. I didn’t necessarily want TJ back even though he would be an upgrade over Caldwell and Shipley but I definitly did not want to see him in our division. He is clutch on 3rd downs. And for a 1 year deal it may have made sense for us.

I’d like to see K Kris Brown up here if he becomes available.

TJ would have been an upgrade

over Caldwell but not Shipley. I think Shipley will do just as well if not better than TJ and without the attitude. He’s a team player.

by redberkey on Sep 6, 2010 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Did you really...

just say shipley will be better than TJ. Where are you getting this information from? how do you come up with the assumption that shipley (a rookie) will be better than TJ.

by Bm0re blackout on Sep 6, 2010 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Shipley is young with lots of potential

TJ probably has the edge right now, but as far as possesion receivers go I think the Bengals are fine. Shipley will light it up this year, but it would be difficult to imagine he would keep pace with TJ unless he hits a serious decline.

It turns out I overestimated my apathy, but not enough to matter.

#1WR: Boldin

  1. WR: Mason
    #3WR: Houshmanzadah
  2. WR: Stallworth
I love the looks of our WRs this year.

really

mason – 35
stallworth – 2005 last real season
Boldin – 2 complete seasons in his career and now 29.

housh, ok he’s solid. just a question of if he manages to burn bridges in the locker room before he gets the system in balt. 50/50 chance there.

Mason will have a buttload of pressure taken off of him. Stallworth is fast. About all you can ask for at #4 WR spot. BOldin is a monstyer, who managed to put up 1000 yard seasons as a #2 WR in Arizona. We have improved this offseason drastically.

never said you havent improved.

even the lions and bills improved in the off-season.

just stated the facts on your wr core that some ravens fans seem to want to come here and brag about. we ain’t impressed. ours are better, younger, healthier, and have done more. our dbs are better and our depth is deeper.

the ravens have a good team and the best set of wrs the ravens have had since you all stole your team from cleveland. but your wr core doesn’t beat every team in the nfl. old and fragile won’t always win games.

They will see about the Housh cancer in the locker room soon enough.

And with Boldin there, Housh will disrupt it b/c Housh is the one that will think he’s the go to guy.

I don't know

Corey Dillon was a cancer in Cincy and a Super Bowl winning team player in New England (at least for a year).

Winning cures a lot.

i know the fans here can't forgive dillion for his behavior

but the guy did suffer through one of the darkest eras in bengals history. 1997-2003. ouch those are some nightmare seasons.

And Housh was never quiet, even when they were winning.

See: 2005, 11-5 year and a playoff appearance.

Housh was still a little bitch, if my memory serves me correctly.

You WR are better!?

Come on you cant just admit your WR core isnt better than ours?

. Mason only had 20 less yards than Ocho and he is now our number two reciever.

. Boldin has been better than Owens and ocho recently.

. Or number three reciever(TJ) had more yardage than TO last year!!

.Heap>gresham.. mainly because gresham hasnt even taken a snap of the regular season.

. Shipley is a rookie, that is not proven yet.

Yea i can admit your Dbs are way better than ours but when it comes to Wrs… Come on son!
.

by Bm0re blackout on Sep 6, 2010 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Look who in the hell was throwing to TO last year..

I just don’t understand that people don’t see that TO was very productive last year with a QB that my grandmother could out perform. BTW, TO had the most 40 yard receptions in the NFL last year, along with about 900 yards receiving with the most incompetent QB in the league throwing the ball.
We’ll just see what happens to the Ratbirds this year. I think signing TJ was a bad move on the Ratbirds part, unless Boldin gets hurt. Maybe he was an insurance policy. In that case, TJ will be a disruptive force in the locker room.

by WHYUS!! on Sep 6, 2010 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions

haha

i guess you did not watch TO lasat year at all huh. He dropped balls, didnt run crisp routes like the old TO and lost a couple of steps. He actually got less than 900. I havent seen you make a case for shipley, gresham yet. Just face it our recievers are better point blank. Tj didnt have a great QB either he had better numbers than TO. He is our third reciever! Chad is not better than boldin. you guys arent better recieving wise

Boldin
Receptions 586
Receiving Yards 7,520
Receiving TDs 44

Chad
Receptions 684
Receiving Yards 9,952
Receiving TDs 62

I’d say Chad is better.

by UpStateMike on Sep 7, 2010 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Chad has played two full seasons more than Boldin. Comparing their career stats is pretty useless since Chad is 32 with 9 seasons and Anquan is 29 with only 7 seasons.

I would agree that Chad has a better career anyway, but I’d take Boldin at this point.

by BAL_Hawk on Sep 7, 2010 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh come on...

Better career and average yearly stats.. divide the stats by the number of seasons… Chad has a smaller average of catches per year, but everywhere else he is still higher… They’re production is close… but Boldin is not a No 1.

And wow, look at his fumbles/lost… besides his rookie year, these past 2 years are his worst for fumbles. Career? 16 fumbles – 7 lost in 7 years… Ocho? 7 fumbles – 4 lost in 9 years.

Boldin has played 2 full seasons out of 7, Chad has had 2 seasons out of 9 that he didn’t start all 16. (rookie year and the hated 2008).

I’ve got Chad as the better receiver all around.

by Oregonbengalsfan on Sep 7, 2010 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Dude… I said that Chad has better career numbers.

My point was that Boldin is the better receiver for this season. I still believe that he is.

by BAL_Hawk on Sep 7, 2010 6:30 PM EDT up reply actions

We'll just have to see this season

I’m just not seeing it. Especially with Mason opposite to draw coverage. Mason is good but he’s not going to draw much coverage off Boldin.

It’s going to be one hell of a week 2

by Oregonbengalsfan on Sep 7, 2010 6:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Boldin vs Chad

Boldin’s first year in your system, so by your homer logic, he’s unproven and your argument is moot. Thats why we can’t talk about how Shipley and Gresham are studs right….BY YOUR LOGIC. You guys at B-more love throwing out stats that fit your argument, but come on man

it comes down to mind over matter....if you don't mind, it won't matter

by TruWhoDey on Sep 8, 2010 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions

By my logic? What are you talking about?

I only said that I think Boldin will be the better receiver this season.

by BAL_Hawk on Sep 8, 2010 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Stallworth???

I have not figured out the facination with Donte Stallworth. The guy was a bust in New Orlenes and New England, then missed all of last year for killing a man, and now has a bum ankle. Seriously why do people keep thinking Stallworth is going to be some great weapon for the Ravens?

by DCBengalFan on Sep 6, 2010 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions

on paper it does look good

in reality, Mason or Housh will be running mouths by week 3 when they believe they could have made the winning play against Cincy but were riding the bench during the loss, when in all actuality either would have been too slow to get past Hall on the deep out pattern…to sum it up, both think they are better than they are, better hope Boldin stays healthy my friend

by joeb69 on Sep 6, 2010 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I know..

I know you are not talking about our WRs running thier mouths. Are you serious with that statement?.. Im going to leave it at that because I dont want to get into it about your recievers.

by Bm0re blackout on Sep 6, 2010 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

#2's

The ravens receiving core Is built off #2 wrs. Anquan boldin is solid but I believe there was a guy opposite of him by the name of Larry Fitzgerald who commands double teams. Plus boldin and TJ are both injury prone. Idk of Boldin will be able to draw those double teams like fitz did. There isn’t a true #1 wr in their core..you’re wr core is vastly improved but don’t throw rocks at the throne how the hell do u cover ocho TO shipley and Gresham? Carson killed the ravens with no weapons and now he has weapons…and TJ doesn’t help ur horrid secondary.. Plus who is the deep threat? Stallworth will be out 8 games..

by ak513 on Sep 7, 2010 12:26 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

ha

Anquan Boldin gained over 1300 yards when he was the number one reciever in Arizona, so lets drop the subject of we have no 1s. Easy we double ocho. TO i seriously beleive at this point of his career only needs to have safety help over the top. Otherwise a db can guard him on all short passes because he has lost step(s). shipley can be handled by a single db hes not wes welker. Gresham just has to be bracketed or if he doesnt pan out just needs to be covered. How about this how can you stop TJ from man handling Pacman? who is going to guard heap in three reciever sets? If you guys somehow find a way to guard all of our WRs , which is vey unlikely, who has Ray rice coming out of the backfield. How can you guard us?

by Bm0re blackout on Sep 7, 2010 12:16 PM EDT up reply actions

that's too funny

Wow. So the game plan is double Ocho, cover TO with a safety, and don’t worry about shipley and gresham?

I love it. Please go with that plan.

Hey didn't we do guard everybody twice last year?

Just b/c you added some help to your offense, we also added help to our defense(aka zfense). Also, we added help to our offense too. You still have the same defense, oooops! sorry, no you don’t. Your backfield is worse off than last year right now b/c you have injuries to key players. Not to mention a LB that’s a great grandfather..

by WHYUS!! on Sep 7, 2010 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions

ha ha

so how will u stop carson from shredding ur defense when he shredded you with only chad and u still had ed reed.. stop avoiding ur weaknesses.. I dare you to run TJ on fly routes lol… if Heap is so good then why did u guys draft Pitta & Dickerson? The most dangerous guys you have is rice… and i guess while u were concentrating on Ocho TO Gresham & Shipley u mustve forgot about the guy who ripped u guys for 100 yds twice..

by ak513 on Sep 7, 2010 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Aside from that TJ was a great pickup for you guys just have to see how it works..I.e. Boldin TJ.. I have to see it in action..the jets defense will be a great test
