Because we need a Bengals-Pats thread now
What does everyone think are the biggest match-ups and most important in-game storylines this Sunday? I'll start:
1. Wes Welker vs. Cincinnati's nickel corner. This might be Pacman, but I'd like to see Leon Hall move over to cover the better receiver instead of the Pats' No. 2 wideout. Jonathan Joseph should stick with Randy Moss (as well as a safety for double coverage) b/c he's better against deep routes than Hall.
2. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick getting written off. It always makes them better, and that's bad news for us.
3. The debut of the new-look passing game. Can Carson Palmer really get back into form? How will the rookies do? New England's secondary is weak, so this might be a nice showcase.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Cincy Jungle's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Cincy Jungle's writers or editors.

Pass rush
They say that the pats pass rush is bad, so i hope carson has time to pick them apart. On the other side we need to get pressure on brady if we want to win. You know they dont like to run the ball; Therefore our our deff backs will have there work cut out for them.

Robert Geathers
He shouldn’t be on the field much, but I bet he will be.

I think Odom
Will be back to full strength soon. The guy had dropped to 250 (down from 280) and reports were that he was back up to 270 range by the Bills game.
Pressure on Brady
Has to be a priority for the Defense. Yeah, he and Welker and Moss are going to burn us at least a couple of times, they are good, but knock Brady off his high horse a couple three times and he gets flustered easy. I don’t think their O line matches up well with our D line and backers.
I sure hope the Bengals can bring their A game and not make mistakes that cost us the game.

everyone knows you arent allowed to tackle tom brady

I'm interested to see how things play out
Atkins and Michael Johnson should both be in on passing downs, especially third-and-long scenarios. Hopefully Odom’s got his weight up again and can be the same dominant guy he was at the start of last year, we really need that Odom back.
my hopes for a pass rush this season will live and die with
Michael Johnson.
Zimmer has figured out a way to get him on the field in situational downs now. One can only hope Johnson delivers on the field.

Execution
is not such a simple matter. Also, the Bengals are better at every position except QB, but that matters a lot. I really hope the defense doesn’t sleep on Brady. I don’t think they will, but we’ll see.

If they're sleeping on Brady
exactly what would they wake up for?
It turns out I overestimated my apathy, but not enough to matter.
If we give up 100+ penalty yards
We will lose this game. If not we will most likely win. We should wipe the floor with this team on paper.
Agreed.
I simply don’t see how, besides penalties, the New England defense can hold us below 34 points. I’m not seeing it.

Didnt anybody else see this?
Leon Hall was playing the slot in nickel situations for the past 3 weeks. But i havent seen anybody talk about it. maybe im nuts?
www.fantasydaddy.com
I haven't
but it makes sense. Adam Jones is doing well on the outside, and very often a slot receiver is more dangerous than the No. 2 guy. Leon Hall is a really good lock-down corner on short quick routes, so I’d love to see him stay there. It’s not a demotion, Leon! We need you on Welker/Edelman!

I just noticed
That Brian Leonard is listed as Questionable, not Out for the game Sunday. I know he is unlikely to play but the fact that it is possible makes me happy.
FWIW Leonard & Ghee
did not practice today. Atkins (knee), Caldwell (groin) and Fanene (hammy) were limited.
For the Pats, Moss was out due to (allegedly) illness. Julian Edelman (foot), Nick Kaczur (back), Laurence Maroney (thigh), and Terrence Wheatley (foot) also did not go.
Pat Kirwin picked the Bengals over GB in the Super Bowl
In regards to the Pats opener, I agree with a lot of you who believe that the Bengals need to put pass pressure on Brady as the key to victory. Not necessarily sacks, but pressure. I also like the idea of putting Hall on Welker as he is usually the check-down when Brady’s under pressure.
Belicheat has the Bengals' number
He’s 4-1 vs the Bengals.
Brady is 3-0.
Neither Carson Palmer, Terrell Owens, Ced Benson, nor Ochocinco have ever beaten a Patriots team.
It’s hard for me to feel that optimistic about this year’s opener. Last year I was more optimistic (it was at home against a not-very-well respected Broncos team)… and we saw how that turned out (ickiest bad-luck finish evah)
