Bengals put in a waiver claim on ex-Steeler OG Kraig Urbik
The former third-round draft pick from Wisconsin was awarded to the Buffalo Bills off waivers, but they weren't the only team that wanted him.
According to a league source with knowledge of the situation, four other teams put in claims: the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets.

Offensive guard Kraig Urbik released by the Steelers after being inactive for each game last season. The 6-foot-5, 323-pounder started 50 games for the Badgers, earning All-Big Ten Conference honors in 2007 and 2008.
Who's place would he have taken on the roster? Reggie Stephens?

Hobson seems to think Urbik would have taken Stephens' place
But I’m not so sure. Geoff keeps going on about a G/C type, but Urbik is a RG/RT. I think it says that they still aren’t confident in Smith and that Roland isn’t knocking anyone’s socks off either. I wouldn’t be surprised to pick up a veteran lineman after week 1 when they don’t have to guarantee his salary any more.
roland is sticking for the time being
b/c he works as the gimmick lineman for us. once that package stops working, the bengals will be done with him. for now, as in 2010, he’s got a job here.

No, if you claim a guy
He has to go on the active roster. If they wanted to put him on the PS they would have to waive him and he’s have to pass through waiver claims again (which obviously wouldn’t happen).
Urbik was a third round draft pick last year(ahead of Coffman). Steelers tried him at guard and center. He made the team last year, but never got in a game. As weak as the Steelers are with their OL, you have to wonder if he doesn’t have the talent or isn’t their type of lineman. There has been alot of turnover with the Steeler line.
Quick report
You didnt want him. Strong as a lineman can be, dominates weaker guys but lacks technique against stronger defensive lineman. Poor footwork and shocking against the pass. Not suitable for the AFC North and our powerhouse defenses
"I’m going to say Phillip Rivers. The first time Isacked him, I got up and did my little celebration. He started talking trash and saying, "Get back in the huddle" and woofin’. So I told myself that the next time he’d pay the price. The next time I got him, I took him on what I call the "rollercoaster." He met the ground and I stood over him. When he got up he was a little woozy. On the next play he threw the ball away before I could get him again. After I hit him that time he couldn’t say anything and I didn’t have to celebrate. I just wanted to look in his eyes and let him know that
Number 56 put him in the dirt." - Lamarr Woodley
